2001 Buick Park Avenue
Written by: buickowner3 on Jan 10, 2012 8:26:00 AM
Our car is hesitating during shifting and when accelerating has a bogged down feel. The RPM gauge floats up and down during this. The check engine soon light is also on. My husband stopped by an auto store and they scanned it and said it gave a general catalytic converter code. Anyone have any more specific ideas on what it could be? Or does it sound like the catalytic converter needs ... Read More
The key itself for the Park Avenue does not have any visible black chips built into the neck of the key, it is just a plain key. My 2001 Regal does have such a system but is currently having no issues. All of the talk of the security system has started me to try changing to the other spare key which has hardly been used. I was thinking that perhaps the ... Read More

I'd say the odds are about 100 to 1 that the crankshaft position sensor is going out on you. It is sometimes abbreviated as a CKP sensor. This happened to my father's 2001 and another symptom it would show was the tachometer would drop to zero. I drove his 2001 for a while as I tried a couple things to diagnose it. Typically, if I was driving over 50mph when it ... Read More

Try searching this discussion for key words like paper clip or drill hole. It seems to me that people reported this problem and used a fine drill bit (manually I assume) to drill through the plastic in a place so they could use a paper clip with a bent 90 degree angle on the end to lift the needle over the peg. I don't know if that's on years as new ... Read More

I have had both aligned and new tires, front ends checked etc. I recently drove a 2003 and found that one as true as an arrow. Any ideas or comments? Did Buick have a handling/steering problem over this 5-6 ... Read More

Unfortunately I purchased my 2001 Park Avenue before I knew of this web site. I also have a vibration problem and have had my car in on several occasions. First it was the balance, then an out of round tire, then bad balance, then Buick moved the motor mounts, (now the car idles as if it needs a tune-up) and finally after a vibrating trip to Florida, new Michelins. Each time ... Read More

My wife is in sales, which has her driving quite a lot. Her 1993 ultra has delivered her safely for 189,884 miles and still going. Had the transmission rebuilt at about 160000 miles. Have had to replace alternator three times.Which I suspect is just not heavy duty enough, for all the power options. Just recently replaced the water pump and radiator. The rest has been routine maintenance.Changed oil every 3000 miles because ... Read More
