Used 2005 Nissan Pathfinder Consumer Reviews
xmas2004
This is my third Pathfinder. I leased two and purchase this new one! Love the reliability of this product. I like the larger size...more powerful engine.

Nissan Pathfinder - Red, Grey leather!!!
This is a great car. It's definitly bigger than previous pathfinders and the design of the car is definitly different and better looking. My 2005 Pathfinder is red with the grey leather interior and it looks fabulous! It also drives great and handles very well.
Transmission Issues...
I to have a 2005 Pathfinder and like the other reviews on this site, I have had the same problems. The transmission is slipping and I just had to have a major repair with the coolant and fliud mixing together. There were no signs of this and suddenly while driving on the highway my car overheated. I also have the vibration of the car at certain speeds. It's awful that Nissan will not admit to the issue and resolve it. I have been telling Nissan (Meadowlands) about the vibrations since I purchased the vehicle and they just think its me. My mechanic indicated that he has never seen this happen. He couldn't believe that there were no warning signs either.
Fast in its class
I purchased my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 1/2005 just last week I noticed a rust at the back door panel which i called the dealership and scheduled for an appointment. They should make the cabin more quiter, everytime you step on the gas pedal you can hear the roar of the engine but overall i like it got lots of power .
I think Nissan will sell a lot of these
I have had my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder for about a month now. It came with the Comfort, Premium, and DVD packages. Initially, I wasn't totally sold on the Comfort and Premium packages, but now am glad I went with them. They add very nice features. So far I love the way this truck drives. The kids love the third row, the DVD player, and the ability to see out the windows.
For young and old alike
After checking other reviews and comparing SUVs I test drove the Pathfinder. I was hooked. It is comfortable and roomy enough for my 6'5" son. It has good pick-up, drives quiet and feels solid and safe. I haven't used the third row seats yet but they are there if I need them. The DVD keeps the grandkids happy on long drives. My daughter bought a 2001 new and I always liked it. People that have ridden in the back seat say it is comfortable. It drives like a dream and is comfortable seating for long drives. I plan on keeping it for many years.
Initial Quality Disappointments
I went from an '02 Pathfinder to a new '05. I love the styling, the interior improvements, the performance and even the gas mileage (15-20mpg). I'm extremely disappointed, however,in initial quality. It first started with a rattle somewhere in the dashboard which I have finally located. Then another spring like rattle under the dash which to date I've been unable to find. About one week after taking delivery, a loud whine from underneath the hood developed. Sounded like a loose belt or even a bad waterpump. I finally called the dealer today to get the car in for all these nagging problems and it will be about 10 days before they can look at it. Hopefully the bugs can be knocked out!
Excellent SUV
This is my second pathfinder from Nissan. I have it with dvd and navigation. The 2005 is just amazing. The power is great and the 4wd capabilities are excellent. The third row is mainly for kids but is great to have. If you dont need it, you can fold it down for alot of trunk space with ease. The fuel economy is a little low but what do you expect from a big truck like this. The bose and navigation system are just beautiful. Overall I am truely enjoyed this pathfinder.
Love it
We have had the Pathfinder for about 10 days now and have already put 1200 miles on it. We looked at the Highlander and Pilot but liked the Pathfinder best. It offered more features for less. We got everything but the DVD and Nav system. So far so good. Averaging 20 mpg so far as we mostly drive hwy.
One mean machine
Outstanding vehicle. I am amazed by its overall power. Can hold its own against several V8's. A real monster of the road.
Good Vehicle
Bought in 06 used with 20k. Did have a sending unit problem causing engine light to come on at 50k. Bought one online for $80 and spent 2 hours by myself swapping it out. Not to hard to do. And also was not painted very well in the gap between the front pillars and fenders. Found that out at high press car wash, used touch up and can't tell anymore. Other than those two problems I am pleased with her, lots of power, not bad in the dirt or mud and I don't baby it. Rides good on highway and handles a trailer well. Was looking at Trailblazer's but Pathys have better reliability and much better crash ratings. Important to me when it's the wife's car and she's always hauling my 2 girls.
First month
Our family bought a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder for the new 7 seating arrangement. We compared it to the Toyota 4Runner and the Honda Pilot. The 4Runner's rear seat hang in suspension can hamper the full use of the cargo area. The Pilot had no room at all in the cargo area if the rear seats are in use. For the money, about $7,000 less, the Pathfinder was a great value. The crossbars can only be used in preselected slots which I didn't like, but it's a small detail. Also it doesn't have daytime running lights. My overall review is great.
Love My Pathfinder
Love the style of the new Pathfinder, it is definitely different then the old style. when was looking for an SUV, I was looking for a 7 passenger SUV, Pathfinder is the only mid-size SUV that I know that comes standard with seating for 7 people. Although have only had it a short time, I cant wait to put it on the road for a long road trip.
BestMidSuv
9 weeks and 3,000 miles after my purchase I am still of the opinion that this is the best mid-size SUV on the market. I was a lifetime Toyota man, but Nissan has out-designed and out- engineered Toyota on this one. Outstanding performance and build quality. I commute 54 miles RT daily and I actually look forward to my drive time. The vehicle has a smooth drive on the highway with excellent power (watch your speed). I have 4 kids (age 11 and under)and they fit comfortably in the second and third-row seats - they love this vehicle (the DVD location is very convenient). I average 17 mpg on my commute, but get 21 mpg driving to our cabin.
Watch out Toyota 4 Runner
Well we test drove the Toyota 4Runner berore the Nissan Pathfinder and it seems like Toyota is stuck in a time warp compared to the new Pathfinder. The Pathfiner is all over the new styles for the interior and exteriior. The off road package is the way to go with leather. Also, to get a great deal, go through COSTCO auto services. I was able to take a couple grand off the sticker.
Awesome SUV!!!
I researced purchasing an SUV for about 9 mo. I could not find a vehicle out there that fit my needs and budget wrapped into one until I stumbled onto the new pathfinder. What an awesome vehicle!! Great styling, engine power, lots of standard features. This is my first Japanese purchase. I tried to give my business to one of the big three, but I could not find a Durango, Explorer or Envoy that came close to price and value offered by Nissan.
Great SUV
The ride and increased power are fantastic. Big improvement over the 2002 Le Pathfinder I still own. I have owned 5 Nissan autos during my lifetime and the quality has been great.
Very pleased
I traded in an Infiniti G35 Coupe since I needed more passenger room. My Pathfinder actually accelerates better! I considered the Infiniti FX35, but the Pathfinder is such a better value. The sound system is incredible (love the MP3 playback), and the navigation system is easy to use. Almost immediately had a problem with a loud noise in the rear A/C -- dealer found loose insulation. New model... these things happen. Highly recommended!
Nice SUV
Lease return bought from a friend at buy out for 17730 what a great deal. 88000 km. extended warranty to 120000 km and 2 more years. Fuel sending unit screwed, replaced for free under extended warranty. Great service so far from Nissan. Super fun drive, way nicer than my 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon. Poor MPG a little better than the jeep. Way more power than the jeep but jeep better off road. No trani problems but will keep a eye on it with their still being extended warranty.
'05 Nissan Pathfinder LE
The tire pressure monitor light has come on a couple of times in my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, but Nissan asures me that it is becuse of the change in the weather and not to worry. The vehicle handles well and is a pleasure to take on short drives or long trips. We drove the Ford Freestyle and the Honda Pilot and the Pathfinder just kicked their butts.
Great SUV!!
I have only had my Pathfinder for 2 weeks now but it has turned out to be a very nice SUV. My wife and I purchased an SE with the comfort and premium packages and we are happy with both. I wanted the BOSE stereo and she wanted the sunroof. We have a 20 months old now and another on the way so we have to get something bigger. The engine pulls very strong and handles well for such a heavy vehicle. We looked at the Honda Pilot and the 4 Runner and we liked the look of the Nissan the best. The Honda did come with more standard saftely features though. Nissan was also ready to deal and we got the vehicle at invoice. I am only getting 16 mpg at the moment though.
Excellent SUV.
I evaluated all of the midsized SUV's and found that the Pathfinder was the best vehicle for the money. I love the ride, comfort, and feel of the truck. The controls are ergonomically correct for me. The handling is solid, and fit and finish is impeccable. Was treated well by the dealership. The tailorability of the seat and foot controls was one of the most important features of the vehicle for me. This truck is smooth, powerful, and stylish. I would recommend the Pathfinder to anyone.
2005 Pathfinder SE - Multiple Issues
Bought it in 2008 with 32K on it, now have 89K and have been a member of every recall Nissan has issued and then some. First was the A/C console had to be replaced; fuel sending unit failed at 70K, ECM was replaced under recall at 85K. Now with 89K, the oil sending unit has failed and the torque converter inside the transmission is shot. It's at Nissan getting a BRAND NEW TRANNY from Japan at the toon of $4300 and low and behold, that brand new transmission is defective as well. Leaking fluid. Its Brand NEW and still has issues. 4-6 weeks before I get a replacement. Nothing but problems. Don't ever buy one of these vehicles. Selling it next year. Would rather walk instead LOL
Love at first sight and now I'm in love!
A family w/ 1 teenager and 2 elementary graders who love road trips as a family tradition. Ever since we bought her new 3 years ago, we haven't had any problem at all. She took us coast to coast yearly and most of the time, driving for 8-18 hrs straight except gas, snacks or nap were a great plus. We chose her because of safety feature for our 2 kids in 3rd row seat. In addition, it has 2 pairs of A/C or heater exhaust vent (standard) each row on top of the headboard with dual automatic climate control-great for summer or winter time. Of all the SUVs we drove, she is the only SUV that picks up speed and power from 0-60mph. We know this and we had really fun!
Happy so far
We bought our Pathfinder after researching numerous other SUV's when the transmission in our '02 Explorer went. I loved the appearance of the PF and after a couple test drives and reading a number of reviews here, felt it best fit our needs. I get about 17.5 MPG on a mix of road and highway and just took a 300 mile road trip to upstate Vermont on 3/4 of a tank using mid-grade. Lots of power and you definitely feel it when you hit the gas. My wife likes to drive it so much more than the Explorer and she says that she feels our 1 year old is that much safer in it. Third row seating is really tough to get in and out of, but we use it so rarely, it's not an issue for us.
My Six Machine
I bought my pathfinder used, and instantly loved it! It drove me all over the west coast mountain ranges to every family members house. It was comfortable to be in for long drives. It also did awesome on daily drives up and down a super windy curvy 20 mile highway to and from work. Never felt like a corner was too much for it. (Never felt top heavy). Could pack it full of stuff for camping and shopping at Costco. I never had any mechanical issues. It ran great! Just routine services. Great family car or single's car. Ended having to sell it because of tight finances, and am still kicking myself for it. Awesome car for me!
Best Mid-size SUV
My new Nissan Pathfinder is everything I have wanted in a car. Great safety ratings, enough room for three car seats, and plenty of power. It is very comfortable and extremely well-equipped for the price. I would reccomend this car to anyone looking for a practical alternative to a mini-van, or any other SUV for that matter.
Great SUV!!
I fell in love with my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder after a test drive. It has great handling and performance. The only negatives are: it does not have running day lights, auto locks, and the third row is kind of tight for an adult. The Bose stereo system is awesome. The premium and comfort packages include the DVD system. Among all other SUV's after a long search and drive tests, without doubt this is the best!!
u better get one
I had this car for a week and the odometer reads 527 miles already. It is extremely fun to drive it. I have to admit the seats are very comfortable along with the car ride. You can fill up gas tank with about $42 and it will go for about 345 miles.
Love my nissan
I love this vehicle. When I wrecked my minivan and had to get a rental, we got a pathfinder. I instantly fell in love with it. It was comfortable, stylish, great on gas, and I felt safe.
Great alternative for minivan shoppers
My wife's first choice was a 2005 Odyssey. I was fine with it 'till we saw this magnificent SUV. We were sold, other SUV's would've cost a lot more for the kind of car we got. Almost everything is great in this car, good steering feel, nice breaks, lots of airbags and most of all, we love the ext. design. We got an aftermarket leather, it's not as good as the orig but it's FREE(no heaters though). Second row space is a little short of leg room and the 3rd row, don't try to squeeze people there that's over 5'5" tall. Not unless you really don't like them. The V6 power is never short, step on it and it'll give you all you want. The trany is flawless while in motion. Climate contrl is wonderful
05 SE 4WD
I have owned my pathfinder since March 05. I have been rear ended and had less than 1k in damage. Stood up wonderfully. The poor soul that hit me didn't fare as well in their car. I think this SUV is great, and I get a lot of compliments on it. Looks, ride, size. People are amazed at how inexpensive it is. Most say ot looks more expensive.
drive one and you will besold
I had a chrysler Pacifica and had nothing but trouble so started looking and had no idea what to buy. Then,my husband and i went to Montana for a vacation and we rented a nissan pathfinder. We put nearly 1700 miles on the car and loved the ride, the comfort, the handle.. there were no blind spots..so needless to say visibility was 100%. I spotted this car in a lot when we got home..the beauty of this car surpasses all. So we now knew what to buy..Again last week justgot back from vacation to Penn Dutch and put on over 1200 miles. Our friends with us loved the backseat comfort and ride. Now they are planning to buy one.Trust me,once you drive a nissan pathfinder you will be sold donna legendre
Photographer's Pathfinder
As a free-lance Colorado photographer I drive out during bad weather to get the 'perfect' shot. Don't go off-road but travel on roads that are not always 'user friendly'.Considering the purchase of a new 4x4, my top priority was reliability. Research indicated Nissan's quality & reliability to be one the best. I wanted to buy American but reliability was low and recalls were high. My Pathfinder has already been through deep mud, dirt roads,Kansas Summer temps and over Vail Pass (10,666Ft.)during a snowstorm. With over 8,000 miles(already),of Colorado driving and a St.Louis road trip the Pathfinder has the comfortable ride, off-road capabilities and the power to get me the 'perfect' shot.
The best of the Best
This car was the best thing that ever happened to me. I had a chevy before and it fell apart on me and it was a 200 chevy astro conversion and i traded it for the nissan pathfinder. And this tuck has a beautiful ride very powerful good on gas and comfortable to drive with the family or even step on the gas once in a while.
2005 Pathfinder
Im 6'2" and could use more head room. But other than that I like everything about the vehicle.
?
I have a 2005 pathfinder and everything squeaks no major motor problems at 60 k I have 24 inch rims and tires on back rear out of line will eat up tires and the truck makes a million noises and eats gas but very reliable....
pathfinder leads the way
The outside noise stays outside. I can hear my daughter from the third row seat. The power is there when i need it. The horn is not loud enough. I liked the horn on my ford explorer better. Everything else is up to par.
PF05
I've had my pf for 5 months now and really enjoy the ride and the power. After a 5-6 hour drive to the mtns. there's no driver fatigue. The pf handles very well for an suv, even in the corners! There's also plenty of room in the back with the seats folded down to sleep. An interior handle to open the liftgate would have been a nice feature. Overall I like my pf except for some ergonomic issues.
Omg, how did this happen?
I bought this really good Nissan Pathfinder SE, but 5 years later I regreted it. Just when I was done financing this car and when the warranty was done, the car broke down and I had to bring the car to a friend who inspects and fixes cars. He inspected it and said the "water boxe's" water went into the transmissioner and they had to fix it and they gave me a crappy 2002 Honda Accord. After 2 weeks, I got my car back. (Yesterday) And I paid him $4700 dollars and I drove her home. But at 4:00, I went to wash the car and clean the engine but when I saw the transmissioner and the water box, I saw that nothing was replaced or anything. It was all the same. So I just wasted $4700 for nothing.
2005 Nissan Pathfinder
This is my 4th Nissan Pathfinder. The design and overall quailty are good. I espically like the new size. It is ideal for most any application. This is a great vehicle for weekend adventures and weekly commuting .
My First SUV and is the best SUV!!!
This is my first SUV. Added the premium package and other extras like splashguards, floor mats, etc. We do a lot of road trips and this is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven. I test drove Highlander, Pilot, MDX and found Pathfinder to be the best of all. Being 6'1" I feel this vehicle has the most comfortable seating.
Great SUV, Beats the MDX
My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is my first SUV. I almost bought an Acura MDX. The quaility is here, this truck is built like a tank and talk about horsepower (270). Nissan has been building 4X4s for years and I think they have gotten it down. I researched this truck for about a month, got the one I want and payed the price I wanted not a penny more...
Nissan Pathfinder 2005
I just got my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder on 1/3/2005. I traded in a Madza Tribute. This truck blows it away. The style and comfort are great. I would recommend the '05 Pathfinder to anyone looking for a midsize SUV with an afforable price.
Best of 10 SUV's tested
I started looking for an SUV about 2 months ago, and tested 10 different ones, including Jeeps (I have owned 7 Jeeps in the past 20 years). The first thing that blew me away was the interior and quality of workmanship of the LE. They thought of everything! I drove the Cadillac, Mercedes, BMW 5 Series, Jeep Limited, etc. and my impression of the LE was that it should cost $10,000 more - The quality and design of the leather, the standard 3rd row, the Bose speakers (I actually started listening to classical music). Acceleration is superb. Handling is wonderful. Can't make the car rattle. Went to 4 different dealerships and would recommend DARCARS. Got best treatment and deal by far w/ no BS.
Best Truck On The Road
We were going to get the Ford Explorer but it doesn't come close to the great looks & performance of the Pathfinder. The new design is so classy looking & the extra seating is great. We are lovin' this truck!!
So much better than my Ford Explorer
I have always been a Ford man, never driving an "import". Finally the resale value of Fords turned me to products by Nissan & Toyota. I have to say I am glad I made the switch. The overall quality of my Nissan Pathfinder is so much better than I have learned to live with. It is loaded with extras, has more power than I know what to do with and has a new powerful look to it. No wonder Nissan has one of the highest resale values on the market.
2005Pathfinder_OffRoad
The overall build quality of this vehicle appears to be very solid. I'm still trying to adjust to the vehicle coming from a 2003 Z71 Tahoe. The V6 takes much more effort to get to speed. Both vehicles get around 14mpg city driving. The Bose stereo is not as full sounding (along with rattles) and the seats need additional adjustments. The ride is not quite as smooth as the Tahoe, although the handling is much more precise. The interior plastics on the Pathfinder are a large improvement from GM. I think the Pathfinder is a great vehicle if you are in the market for a mid-size SUV. I'm relying on the resale and reliability of Nissan to justify my purchase.
Nothing Better In It's Class
The 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is really a great vehicle. I bought the fully loaded LE with DVD and NAV. In comparison to luxury brands, the value here is tremendous. I also have an 2003 BMW X5, which drives very well. In comparing both, the Pathfinder holds its own. It handles great in snow and off road. I would prefer a stiffer suspension though. The Honda Pilot has more room, but not the off road handling or the looks. The Toyota 4Runner won't offer the sunroof or Limited version if you want the third row. No American car compares well at all. This Pathfinder replaces my 1990 Maxima, which I bought in 1990 - it has over 220,000 miles and is still going strong, so I really endorse the Nissan engineering.
