Would buy again!
I bought this car in Spring of 2001. It had almost 45,000 mles and came loaded. While it was a little more than I wanted to spend at the time due to all of the extras it has been worth every penny! It has had one "expensive" repair (fuse block) and an exhaust repair; it is now in need of a new rear main oil pan repair as gasket is completely worn away. It has been a great car and I will probably shell out the bucks for this repair. It now has over 150,000 miles on it and I am currently getting 30-34 mpg! It has been the best and most reliable car I have owned. Twin cam engine is a plus also
I'll never purchase another Saturn
My Saturn SL2 has had many problems over the 4 years that I have owned it. It has stranded me 2 times, luckily in safe neighborhoods. The plastic parts on the interior and exterior are eaisly broken (dome light has broken twice, misc lights on car have fallen out due to broken plastic, knobs, consoles, dash, etc have all broken). The A/C has broken 3 times, all for different reasons. All 4 power windows have broken at different times. The Saturn dealerships are just like any other when it comes to repairs: you bought it, now its your problem, not ours. On the other hand, I've owned several foreign vehicles and had very few problems.
1st time Saturn owner
I bought this car with just under 36k on it. It currently has around 58k. It has run flawlessly! I made sure I got the 5 spd because a friend who also owns a SL1 has the auto and recommended getting the 5 speed (more power, better mpg). I've averaged 36-37 mpg, and had as high as 42 mpg on straight freeway driving. I have only a couple of minor complaints: cheap interior materials, low (and somewhat uncomfortable) seats, and notchy shifter (especially first gear). The engine does use a little oil between changes, but the previous owner told me about it - not a big deal. Overall, I would definately recommend the car; it was a good buy at the used- car price.
I wish I never bought a Saturn
This has been the worst car I have ever bought. It has had on problem after another.
Stay Away from SC1's! ! !
I bought my car around Feb. '01 because it was sporty looking. I wanted to get rid of it by that summer. Good gas mileage, terrible get up & go, uncomfortable, and depressing resale value for the options on it. Around 55,000 miles I had to have $1300 worth of work done to it (none of with was my fault). I will never ever buy another Saturn in my life.
