Wonderful car !! I have the fully loaded Ultimate package. Only missing safety feature is lack of a 360 degree view. On a road trip with the car now. So comfy. Getting over 30 mpg on the highway. Just get a pre-purchase inspection !
Follow up after 18 months: The car has been great. Beware of the front and rear plastic bumper covers being scraped underneath when parking. I often end up … a foot or so from the concrete parking barriers.
Follow up after 30 months: (Bought used, September 2020) Sunroof leaks due to clogged front drainage tubes that cannot be seen or reached as they are under the sunroof structure for which disassembly is likely over $500.00. No dealership will touch this known design flaw and independent body shops just want to seal the roof shut. I have an artist friend who used strips of signage black vinyl (used for adverts on cars, busses, etc) to cover the roof seals. Not the prettiest but very functional and really does not look that bad unless you are close (car color looks medium-dark and the sunroof glass is a darkish grey as seen from above). I have not removed these strips but I am assured that any paint or glass marring / damage would be minimal. This has only been on for about 2-3 months so far and the car has not faced summer sunlight yet. So a good temporary fix. Some battery issues leading to recent replacement of original battery (likely from March 2016, not 2017). Wipers also replaced. No general maintenance issues.
Other issues: as with most newer cars, the body is thin aluminum and will dent / damage easily, unlike my former 1995 Q45 Infiniti which had a heavy and very strong steel body. Unlike the Q45, the G80 has many minor scratches, perhaps due to less paint coatings to lessen weight and improve MPG. Maybe due to COVID and continuing supply chain and labor shortages, parts and labor are very expensive. Insurance rates have increased greatly as well, also likely due to this. I think all of these “other” issues would be true for most any newer car. Internet offers for my used car were higher previously, so I think used G80 prices have fallen somewhat in the last 6-12 months, though still very high.
In brief, I bought a great used car to replace a great older car.
