2018 Tesla Model 3
During my 3 years of ownership I have driven this car 130k miles, so I’ve spent LOTS of time in the car and on the road. Most of that driving is business related travel. This is a great car for travel, absolutely amazing. The Tesla Supercharger network is a game changer. The network is already expansive and still growing every day. When I’m on the road I simply plan my charging stops … around bio breaks or other necessary activities. My typical charging stop is 15 minutes, just enough juice to make it to my next destination with a little reserve, and just enough time to grab a coffee or check a few emails etc before getting back on the road.
The car is holding up brilliantly and I love the fact that there is very little routine maintenance. Rotate the tires every 10k miles, that’s it. I have replaced tires of course, and I replaced the 12V accessory battery (yes this car still has a 12V battery) at 80k miles. The car actually gave me a warning that my 12V was about to die. I’ve replaced many batteries in many cars, and none of them ever gave me a warning before! Around 100k miles I did have to replace the front upper control arms as they were worn and squeaking. That’s really about it. Still on original brakes b/c of regen braking. I’m guessing the brakes will last 250k miles or more. And energy cost is SO CHEAP compared to gas. My car costs b/t 3 and 4 cents a mile for electricity, depending on how much supercharging I do (supercharging is much more expensive than home charging, while many hotels will give you overnight charging for free if you stay there). That’s cheaper than a Prius! A Prius averaging 50 mpg at $3 per gallon gas costs 6 cents per mile. And let me tell you, this car is WAY more fun to drive than a Prius. :-)
Overall I am very pleased with my Tesla and fully intend to replace it with another Tesla. As well as this car is holding up I will drive it to at least 200k miles, maybe more, before replacing. Oh and the battery is doing great. There is certainly some degradation which occurs with all batteries. When new I could get 300 miles on a full charge, now I get 275 miles on a full charge. So basically 10% degradation after 130k miles. And again that’s after ALOT of supercharging compared to the average driver. Tesla has not throttled my car, I can still get 250 kW at low state of charge on a V3 Supercharger.
