Used 1998 Isuzu Rodeo Consumer Reviews
I keep thinking it'll get better...
So far this car has been a headache to own. It's noisy cabin is just a start to the myriad of problems I have found with the Isuzu. Problems from paint flaking off of the tires to the radiator cracking during a particuarly cold winter have all added up to many more dollars of repairs than I'd like to admit. Each maintenance problem is followed by another large maintenance problem. The deal I originally got when purchasing the car has been long lost with the thousands of dollars required to run it. Never again will I buy an Isuzu.
Great vehicle for all purposes
I can do anything in this truck. It looks good. Plenty of hwy power & p'up. Climbs anything off-road, serious fun. Holds a ton of stuff. Pulls 3500 lb. trailer-load. Unfortunately, the alternator was undersized, so have had it rebuilt twice already. I like that it's now actually smaller than many other SUV/crosses out there, which aren't even really true 4WD. Gets 18-24 mpg. But, in the winter the mpg stinks, down to 14-18 with my studded snows in Colorado mtns. I don't understand why the resale is so low. I'm the original owner, 11 years so far, 100K miles. Before this I had an '84 Trooper for 14 years which was also great, but gutless.
BAD ENGINE! BEWARE!
My Rodeo drove ok. Power not bad for a V6. But LOOKOUT when you get some mileage on it. At about 93,000 miles the engine started losing coolant. I could not see it leaking anywhere. I took it to the shop assuming the head gasket was leaking into the cylinder and burning there. If that was the problem, it would have been a $3000.00 dollar fix. The repair shop called with bad news. A head bolt broke in the block and could not be repaired. A second hand engine with 70,000 miles would have been a $5000.00 repair. After paying $3000.00 for AC work I decided not to fix it. When just out of warranty, the Isuzu rep did not replace my rusted out fog lamps. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING ISUZU!
We love our Rodeo
We have not had any problems with the vehicle at 83000 miles. The car is peppy and fun to drive. The interior is comfortable and looks good. I especially like the dash layout and how easy everything is to use. This is my favorite SUV on the road over anything else.
timeless
This is my 2e Rodeo. I Am buying my 3ed right know. the first (93) Rodeo I Installed a tune up, one set of tires & brakes. I sold that car with org. clutch, batttery, muffler. So I thought I would try one more Rodeo . after two years the guy I sold it to called and said it was the best car he ever had. I have 82000 now (98)and I have installed tires and brakes @70000 thats all other than oil. Still have the org. clutch, battery, Ect. I have had a problem once with the ABS but thats it. Its great to buy a car and not have to have it worked on all the time. ( unlike a German car I had worked on every 2 months)
