Overall it's a great car. Going from an SUV that average 18 mpg to a hatchback with nearly just as much room that averages about 28 mpg for me I'm very pleased with my purchase. I wish the base model came with more options (mostly Cruise control!), but with what you get in a base model for 15k it's great

I drove a 2000 Elantra wagon for the last 10yrs. I loved it so I purchased a 2010 touring. This time I got 5sp Manual GSL to save $1200 on purchase price and to get better gas mileage and performace. Paid $15000 vs $11700 ten yrs earlier. I since added Rosta after market cruise $400 and trailer hitch $100. Heated seats cost $250 each aftermarket. Whats better with my new car. Faster, Handeling, brakes,radio,headroom,gas mileage, power door locks on key fob, storage areas. Whats worse, stiff ride,jerkiness of manual shifting vs automatic,tires, no lumbar support. Both cars dent too easily. I love the rear loading area. I call it my covered pickup truck. Getting use to firm ride. Fun to drive

Bought the car as I needed to transport my 2 German Shepherds. With the back seats down, it accomodates them well. The SE trim has a stiffer ride than the GLS which I like. Looks very smart in Chili pepper red with the upgraded wheels. Have 3000 miles on the clock now. Averaging 25 mpg in mixed driving and up to 31 on a 500 mile trip to San Diego. The car is nicely put together with no sqeaks or rattles. Idles very smoothly and is entertaining to corner with when the dogs are not in the back! Leather seating surfaces are by far the way to go as they are easy to keep clean especially from dog hair!

Vivid blue with those wheels!! a combination that our friends really like. I bougth this car for my wife based on my personal experience with a 2001 Elantra and a 2006 Sonata. Engine has a good response, little bit noisy on acelaration but not a cheap noise, just breathing hard, almost the same that my old E 01! Automatic is smoother and I do recommend this option if you have little kids. Rear space is really good but you'll need the net to keep your load in place. Suspension is a little bit hard but remember when yo ask for 17 wheels 215/45 that's the normal feeling. Steering, is electric and feels little bit different than conventional on the HWY, you will love it at the parking lot.

Compared to other brands, the 'extras' like phone integration and navigation are missing, but this car has lots of space for a family (even for adult size passengers in the back seat), and hauling around a hatch full of 'stuff' without giving up economical enough operation to be a great daily commuter. To accomplish this, the engine is smaller than comparable cars on the market- but with manual transmission the ability to say "a little more acceleration please" on the pedals makes up for it by giving precise control to the driver. While it is not a strong contender for "acceleration and speed are everything" driving, the acceleration can be brisk when called for. City driving fuel consumption is not bad, but also nothing special- the long highway drives are where this car shines with several drives over the years averaging around 33-34 mpg with the AC blasting cold air in the cabin all the way. Around the 10-year mark, the moonroof switch started to encounter problems and was cranked closed from behind the control panel and both front windows failed- they rolled down, but stopped rolling up on the front half (the would come up unevenly and bind in a partially open position without someone helping to keep the glass pulled back as the window rolls up). At the end of 12 years with this car, it was reliable, capable and economical - the costliest service needed was replacing the timing belt after about 8 years, and that's pretty normal. Otherwise, it was a solid daily driver until working from home simply made it no longer necessary for our household.
