Wanted a luxury truck for towing boats
28k update. 17 times at the dealer to get the issues resolved. Still a really good truck but jeckyl/hyde. What it does well it does really well. The shortcomings are glaring. IForceMax is outstanding power. Transmission is excellent. I have the AVS/air bags option. The AVS is disappointing… barely any difference in comfort mode than normal. Still feel bumps on bad roads. The sport+ mode is awesome for torquey acceleration in heavy traffic without gear changes. I came from 2013 Tundra SR5 5.7l with 235,000 trouble free miles still running strong with my son. I miss the growl of the 5.7l. The piped in sound is a joke. This truck moves but the sound of V6 just doesn’t cut it for me but the acceleration and torque in this truck is outstanding. I have trailer mirrors. For trailering they are outstanding and versatile, coupled with the trailering algorithms they are well designed together. However, in daily driving without trailer they are not hard to see cars in your blind spots. This truck has lots of blind spots. So lane changes are challenging. The amount of wind noise is terrible. For a vehicle with acoustic glass on the windshield and side driver windows the towing mirrors are very loud on the highway. The ride from the factory with air bag suspension was harsh. I hit the bump stops all the time making for a rough ride. I did my research and worked with the master technician and they got it dialed in now. When towing it’s a dream ride even with 9000lb trailer. Empty it’s very good but not great. I have the Toyota tonneau cover and the interior of the box lighting is fantastic. The composite box is nice but needs refinement even with the $850 sprayed in bed liner stuff slides around … a lot. I know this because I have 3 boxes of items I have to store in the bed because the center council and old storage areas are non-existent in this truck. The center council is a joke. It’s really Mickey Mouse. Cup holders are useless. None of my yetis fit, large Gatorade bottles don’t fit. The QI charging is a joke. Bad location, weak charging and I find I have to grab my phone constantly because the CarPlay interface is missing functionality. Toyota leads in safety technology but this iPhone integration sucks. It makes me a bad driver trying to grab my phone while driving and fighting to hold it with cups in the cupholders. The 22” wheels look classy but the Bridgestone tires are absolute crap tires. Piss poor grip in snow and ice, loud, rough ride and over $550 per tire to replace. What a joke. I’m moving to a Michelin non factory tire and it will cost me over $2200 to replace the [non-permissible content removed] tires from Toyota. Very disappointing. Which brings me to my last three points. The integrated trailer brake is well thought out but the hitch receiver is terrible. It’s tucked underneath the bumper making it hard to see how to get the pin inserted and pinned. Every time I have to install the hitch my knuckles scrape the sharp plastic and cut my hands. When the pin is installed and pinned you can’t get the safety chains installed without screwing around. Getting the pin out is an effort of pain. They have it tucked so far up you cannot get it out without tearing your knuckles up and swearing about the stupid engineer who designed this joke. For a truck that pulls incredibly well, this is 101 stuff. Any of you engineers actually use this screw up? Item #2 nanny controls, I went from a 2013 truck that had crude antilock brake and stability control to this tour de force. In my 2013 I knew when the truck was at its limits. The antilock brakes growled and the stability control took away throttle. In this capstone there is no communication at the edge. It’s rock solid until it’s not. I have gone into curves way too fast because the truck just feels so tight until it’s not. At the edge it is a flipping hand full like a dead fish. It will take a lot of miles to know when it’s close to chaos. The many control is just insane. Constant flashes of sensors alarms, and beeps and dings, and lights flashing on the screen it’s overwhelming and dangerous. You go from great safety to I wish I never got rid of my 2013. When hooking up a trailer it’s a joke. If the driver door is open it will not go forward or in reverse. The parking brakes locks and the truck will not move and there are 1000 lights and alarms and displays. Cmon Toyota, you went out of your way to make this a tow truck and you can’t convince the nanny police to turn off all safety BS? Backing out of my garage or driving into it is the sound of music. All those sensors dinging and beeping drives me insane. You can’t turn them off fast enough. At least the camera system is very good. You at least know why all of dinging beeping and audio warnings are going off. This 3rd gen is much better than the 2nd gen however this 3rd gen was rushed to market and it shows in quality and annoyance. It’s like the truck is 80% designed and the last 20% of integration and refinement was stopped. The Tundra design team was understaffed when it came to real world

No longer a real truck
There's no skid plate, there are no tow points or tie down locations on the front of the truck, the dbl cab is WAY too small but my crewmax is WAY too big. For 40yrs the beds have been 6" too small to carry anything you need a truck for lumber and dirt bikes must have the gate down. Why have a gate if it's not there to keep things in? Half of the features are expensive and useless. The real reason for the chip shortage is that it uses 20 times too many chips to do things like open the tailgate or dim the headlights. My SR5 has radar, blind spot sensors and wants to be added to my wireless carriers family plan. Don't need a heated wheel or blind spot monitors. I need a clear view of what's in front of me and next to me. They made the hood impossible to see over and you still can't see when you're turning at night. I know Toyota will sell me a bunch of expensive cameras but eyesight is free. The shape of the hood acts like a parabolic solar reflector that is blinding in the afternoon. I cant find a position for my head where it's not blinding me. I've never seen anything like this before. All of the practical, utilitarian and sturdy features are gone. Now I have a computer to keep my "off road" vehicle on the road. How much did I pay for that? Where are the mud flaps? For the first time I feel stupid for trading my old tundra for this one. Some features make no sense at all. I can drop my tailgate with a button on my key fop. If my finger is free, i can just as easily push the button on the tailgate. I can roll tthe windows down from California, using my phone. Why? Id rather roll the windows up if it starts raining and i cant get there quickly. It cant do THAT. How much did i pay for that crap? For $60000. Without a skid plate and only one key. Time will tell if I like the composite bed and paper thin body panels but I'd rather boost gas mileage much more using simple bulletproof lockout hubs. Every model year seems to have taken my beloved legendary Tundra further away from being an actual truck. No excuse to have skipped a skid plate, tow points and mud flaps. Toyota should be embarrassed for that. I'm embarrassed I didn't look before buying. I've built Toyota trucks from ground up. Axles, suspension, frame, transmission, engine(s), body... the older trucks were amazing. The brand loyalty i developed over the last 40yrs got the best of me.

MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT
I had been a Toyota fan since a teenager and I owned about 30 Toyotas in my lifespan. My review and comments are very honest. In less than a year I owned a 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra 1794 edition. They are a beautiful trucks but plagued with issues. On my 2023, I had to take it to the dealer about 7 times in 11 months, I had multiple issues with a steering vibration, they replaced the steering column, the issue went away for a week and it came back. The biggest disappointment, I call Toyota customer service and they didn’t care about the issues. I gave up and decided to trade it in for a 2024 Tundra 1794, problems started to happen 3 weeks after I bought it. I had check engine light came on, issues with the suspension and now major issues with the BRAKES. It is a major embarrassment to be driving a brand new top of the line Tundra with NOISY BRAKES. Toyota is well aware about it and have thousands of Tundra owners with the same issue. I am on a waiting list for the parts and have to drive the truck with NOISY BRAKES, I only have 1700 miles on the truck and looking to file a lawsuit to Toyota. DON’T buy a 2924 TUNDRA, it is beautiful inside but FULL OF ISSUES.

NOT a work truck
1. Parking sensors make it so you can't back up to a curb if a toolbox is sitting on the curb. Attempted to back up to a dumpster and the truck won't let me get with in 6 feet. Had to turn off the parking sensors so I can throw away trash. 2. The plastic that holds the rear license plate captures anything and everything that goes between the bed and tailgate when you close the tailgate. 3. Can't step on rear bumper end caps to get into the bed of the truck. They are too small to step on, and snap off like a lego brick. Not sure if I broke it or not. 4. Adaptive cruise control gets blocked by any amount of snow. This disables the cruise control, so you can't use cruise control if it snows. You will have to pull off the road and clear the sensor. Then, as the covered sensor alarms you in the display. BUT!!, it never goes away. So you can't use the speedometer screen because the cruise control warning won't go away. 5. Boost lag or bad transmission. It is frustrating pressing on the accelerator and nothing happens, then, it decides to engage and you take of like an un-prepared missile. Legitimately don't know if transmission is damaged or if there is something wrong with the throttle assembly. If you're coasting at 30 mph, and try to accelerate. It will tach up to 4,000 rpm, then take off like you just dropped the clutch. Either way, it effing sucks. 6.BEEPING. Do you like beeping. It beeps when you close the door, It beeps when you close the door with the engine on, it beeps when a car drives by in your blind spot while you're parked. It beeps if you try to back up with the parking sensors on. It has more warnings than anyone can tolerate. 7. Can't drive with the door open. Sometimes I open the door to look for obstructions while I back up or drive on work sites. Well, the truck will slam on the brakes, and start beeping frantically. Then you have to shift back into park, and close the door before you can drive again. 8. It's 2024 and this thing gets 17 mpg. Criminal. 9. Perforated Seats. Here's a fun game. Spill something on perforated seats and try to wipe it up. Ha ha, loser, it soaks through the perforations and there is nothing you can do. 10. Door locks. So if you're the passenger sitting up front, you can unlock ALL the doors by simply putting your hand on the handle sensor. But, not true for the drivers side. It only unlocks the driver side!!!! That is the default setting. The person without the keys can unlock all the doors, but the driver can not. I have programmed it so the Drivers side will do this, but it resets after you drive it once. 11. Gremlins. This vehicle has a ton of them. The HVAC system shut down on my the other day. Body vents wouldn't work, only feet and defrost. System wouldn't come on at all until I drove a few hundred yards. I scheduled to have it fixed....and its working again. Can't wait til the entire instrument cluster dies when its out of warranty. 12. I hate this truck with a passion. AND, I'm a Toyota Fan Boy. Glad the company wasted their money before I got into one of these toads. It's frustrating to drive with the acceleration delay. Then youre mocked constantly with BEEPING.

1000 k in Platinum non-hybrid
Will be going back to dealer to have side trim removed or replaced as it popped off partially after a carwash. The trim honestly looks like an after thought. This morning had a leak from the sunroof onto the drivers side grab bar. Fuel economy is good at 13.8 per 100km. Compared to my 4 runner definitely not built with the same quality team. For $90,000 Canadian I expect better.
