Cold weather on 2019 insight
I purchased last year's model 2019 Honda insight hybrid new January 2020 love the car everything about it but living in Minnesota the cold is so harsh I'm only getting 32 mpg on my brand new 2019 Honda insight EX :( Before I purchased it I asked the salesman about Minnesota winter he said I might lose 5 miles per gallon... One of the biggest reasons to purchase my new insight was for the mileage I have owned many Honda's for over 30 years and have great luck with them... I just not happy with the mileage I'm getting...
Upscale, subtle and efficient sedan
I bought my Insight after comparing it against the Buick Regal, Civic hatchback and Kia Niro—all very different, but practical FWD cars. The Insight Touring won me over with its outstanding gas mileage, handsome looks and upscale interior, especially with its light gray interior. Love the pushbutton shifting, automatic high beams and rain-sensitive wipers. Reviewers have rightly carped about the booming engine on hard acceleration and the low seating position. But my Insight is fun to drive, and feathering the accelerator minimizes the need for the engine to kick in. Handling and ride is excellent. Right-side camera that comes on with the turn signal for lane changes is handy—except when using navigation. It's easy to turn off, in those instances. The trunk is nicely sized and rear seats folds down for longer or larger loads. The touchscreen is easy to use, especially with Apple CarPlay. The console is deep and useful. What's not to like? The standard Navigation feature seems to have quit after a year—need to take it in for service. I wish the instrument panel offered a large MPH reading. Back seat legroom gets snug with 2 tall passengers in the front. Honda never provides an inside trunk handle, unfortunately. I had the dealer install the bag holder in the trunk, and should have payed for two of them. I hate the raspy, puny, timorous horn. A year into ownership, the deep blue paint still looks great, the gas mileage is still excellent, and it makes me smile to drive the Insight. I find it much more attractive than the Civic, and worth the extra cost for the hybrid drivetrain.

20 month 35k mile review
Bought the 2019 insight ex in July 2018. I loved how it rode in the test drive and even though I had only brought my 2017 civic ex in for an oil change I drove home in the insight. Been a civic (owned 7) and Accord (owned 2) lover over past 20 years but this is the perfect medium between the two. It's a smooth and peppy ride. I have seen other reviews saying its sluggish but I must have gotten the Friday car. 0 -60 7.5 seconds in sport mode and when cruising at 60, I can pass easily . Of course there are the confusing idiosyncrasies with the hybrid, like if the battery is low, yes it is sluggish and makes way more noise than necessary, but that's solved by generous use of sport mode which keeps the battery charged. I love that there is no transmission to speak of. It just goes. No lag between gears. Even so I always get 50 + mpg. In colder climates you will get less because cold battery and heater eats up the juice. I also like the look with the Maserati like tail lights instead of the civic or accord alligator mouth. The front grill also mixed elements of both. Interior is great with 60/40 split fold down in back. Head unit lower so it doesn't stick up like you plopped an ipad on the dash like the accord. Also I like the push button shifter. I mean why have a frickin handle when a button is so much easier and neater. And the lane watch is much better than a beep if someone is in your blind spot. I cant understand how reviewers have not liked that feature. So yes I like the car. Pros: great gas, comfy and responsive ride, nice look, great interior and electronics. Cons: annoying engine sounds st range times. Only 2 stage paddle shift regen breaking. They claim 3, but its 2. I will probably keep this model for awhile because I read that they are discontinuing the lane watch camera. I'm hooked on this car.

Top Notch Value for Money
Got this for my wife who is a teacher- she loves the interior, pickup speed and gas mileage driving everyday to work. We’ve owned the car for a little over a year now with around 15k miles and while I was a bit anxious last year taking a chance on a new model, Im convinced now this is a keeper- Honda has vowed her and me. I would say this is the most under appreciated hybrid ever. Super quiet interior compared to other vehicles in its class. Also this is a maintenance saver- only been to the dealership once a year so far for an oil change-makes sense it has a hybrid motor so does not use much oil. Total money saver! You could not ask for much more in this package!

2019 insight
My 2019 insight is the first hybrid and first Honda I’ve ever owned. Coming from a Subaru family and a Nissan background myself this was a big change for me and I’ll try to keep this short. The apparent range will probably be possible after the engine is broken in. After one tank of gas in western PA my MPG was 48(EPA 55). It only has 490 miles on it so for the first tank of gas (only 10.6 Gallons) that is impressive with all the hills here. The engine does what it wants at low speeds and if you watch the power flow meter it never really is the force that powers the wheels completely so that’s something you’ll have to get used too. Because of its ECVT it is the most CVTish car I’ve ever driven (coming from an Altima with a CVT) but with two motors what do you expect? The car isn’t that comfortable, my altimas seats were 10 fold better, for its low power it goes get up and goes well, the options are great for the EX trim, and the stock power saver tires suck. I didn’t buy this car because it was the best of all worlds; I bought this car because it’s great on fuel, it’s the first hybrid that looks normal, the MPG’s are awesome, it’s comfortable enough, and it’s a Honda! Just be sure to take care of your paint on new Honda, I heard it’s not very strong. Update ** I sold the car earlier in 2021 and bought a Mazda CX-5. Best decision I’ve made in a while. Although the car made sense for me when I was driving an hour one way to school, thanks to covid, I was able to sell it since school was on Zoom. The car was shockingly low, buzzy, and the EX trim package doesn’t make much sense to me. Going from the base model to the EX you get the bigger screen and the blind view camera (it’s not very helpful). I get that having a more affordable option available helps more people get into the car but the difference between the first two trims makes it almost pointless to me, especially given the only 1700ish difference in price. Take a look at the trim packages before you buy because the small difference with the base —> EX and the stark difference between the EX —> Touring trims is odd. I don’t think I’ll be interested in a hybrid from Honda for a while due to how hard the engine revs when the batteries low. It really bothered me driving by myself and people in the car with me. In general, I should of just gotten a Toyota hybrid car.
