Lost 20 years at 6500RPM
I bought a 2005 S-2000 a few weeks ago. I keep hearing about the "middle age crisis" and the tendency men have to drop money on garish toys. My buddies got Harleys. I got smart. Suzuka blue. Flawless. Radio was OK, but I prefer the music generated by the engine. I will never sell. It makes a Vette feel like a bucket of bolts. I just drove in from Austin a few days ago. The only problem was a slight sunburn and my face hurt. Constant grinning like a loon makes that happen. Great cornering. The rear end kicks out a little when you goose it but straightens up in a hurry. She is very responsive and wants to play. She emits a high pitched moan @ 6700 RPM. Get one and grin.
Totally Unbelievable!!!
Ever since I was kid I always hoped to by a Porsche 911 as my dream car...That all changed after I purchased my 05 S2000! The car is TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE in every way. And when I see other S2000 owners that have previously plopped down the mega- bucks for a 911, and turn around and sing the praise of the S2000, well it makes me really, really happy! Like a Cheshire cat, I might add! When the engine hits 6500k it takes on an all together different personality. Its a little bit scary, in a real cool way. Its like getting 2 cars in one. Top speed is supposed to be 150. I've had mine up to 118 and it was more stable than anything Ive ever driven, (including a 911). I'll never sell it.

Honda Needs to bring S2K back.
I bought the car from a private seller with 20K mileage. The car is a blast to drive. I smile almost every time I drive it. It's like a Honda Civic below 6400 rpm and then feels like a racecar from 6500 up to 8400 rpm red-line. It has surprising torque at lower speeds and the handling feels race car quick. The convertible top lowers in 8 seconds ( I lowered on the freeway when we were stopped for a moment and didn't miss a beat). Owning and using a convertible is an experience everyone should try. I like motorcycles and this car feels the closest to a high performance motorcycle with the breeze going through your hair. So far, Honda reliability is just that, reliable. Oil changes and tires.
Better then expected
I have owned this car for two months. I initially purchased because it was such a good deal. While this was on my radar, I thought it would be too hard and uncomfortable for my use on long drives. I have been very surprised. I am 6 ft and the car is very roomy, it has a nice ride that is not jarring at all and the seats are fantastic! I have done 6-7 hours of driving in a day twice with no discomfort at all. The engine note sounds great as well, very entertaining. You will hear the engine roaring so don't buy if you are looking for Lexus like quietness. Overall, very pleased at the two month mark.
Great certified pre-owned vehicle
As a recent buyer in 2010 I feel somewhat late to the game, nevertheless I also feel compelled to state an opinion on my recent purchase (within the last two weeks) of a certified pre-owned 2005 S2000. My gawd, what a vehicle and I feel that I got a great deal being pre-owned, according to CarFax there was only a single previous owner, no accidents, and only about 11k miles per year. The closest vehicle I've ever owned before was a 2000 Mustang convertible (purchased new) and while I liked that car, frankly it couldn't hold a candle to my new (used) S2000. The handling, acceleration, overall performance, just wow, fantastic! I've owned about 10 cars in my lifetime and this one beats them all.
2nd S2000
This is my second S2000 after owning a 2003 model. The 2005 (AP2) steering/suspension/wheel/tire combo is a noticeable improvement over my old one. It's really confidence inspiring in the corners. The 2.2L has a little more usable torque at lower RPM as well reducing the need to downshift as much as the 2.0L. the synchros were also improved for 2004+ so the gear changes are also noticeably smoother. With 50/50 city/hwy driving, I'm managing 25mpg.
Private Jet
I purchased my 2005 in February of 2006 with 11 miles on him. I ride a Suzuki sport bike, so I have a need for speed. I was flying down the highway with the salesman, & he told me I was only in 5th gear. This car is fabulous & I will never sell him. If you love speed, love looking great topless (top down, that is), this is the car you need. The most fun you can have on 4 wheels.
so long Porsche....HELLO Honda!
I thought my Porsche 968 was just the best...cabriolet, only 360000 miles, gorgeous car. And then I got into a yellow pearl metallic s2000 (2005). this car is so so so much more fun than my Porsche. The transmission is so much better geared. Love the exhaust sound. And to top it off, I am no longer paying the college tuition for my Porsche mechanic's son! What peace of mind i get knowing that nothing goes wrong with my Honda AND if something does, it is easily diagnosed, cheaply and quickly repaired. This car is without a doubt the finest bargain out there for a performance car. Dump your Porsche and get the Honda s2000!
"Rhonda" (Red Honda)
Bought Rhonda 1 month ago after a test drive. Was looking at several other vehicles but this is the best bang for the buck i could find. She's red with the factory wheels chromed and she's a beauty. I live in SoCal like Denn (see "Whoa Nelly")and the top never goes up. What an awesome car :) My wife didn't care much for the 5 spd manual in my last 2 Mustang GT's but she absolutely loves to shift this one, in fact, it's getting more difficult to get the car away from her. Looks like i found a "keeper". BTW, i'm 6'3" and 225 lbs and do not have a problem with my seating assignment.
Honda 05 S2000
From car fanatic and previous owner of numerous sports cars, nothing comes close to the thrill ride of the S2000, unless you're willing and able to spend 50k or more. This is a car you must learn how to drive to appreciate it's performance ability. It will stir your power-pursuing soul and defy gravity with every crooked country road. Audio is poor, but I would rather listen to the engine and exhaust note of this formula 1 bred sibling, depending on how hard you want to push it. And it likes to be pushed. Lack of low end torque is not an issue, once you become one with Vtech. I have owned 5 new Honda products over the last 10 yrs, all have been great. I'm always being asked, what is this?
The Silver Surfer
I've been driving for 46 years and must say this is the most fun/enjoyable car I've experience - The amazing thing is though 12 years old, it still runs like new! AND will outrun supposedly more powerful cars that boastt higher horsepower numbers! Honda truly put this car together! The S2000 is a keeper! Nothing else out there can give you this sensory experience!

best car ever
I have own my 2005 GPW for 7 years and this car has been so faithful as a daily driver and track car. The only issued i ever had was the clutch other then that this car is bullet proof. Runs handles like a dream and would recommend this car to any one.

Love my daily 70-mile round-trip commute
People think this car is my mid-life crisis... but they didn't spend a year in Iraq thinking about/researching the new car I was going to buy when I got home. My Suzuka Blue Metallic S2000 is a kick to drive: quick acceleration, precise handling, and I don't think I know where the top end is yet... if it has one! Even though my daily commute is 35 miles each way on I-5 from Puyallup to Olympia (WA), I don't mind a little traffic for all the days I get to put the top down, feel the sun and wind, and look out at Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier and the Olympic Mtns. I have the optional hardtop for the wet winter months: good visibility with the full rear window and reduced road noise. I love my S2000!
S2000 foverer
I bought my 2005 S2000 in AUG 2011 with 40k mileage. I am 6'1, I live in NY, this is my daily car all year , pushing hard in dry, wet condition, average 15-20 mpg.
S2000
I love the car, it's a second car for myself and my husband. It's a fun car to drive. The only problems I have experienced so far are a few stalls after starting it up on a cold/frosty morning. And there is a problem with the stereo cutting out for and coming back on of it's own accord a few minutes later. We had it checked and they did not find any problems...
Bullet Train
This thing corners like it's on rails. It's also bullet-proof. I've got over 11,000 miles on it and not a thing to go wrong. Have averaged about 25 mpg driving aggressively. Not much low end torque, but once you get north of 3,000 rpm, and especially when you V-tech the engine, it's a wonderful thing. Highly recommended. The metaphor I like to use is it's a precision scalpel compared to a butter knife. Get the New Formula Red, it sears the retinas.
Top Down Performance
Last year, I sold my motorcycle and wanted to fill the empty void in the garage with a rag top. I considered the Lotus Elise, Porsche Boxster and Honda S2000. The Elise certainly performed the best, but unfortunately suffers from kit car looks and limited dealer access. The Porsche, holds its own in terms of performance, but brings with it high maintenance costs. The S2000, combined stellar performance, excellent visuals and rock solid Honda reliability. The VTEC engine is a treat to listen to and continually begs you to drive it at the top of the rev band!
FunCar
Great classic look. Just plain fun sports car- no frills. Great handling and wonderful shifting.
awesome sports convertible
this is my second s2000, leased first. now purchased. will own until the day i die. that good. if you want performance, love a manual trans and enjoy convertible, get this car
A Pure Drivers Car. Period.
I've owned an 05 S2G since Nov. 2004. This car is built for one purpose. To perform. Everything from the engineering is built to precision. The powerful normally aspirated 2.2 liter VTEC 4 cylinder engine. Best gearbox in the business. World class handling from it's super rigid chassis and suspension. Classic and not over the top design. New and old competitors tries to be like it or tries to surpass it. But nothing compares to this car's balance in terms of performance, price, maintenance, build quality and reliability. Get this one of a kind gem before they stop making them.
All thehype was soooooo truee!!!!!!!!
This car is amazing! I am and have been a Mercedes owner for the past 5 years and I wanted to get a fun car that was at a reasonable price not Mb style. Well my GF pointed this car out and I knew all the awards this car has won, but never really considered it. Well we did not even test drive the car and we leased it. I practically had to re-learn how to drive manual and taught my GF. SHE/I love it! We fight for it all the time. Especially in the summer time. Winter-time is a different story>>> will need winter tires or second car definietly. But man the looks, the people trying to race you! I feel like a celebrity! LOL! 2cars almost had accidents tryin 2look at it!. Itslikeahotchick!!
Fun Car
After drooling for 5 years and thinking how impractical the car is, I went ahead and bought one. Driving has been fun ever since, my commute became my race track, specially the ramps getting on the interstate. The ride is hard, but it's a sportscar what did you expect. My only criticism is low rpm power, I'd like to get out of the hole quicker, not burn rubber, but have more of a gas pedal response as soon as I apply foot power to the gas pedal, top end it really revs, I'd just like more guts at the lower end. It's a bit noisy when traveling the freeway, radio is a bit hard to hear, but these are small sacrifices for styling and handling.
It's a Keeper
The best thing about driving the S2000 is that I am a lady science teacher and my middle school students love it that I can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds in my Honda. My husband has clocked me. My husband's feet are a little too big for the pedals so he doesn't drive it much but we bought the Honda for me anyway. I zip around the countryside, hugging corners, shifting gears. Sixth gear is the best as I feel the burst of power. People smile and wave to us. Young and old have said, "Cool ride!" And it is.
Fun Car
The S2000 is a totally reliable and fun car to drive. We have done a 900 mile day and were ready to get back into it the next morning. No problem!
A Fun Car
This is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. Being 60, I have owned plenty. The car goes through a transformation as you increase the RPM's. It transforms, around 5000 rpms, into a true sports machine, with lots of power and excellent control.
05 S2000
I have always wanted one of these cars since they came out in 2000. I finally found myself in a situation where I did not need practicality and had an extra car for rain/snow driving, so I bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2005 S2000 about 4 months ago with 30850 miles. Whenever I go out and drive this car I don't want to go back home. I just want to keep driving. People have called it a 4-wheel motorcycle based on it's handling, high-revving 4-cylinder and open-air nature; I've found that it is also like a motorcycle in the sense that when you drive it you just want to keep going. (The only other thing that's given me that feeling was a motorcycle.)
Dream Car
This car is fun! It performs like a racehorse, always ready to run hard. It's really a problem going slow. The build quality is excellent, it's styling is something that will look as good 10 years from now as it does today. This car is real tight and handles better than any car I've ever driven. As a toy it's great, not recommended as a "commuter car". This car is what a sports car should be, fast, well handling, beautiful. If you're looking for something to cruise the strip in and look good, look elsewhere, but if you want to have fun carving mountain roads, this car may be for you.
Better than ever!
This is my second S 2000. I had the 2003 model that had the 9000 RPM red line. That car was a scream. Now with the new 8200 redline, I have to be aware of the redline otherwise the fuel cutoff kicks in and you will bog out until the next higher gear is shifted. This will take a little adjusting. The 17" new wheels and spoke design are a plus, and the new headlamp and tailight configuration are very nice. The oval exhaust pipes look fatter and give it a better look. The new drink holders are very cool. This is still the best 2DR Roadster for the money, and when they stop production for the new prelude, it will go up even more in value. Great car!
A True Value Packed Roadster
I traded an '01 MR2 for the Honda S2000 after a test drive. In september 2004, I ran from hurricane Ivan, my first chance to drive the S2000 the distance between Fort Walton Beach Florida and Harrison Arkansas. I made the trip straight through in 20 hours stopping only for fuel, food and coffee; lots of coffee. Highway 65, between Little Rock AR and Springfield MO, has all the Ozark mountain twisties anyone would ever want. The S2000 swooped and sang through the old highway's curves at more than twice the posted limits and did it well enough to make this smilng sexagenarian glad I owned an S2000.
Absolutelywonderful!!!
I love to look at it...drive it and play with it!! The acceleration is terrific, the sports car noise reminiscent and the "package" extraordinary for the dollar. I've had mine since 2002 and will not get rid of it...
A good fit!
After driving Z4, Boxster, and S2000 I spent a good deal of time considering which I would be the best for my situation. Exterior styling on Z4 is good, interior and ride is rubbish. Boxster is the nicest drive of the 3, but at considerable running costs. The S is just fun, good looking and bullet proof. Engine note on Boxster is supreme. I actually plan on driving this car daily at some point and prefer to trade seldom. The Boxster is a bit better in every way except running costs and maybe steering speed / response. In short, Boxster cost is 2X up front, 3X to run, and lasts 1/2 as long. S wins on precise handling and overall reliability.
A true sports car
I spent a lot of time reviewing and driving all the competitive 2 seaters out there and chose the S2000 and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I have always wanted to drive a sports car and Honda has built one that meets all my expectations including having to put it away for most of our New Hamphire Winter. It does not do well on ice and snow to say the least but I knew that and planned for it. I have seen a few out there this Winter so some people must add snow tires and probably studs and survive. The rest of the year is pure joy. The suspension and handling are consistant and predictable. It is a real 50/50 rear wheel drive car. The engine is smooth and very powerful for a 2.2 L.
Daily Driver
My 2000S is a daily commute car as well as fulfilling its natural mission as incredible fun to drive. I would like a little more stowage in the cockpit, and the "glove box" between the seats is difficult to access while sitting. Added aftermarket rear speakers (Lucid Automotive)to the factory head unit to make the radio useable at speed with the top down. The best sports car bargain around! Drives like a champ, with none of the usual small-car nerves when surrounded by brutish SUVs and thoughtless pickup trucks. A young woman asked if it was a BMW - no, I said (remembering my last BMW)it's better looking, more enjoyable, and a whole lot more reliable.
My S2K
Great car! Fun to drive! Had it for just over a year now and I love it. It's quick, sticks to the road like it has glue on the tires, handles very well. Although it's my 1st sports car, I drove many others before I bought. The S2000 was by far the best choice.
S2000
Whats not to like about this car. Solid as a rock (more so than a lot of hard top cars), stunning good looks, excellent hids, great led tail lights, superb handling, awesome gearbox, and honda reliability and amazing value. Snatch em up while you still can. This car is one of the best kept secrets in today's auto world. And my other car is a 2004 BMW M3.
Miata On Steroids
I recently traded my 2nd Miata on a 2005 S2000. I thought I'd miss the Miata, I was wrong. Don't misunderstand, I loved my Miata, but the S2000 is just that much more car. The new engine is very drivable, great MPG, more usable trunk. I usually run out of speed limit before running out of gears, and still get 28 miles/gallon.
Love this car!
I live in the Northeast, therefore, I will use this car for spring, summer and fall driving. My winter car is a "practical" Accord. The S2000 is my 3rd Honda and I love it! It's sleek and comfortable. I'm 5'4 and it's easy to get in and out my tall friends have a difficult time. I've had the car for 3 weeks and I can't tell you how many people want to race me. I tested out the Miata and there is NO comparison. My golf clubs and an overnight bag fit easily but I would like a compartment in the driver door that closes. You get a lot of car for the money and will be very happy if you buy this car.
Love it!
The car fits me perfectly, although my husband at 6' is a bit snug in the passenger seat. It is a blast to drive and handles very well. It has great acceleration. The trunk is small, just big enough to fit an overnight luggage piece, but then again it is only for 2 people. Although there is only one package option, there are plenty of colors for both the exterior and interior to choose from.
Suzuka Blue
This car is sick and poised at the same time. The limited slip rear provides much fun on tight corners. And with each day I become more impressed by her abilities to carve the curves. This is a car you wear but as the scenery flies by, you forget about the compact size. And once you hit 6,500 rpm... she hits power-band much like a CR 250. When will Honda provide us with an eight cylinder monster?
Not for the Faint of Heart
After purchacing my S2000 in Anchorage in March, I quickly realized that a second car was needed in any area that required driving in the snow. That being said, this is the most fantastic car that I've ever driven. Though it packs quite a punch (240 hp), it is a very tame every day driver. But, when you want to unleash that horsepower, it's always there on command. It's handling is extremely precise, and there is little or no body roll in the corners. The chassis is extremely rigid, and the car feels as it is one piece. Having 6 speeds, the shifter is crisp and has short throws. The seats are firm and supportive. There is very little trunk room, though, so pack lightly.
Best Sports Car for the Money!
I have wanted one of these cars since they came out almost 6 years ago. This is without a doubt one of the best handling, convertible sports cars out there. Must be a reason that Car & Driver voted it number 1 in a comparison test for 2004 and also rated it as one of their choices in their Top 10 annual category. The only things that I would change is the tonneau cover design, and I think the interior needs more storage space. Other than that the car is perfect.
S-2000
I love driving my Honda S-2000. It is fun and reliable. I wish I had access to a race track so I could find out how really fast it can go.
2005 S2000
Very fun to drive. Best handling car I've owned. Great acceleration and top-down fun! Beware huge blind spots with the top up. Not a long distance hauler. About two hours is the max before you want to get out and stretch your legs. Better fuel economy than expected. Measured over 27 mpg with several short trips & some mixed highway driving. The stereo stinks, but apparently has gotten better than on past models.
Mid Life Crisis Medicine
This car replaces a 2004 Honda Element I owned. Golly gee wilickers !! This is just the most fun car I have driven and I can say that truthfully. This makes about the 40th something vehicle I have bought and driven. Of course, being 5' 7" makes it easy for me to get in and out of the car. Get one - have fun - enjoy life - you will not regret it.
My 4th S2000
Can't beat this car for bang for the buck. Will outrun anything on 4 wheels in the canyons and most bikes, too. Plus doubles as a daily drive. Great gas mileage, low maintenance costs.
8000 zoom heaven
Just sold my 1967 XKE Jag to slip my nearly 80 year old body into this S2000 baby. This is a true Sports Car Roadster as defined by 1950/60 standards, (i.e., not a touring convertible with 6 cup holders. The beautiful 6 speed close ratio gear box is so quick, with just a twist of the wrist. This is a keep the revs up car, but oh so sweet between 6000/8000 revs. It belies me how the cam shaft design upon reaching engine 6500 rpms, kicks in like the old time superchargers. They only built 7200 of the S2000 a year at the Susaki racing factory, perhaps Japans best kept secret. Hope they continue with a 2006 model, if not the 2005 is destined to become a collecter car before its time.
Finally--One to Keep
This is hands down the most fun car I have ever owned. Gorgeous styling--and, no, it cannot be mistaken for a Miata-- terrific handling, one of the sexiest engine notes imaginable (especially post 6200 rpm), high performance gearbox and shifter, incredibly precise handling/cornering, Honda reliability, a 30k price tag, plus the fact that you see relatively few of them on the road make this a most desirable car. I love it when, as it often does, people ask at lights or at the gas station what I'm driving. To a person they say they never heard of the s2000 and that they love the looks. I have to agree with them. I will be keeping this one a long, long time.
The one you want
If you want to get the most bang for your buck, look no further. It is quality inside and out. No problems, except the factory bridgestone tires do wear out pretty quickly. For long drives, I actually perfer to take this car as opposed to my wifes SUV. And with good packing, you can fit a lot into it's trunk. But if you were really concerned about trunk space, you wouldn't be looking at roadster. To sum it all up, this has been the best car I ever bought.
Silver S2000
Bought this car as a birthday gift for myself in March 04. Had been reading about it and salivating over it since 1999. It is a truly wonderful car with a sexy classic appeal. I have pushed it to its limits cornering wise on several occassions. The back end will get loose if you are not careful. It is definitely a great handling car and I upgraded the tires to Bridgestone PSO2's to make it better. I plan to have this car forever and would take it to heaven with me if I could.....But I hear Angels can fly....:)
Best car I have ever owned
After a wonderful 3 year lease, I have sold my red S2000. Buying this car was one of the greatest ideas I ever had. It handles like no other production car out there. It screams around corners and brakes hard enough to loosen your fillings. It looks great and has never had a single mechanical problem. It is faster than its competition, costs less for the most part, gets better fuel economy and has a bigger trunk while weighing less. Amazing.
