Not our first ev, or even our first Ioniq 5 but this one is a triumph. Would we love a bit more range? Sure. Do I care? No. Charging is so fast, I don't worry about it. But all that doesn't matter one once you actually get to drive it. This car is a joy and far more fun than a 4,600lb EV SUV should be. The seat and seating position makes drive just feel right and an event. 600 hp (without the button) is just what the old Ioniq 5 needed, and really, really motivates. The sound, "gears" and settings? All shockingly good in real life and easy once you pay the price of learning it and setting it up (non trivial). Niggles? The software in 2025 is significantly better than prior Ioniq 5's, but still lags the likes of Rivian and Tesla (though we do get CarPlay / AA). The efficiency? Who cares? It has 600hp and drives like a go cart on steroids when you want it, a smooth quiet ev when you don't. But when all is said and done, it's the actual driving experience and the feel in the corners that really set it apart. Truly better than the sum of it's parts.
