Couldn't buy this car from me.
This is by far the best and most fun car Ive driven. I've added K&N air intake and flowmaster exhaust, tinted the windows extremely dark, and added chrome rims and performance tires. Just added a top notch sound system, replaced everything, and I couldn't be happier with the car. It may have a TMV of $2300, or whatever, but there is no way I'd sell it for triple that. I would drive this car every mile for the rest of my life if I could, unfortunately there is no car that lasts that long.
watch out
be careful of this car. i had a blown moter at 70000 miles. it was nothing i did to it, it was a mechanical defect. it is the most expensive car i've ever had to fix. a distributer cap on other cares cost between 10 or 20 dollars, on this car it costs over 300, and you have to take the water pump off to change it. would not recommend car, for the amount of money you will spend in repairs, you could own a lexus

fun but expensive
We bought our 94 in may of 05,its fast and alot of fun,but it broke down in july o5 and was very expensive to fix,the distributor cap and rotor are behind the waterpump and unless your a mechanic you need one to fix it. Other than that we love it and looking for lots of fun to come its a very fun car to drive whoa pony!Fast fast fast.
Nickel and Dimed
The car is overall a nice car for its time. However owning one today for me is very costly. I have more money in repairs than what the car is worth or what I paid for it and the car has under 60,000 miles. Maybe some last longer, but mine has been giving me grief ever since I owned it. Right now it is messed up and nobody has been able to figure out why. I'm tired of repairing things, and think I'm going to just sell it for a loss. I advise you to look into the reliability of these cars before purchasing. Some can last a long time, but mine has been horrible. I got to know a few mechanics well unfortunately.
Hope yours is more reliable!
Save $$ for future problems. I thought I had the cream of the crop... 94 Formula 25,000 miles on it. I thought, hmmm, low miles, must be reliable. Silly me, I should've known better. List or problems I had/have: Optispark(distributor)$400, Radiator $220, Waterpump $200, Radiator hoses $50, coolant sensor $50, o2 sensors $75, new batterie $50, countless hours of frustration and time to find and fix aallll the problems, $priceless! Not to mention electrical gremlins with the taillights and ABS unit, rear hatch and headlight motor and so on... I do keep up maintenance on it religiously.
this car rocks!!!!!
I've had a 75 trans am,a 72 z-28,a 74 cuda;built, countless other cars but overall this is the fastest, smoothest, fun to drive car I've ever owned. It's the next best thrill to ridin' my Harley.
Great car
Bought the car 5 years ago with 50k miles. Now has 120k. No major problems during that time - just a bad alternator and a water pump that I replaced. The only real maintenance I've done is change the oil every 5k miles with mobil1 synthetic. The clutch feels like it's finally wearing out and I'll probably need to replace it soon. The 3.4L v6 (160hp) isn't exactly fast, but isn't slow either. Seems just as fast as when I first drove it. Great car and seems like it will last up to 200k miles with no real problems. Gets gas mileage around 19mpg city and 30mpg on long trips.
Still rollin'
Ordered this car from the assembly line, waited 5 months for it. It was worth the wait. Fun, quick, and easy to look at, I still get compliments. Cheap plastic interior panels were tastefully designed. Minor interior improvements needed to improve overall functionality. Some vibration noise. Exterior is aggressive enough to intimidate other sports cars, yet refined enough to drive take to diner. Water pump sprung a leak at 80K. No other service required. I love this car! Don't ever want to sell.
Been a good car
I have owned my car for about 4 years now. So far I have added a lot of mods to make it faster and the LT1 responds very well to simple bolt ons. This car is a lot of fun to drive but can be dangerous in the rain. I would suggest you learn how to do all the repairs yourself if you intend to buy one of these cars since I consider the majority of shops to be scam artists. Self Destruct
I loved the car in the beginning but now, at just over 60,000 miles I've had to replace the transmission AND the rear-end, and the problems may not be over yet (Pontiac has had the car for 2 wks now). No car should experience such serious issues with so few miles. It looks great, but like the Fiero (which I also owned) I consider it a lemon.
An awesome car!!
I have been driving my firebird since I purchased it in May 1996. It now has 178,000 miles and is STILL going strong. This car has never broken down on me. It is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven. While my friends have cars for 2 months and they break down, my has never failed me. The interior is perfect for short people like myself (5'4)-you never have to take your eyes off the road to change the radio station/air controls. Best of all, my firebird now gets 28 miles to the gallon!!! Fantastic car!! I am looking for another one to buy!!
Who'dve Thunk It?
I have owned this car for quite a while now. I have 164,000 miles on the original engine. Although repairs on this car are pricy, I haven't experienced many at all. I had to have the catalytic converter changed ($1,100) and the muffler. I put a flowmaster on it which really makes it sound awesome. My 5.7L V8 will still kick you back into the seat if you step on it, and delivers about 23 mpg.
Buy a newer one
There are problems with tyhem & things are expensive in mechanical area
The Fun Is Back
Mid 30's male enjoying a "re-birth" of sorts. This car is nice looking (at least in my eyes) not too flashy and a heck of a good time to drive.
AWSOME CAR
THE EST CAR EVER EASY TO HANDLE LOOKS GREAT OK FEUL ECONOMY GIVE IT A THUMBS UP :)!
Love our 25th Anniversary Trans Am
Great car. Always fun to drive. Bought new for my wife - she loved it (but said it took a while to get used to all the looks from others). Very dependable. Surprises others that it does so well in snow. Almost 15 years old and it still attracts "The Look" from people. My son might die if we ever sold it.
Great Car.
Well, I was starting college and had saved up enough for a used car. Unlike all my friends, I was particular to the muscle car movement, so I looked for something with a V8 and RWD. I found my car which had some defects but was in pretty great shape for the price and age. I love driving it and have never been happier with a car. I love driving it and listen to the exhaust, "rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, ROAAAAAR!"
Limey Alert!
Cor blimey Mary Poppins...you yanks know how to build 'em huh?! Brought the car earlier in the year ready for a nice hot summer here in London (?!) and it's the most awesome car I've owened. Handles like a dream down the winding english lanes and looks a stunner too. Just one thing...a slow electric window motor..but I'll get round to looking at it soon!
firebird v8
a factory hotrod lots of power and decent handling.very fun to drive.the gas mileage is not to bad,but you dont buy these kind of cars for that.
Dont get the engine wet!!!!
I luv the car except for all the irritating electrical bugs. First, dont ever get the engine wet, the distributer is $800 to replace. bad design by GM. I got a Cobra now and like it better (not in the shop as much)
My 4th and the best
I've always had the 6 cyl. Now the v-8 brings the raw excitement they lacked. Classic style will leave the future enthusiasts awing.
A great car!
The Firebird I have has never give me any trouble. However I recently reached the 112,000 mile mark... and it is in the shop. It ran good for 112K miles!
firebird
great car, only had a few problems with it, but nothing to complain about with a 10 year old car. I can throw it around beat it up and it will still run like a charm. Only problem is that it eats gas, but the tourq will throw you in the back of your seat
MUSCLE CAR
I bought this car w/ 18k miles in 1997, as of spring 2004 61k miles. I've replaced an alternator, battery, and driver side power window motor, and of course routine maintenance. otherwise, reliable, great runner, lots of fum
good car
i bought the car used it now has 171000 mile on the car and it still looks and run excellent
I Own One, Trust me!
On a damp Rd I excelerated only a little bit & car lost traction.I WAS careful-still happened.Massive body damage-very small collision. Its nearly impossible to clean under & around seats & any inevitable spills into gear shifter that the design of car provokes.
My Bluebird runs perfect!
I've had my car for about 11 mos now and the only problem that occurred was the thermostat needed replacing along with the water pump. (If your car overheats try troubleshooting those first.) The car could use better gas mileage, but whatever. I love it and will most likely be the owner of a firebird, trans am, or formula for a while...
BIG POWER BUT NOT ALL THAT RELIABLE
GRAET BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. HAS ALL THE POWER YOU NEED. RELIABLITY IS A HUGH CONCERN. A LOT OF THINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. CAR HAS 96K LOOKS LIKE NEW BUT THINGS JUST SEEM TO KEEP GOING BAD. BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING, MANY OF THE V 8 HAVE HUGE LABOR COST, AND INSURANCE IS NOT A PLUS.
My Personal Batmobile
I have owned my Firebird Trans Am GT for 13 years. Powerful, fun and more power than I should have. Doesn't fit in with transporting kids, though I used to have the childcare seat in the backseat. Few repairs (muffler, radiator) and great value. The 8 cyl 5.7L will spin out still on too strong an acceleration while on a curve or a curve with wet road while punching it. Nothing beats the sound of the engine idling. Low gas mileage, but better than my GMC Envoy. Point of nose is so far forward and out of driver's vision that it is forever getting dinged and dented. Wider than one would expect.
American Muscle- Get one today!
These cars (Fbodys) are the best bang for your buck on the market, period! 94-97 Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am are great buys being anywhere from $3000- $7000 based on condition and mileage. 285hp 315ft lbs of torque and gets 25+ MPG on the highway. What more could you ask for?!?! Easily modified to reach 350+ HP reliably. Very few mechanical issues. As with any used car look for service and maintenence records to see how it was cared for.
T A GT!
I bought it new in November, 1993. I love the go power off the line. Love the way it handles. 131,000 miles and going strong. Will never sell it!

Beware the optispark
A REALLY FUN OLD SCHOOL CAR TO DRIVE. Not the all wheel drive traction control BS. You have to know how to drive to have fun with these cars or you'll end up in the ditch. The convertible is a head turner especially with some aftermarket pipes. Fit/finish and minor nagging GM quality control issues can be expected. It is still a cool car and not my main ride so i tinker with it. The distributor caused me alot of grief and i would not recommend buying aftermarket or remanufactured optispark for the v8. Spend the money and get an MSD or Summit. I had to put four in from the corner parts stores before I wised up. I can now change one in about two hours.. The problem is they are located behind the water pump and such a delicate device cannot be subjected to a leaking water pump, dirt and heat.. Also the ozone from the electric spark deteriorates the unit. I dont know if GM ever ever rectified this on their replacements or gave up.

Fast, fun, but NOT an everyday driver
It's a poor man's Corvette! The LT1 engine is marvelous, it makes a ton of torque (325 ft/lbs) and is a joy to drive. I don't put many miles on mine (<4000/yr), but it seems to be holding up fairly well. As is typical for GM cars, body fit is terrible. The driver's side window won't roll up all the way with the door open. This is on a garaged and pampered car! There's been a loud clunk in the rear since day one, can't find it, but it's persisted.
Trans Am GT
This is without a doubt the best car to buy for the money. It's fast, fun, and reliable. I can't believe that they stopped making them.
298,000 ORIGINAL MILES!!!!!
I bought my Firebird new. I chose the Firebird because my parents had a 1967 Firebird 400 convertible. I had an '87 in "speeding ticket red" but wanted the dual airbags for safety. I purchased the 6 cylinder because I didn't want the tickets with an 8 that I knew I would get. The paint color was a small chip at the dealer's showroom. It wasn't true to the color and the chip looked like a smoky blue. When the dealer got the car, they detailed and picked me up. I saw it coming down the street and was floored because it was, and is, a beautiful bright blue! Within the first week of owning the car, I had the wheels chromed, replaced the tires with wider low profile tires, tinted the windows and replaced the entire stereo system with 8 speakers, equalizer, new deck and power amp to run it all. So now it's 23 years later, I am still in love with my "Bluebird" and it now has 298,001 miles!! Runs like new, NO JOKE! I am amazed, TRULY!! I attribute the longevity to my maintenance schedule and I don't run it hard except when necessary. Doesn't like snow much but has always stopped in snow and ice when needed.
