2018 Sonata Limited w/ Ultimate Package

I'm 6'1" and I have lots of room and lots of seat adjustments to accommodate my frame. I've got 6K+ miles on the car and I have enjoyed every last one of those miles. Tires are a bit noisy but that will be taken care of when I replace them with better tires. All the amenities of this car makes it a very good purchase. My last Sonata (2011) was still going strong after 170K hard miles, I'm sure this one will do the same. Only drawbacks are, does not have dual exhausts like the 2015, no light in the glove box (which is pretty stupid), no handle in the trunk (2015 has a handle to use to close the truck (keeps hand prints from being on the outside of the trunk)), like the rear design of the 2015 better than the 2018. That being said, the positives are so numerous I can't name them all but here are a few. Cool and heated seats, smart cruise control, rear collision sensor, front collision sensors, lane keep assist, LED headlights that move (when turning), duel climate controls, digital/analog dash combo, 8" LCD GPS NAV/Infotainment screen, and so much more. This makes 6 Sonata's in the family (2 x 2011 GLS, 1 x 2013 GLS, 2 x 2015s Limited, 1 x 2018 Limited ) and we have enjoyed all of them.

Ive always liked hyundai since it has a great warranty. I got a 2018 sonata about 8 months ago it now has a little over 13k miles. The biggest issue here its that it failed on me apparently there is a recall for a nock sensor that may damage the engine and I was one of the lucky ones. Car looses poweer out of nowhere and you are forces to drive at about 50mph. I had to tow the car 90 miles since I didnt wanna cause any more damage to it, dealer said they will fix it but now it leaves me wondering how realiable this car would be in the future I planned on owning it for at least 8 years. I may have to trade it in sooner than I thought. This was a major dissapoinment hopefully they can get it together.

2018 Needs new engine - 5400 miles

So i guess I have the lemon. got oil change at 5100 miles, and the dealer did a flash update on the ECM. got near work and the check engine light came on. Took it back to the dealer they said nothing wrong, the code didnt below to my year. next day same thing. Took to a different dealer, the said the rod bearings are faulty, and it will need a new engine. Hyundai it going to buy it back I think, which is the right thing to do. This is the same problem that plagues the 2011-2014 Sonatas and the Santa FE's. There is a recall on those, and some other years are to follow I believe. Disappointing for sure, but they are going to work it out with me. The car is great otherwise, and no complaints on the other features. If you have any issues with yours or any car you own, be sure to report it to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It is easy, and available online. They will also notify you of recalls, or safety issues. Without doing that, regardless of how small the problem is, there is no checks and balances to protect the consumer. You could help yourself and others to get their vehicles repaired in the event of manufacturer related issues.

Great warranty! Purchased new, have just over 5,000 miles in a year. No problems thus far. Dislike that the doors will swing closed when not fully opened with the slightest breeze. This sucks when you are half way out and the door slams into your knees. Seems like the doors have to be in the fully opened position to prevent this and even this is not a 100% guarantee. Do not like the fact that you need to remove a guard with about 8 - 10 screws to change the oil and filter. If you keep it off then the pulleys and belts are subject to road spray and the like. Do not like the fact that the automatic transmission is sealed and you cannot check the fluid level. This is not just a Hyundai problem however. Dash display could be easier to navigate. Also the tire pressure monitor will not display unless the vehicle is in motion. I DO like the fact that each tire pressure is displayed on the screen however, you don't have to guess which tire is low like in some vehicles. Interior plastics seem a little cheap but all in all this is the second Sonata that I have owned and I traded in a Toyota Camry for this car. I like the Sonata much better! After driving for a year and a half, I get a notice to come in for an engine software update. This update is supposed to sense engine vibration and put the car in safe mode before you blow the engine, some Sonatas have had engine problems since 2011. There have been problems after this software update as people have had to have wiring harnesses changed out etc. I was going to wait until they got the wrinkles out of the software but I started having downshifting problems recently. The car would lurch forward when slowing to a stop from second to first gear as if someone had stepped hard on the brakes. This did not happen at every stop but enough to let you know that something was wrong and annoy you as well. Hyundai has a TSB technical service bulletin about the transmission problem but no recall. I brought the vehicle in and had both the engine and transmission software updates in June 2019 at 9,500 miles. All has been great since, no problems with the engine and the transmission shifts much smoother. I still like the car and hope nothing else happens.
