I loved this car when I bought it in 2020. It's comfortable, roomy and being the Black Label, it's loaded. It has everything. Almost.
What it does not have, is a decent turning radius. I have never had more trouble pulling into a parking space, than I have with this car. My 20-year old Tahoe has a tighter turning radius than this Nautilus! Maybe it's the giant wheels that keep the … car from turning sharper, I really don't know. But, it's enough for me to want to seriously consider trading it in.
Another issue I am having is the enormous amount of overkill on "convenience" features, that really end up being annoyances. For instance, the variable speed, automatic wipers. Sometimes, there will be just a misting outside, and I turn the wipers on intermittent, but they turn on full speed and will stay on full speed for several cycles. Why can't wipers just be like they've been for the last 40 years: either full on, or intermittent on? I hate the loss of human control with simple systems such as this.
I've had a few quirky problems, too: occasionally, the transmission will make hard clunking sounds when shifting from Park into Drive. I've also had the engine and or turbos drop out, when I was accelerating normally from a stoplight. The car actually didn't go for several seconds when I depressed the accelerator pedal. Is that a sign of future problems? I can't help but think Yes.
Finally, I had a SERIOUS safety event with it late last year that scared the bageezus out of me: We were traveling on an Interstate, which was flat and dry. No cars in front of me for 1/2 mile or more. I was in the left lane, passing a tractor trailer that was in the lane to the right of me. As I was almost past the truck, the car suddenly did a panic stop from 75 mph, down to about 40 in a matter of seconds, even though there was nothing in front of me. Thank goodness, there was no one directly behind me, or there would have certainly been a MAJOR accident. My guess is, that the truck had cast a shadow into my lane as I was passing it, and the car "read" that as an obstruction. It was insanely dangerous and scary. I reported it to the NHTSA, but no one ever contacted me for any follow up, including Lincoln.
I don't know what the target age group is for this car, but as a 55 year old, I feel somewhat overwhelmed at the amount of technology that requires human involvement to either adjust something or use. On the touch screen, you have to swipe 2-3 times over, then click two more times to turn on or off the massaging seats. There are buttons on the side of the seat, but since you can't see them while you are driving, you end up hunting around to adjust them. Why not have some dedicated, tactile buttons on the center console? Conversely, the button to manually retract or extend the side view mirrors, is in a horrible location: directly in front of the driver's power window button on the door. I can't count how many times I have been driving and accidentally folded in the mirrors, instead of rolling down the window. That button should have been to the left of the steering wheel, on the dashboard, away from any other frequently-used buttons.
I haven't made a final decision on keeping this car or not, but I'm definitely on the fence. For a $55k car, that shouldn't be a choice I have to make.
Update:. I sold the car. Trouble people are apparently having with the transmission, is what pushed me over the edge. I didn't want to get stuck with an expensive repair bill. I like Ford vehicles, bit this one was a miss for me.
