Used 2004 Lexus RX 330 Consumer Reviews
Could be Better
This is a reliable, quiet vehicle that get fairly good mpg for an suv, but it is not a driver's car. Driver ergonomics and handling characteristics are disappointing. The driver's seat is not deep enough and does not have good thigh support; the pedals could be more vertical - I get tired after extended driving. The steering is too light and is easily influenced by every undulation on the road. The transmission refuses to downshift, especially when you're at 2200-2400 rpm and need to pass or merge. The engine revs up, but the tranny refuses to kick in - I've had to manually downshift to 3rd gear many times - wost tranny I've had. The verdict: I think Lexus designed this for my wife.
Reliable "mature" SUV for road trips & snow
Purchased 5 months ago. When we buy, we research and focus on so-called "older" cars that are deemed reliable (by professional reviews and owners). Then we drive them for 10-15 years. A 16-year-old Lexus fits the bill. Luxury for a bargain. Not low mileage, but we trust Toyota and Lexus. Our other car is a Nissan Leaf; it will be used for nearly all of our city driving. Thus, the Lexus will be driven for about 1/4 of our total kilometres. We anticipate the Lexus will last us 10 years. So, my review comments are not based on long-term ownership. My comments are based on my research plus our short-term observations Positive: comfort, smooth handling, good turning radius, AWD for snow, solid reputation. I can sleep in the back of the car - good for brief camping trips with the dog. Good price; we appreciate that the 2 previous owners absorbed about 90% of the depreciation. Negative: Huge C-posts: poor rear viz. Cargo capacity is good, but limited by the slope of the tail-gate. Quirky transmission, many others have made this comment (still, I trust Lexus). The original sound system is acceptable but not great. Lexus gas milage is just so-so; however, annually, we won't use much gas because we'll drive the Nissan Leaf most of the time. OWNED THE CAR 30 MONTHS NOW. Quirky electronics. Dash-board lights up suggesting motor problems. Expensive repairs. One mechanic replaced the alternator. Because he had to disconnect the battery during that work, some of my electronics had to be re-programmed. For that, he charged me another $150 to resolve the problems created by changing the alternator. So, the next time I needed service and repairs, I took it to the Lexus dealer. (I sense they might know more about Lexus repairs.) Expensive. And, the dealer suggested I get more repairs -- $3,400 of them. Sheesh. I hope I don't come to regret buying the Lexus. Update in late 2024. One detail. For camping, I'd prefer a Toyota Sienna AWD. I'm old. Sienna has way more head room for getting up to pee in the night.

Very reliable mid SUV in it’s class.
I bought my 2004 RX330 used w/ around 40,000 + miles. Never been in a shop for repair since. Just maintenance, (oil; brakes; fluids) that’s all. Now it has 240,000 miles. Still runs good. We move here in Northern Mississippi and the ice and snow 2-3 inches is nothing w/ it’s AWD. Just press the ECT Snow switch and you’re good to go.
RX 330
Exellent suv, ride like a luxury car, very quiet ride can't hear any wind draft even at high speed. Has an easy handling, responsive to turns.
Radio and CD
My Lexus only has 20,000 miles on it, but the CD player is already going out. I can only play one CD instead of the 6 that are available. I took it to a place I know is reliable (they work on car sound equipment) and he said it is almost gone. Other than that I love the car..
