The One Year Review of the Civic Hybrid
I've owned my hybrid for just over a year now. With the honeymoon phase over, I still enjoy my hybrid. I've not had a single problem with it. I've averaged almost 53 mpg (calc). After 8K, the mpgs jumped some, so hang in there, folks. I have very similar feelings about the car as others, so I'd just like to add that this is an economy car. Don't expect leather, GPS units, entertainment packages, power seats, etc, etc. I do think it has a nice array of features, though, and ones that you'll use the most. Also, remember that Honda doesn't have anything to do with the EPA estimates-- although they do promote them in their ads.
Great little car
We missed purchasing the car during the initial shipment in our area, but after contacting over 40 dealers in our state, we lucked out and found a dealer who still had one in their showroom. We drove 400 miles to buy this car, and we couldn't be more pleased. It didn't even take a whole tank of gas to drive it home! The ride is smooth, the seats are comfortable, the vehicle is attractive both inside and out, and I take delightful glee in seeing the "average mpg" display gauge, which at this time is showing 46.7mpg (we drive on hills). We're just tickled!
making a statement
What a great way to make an eco statement...without looking silly (have you seen that other hybrid on the streets?). This car is great!
Solid Vehicle
I've always had Honda type cars and they all have a certain Honda feel to them. Solid if not spectacular and pretty rock solid if one doesn't "dog" the vehicle. Beautiful styling, fuel economy and hopefully, long term reliability. The car sits a bit higher than I was used to on the Integra but am slowly acclimating, doesn't accelerate as quick or handle as well as the Integra but hey, thats the trade off for a more fuel efficient, comfortable car. As a constant commuter who gets bogged in traffic as I do, this is a great car. For the open road, race car enthusiast, there are better choices.
I never thought I would ever own one!
I never ever thougth I would own another japanese car, but after 3 years owning a piece of crap american car.. I went back. What a difference it has made in my life. No more problems! No more hassles! Only the best driving experience of my life!
silver fun
I bought my car a little over a month ago, this car is so incredable to drive. It is a smooth ride it handles road bumps great, it has great acceleration. With the windows down the moon roof open and the Florida breeze in your hair you can't loose.
I love my hybrid!
We put over 35,000 miles a year on this car, and are absolutely delighted with our gas mileage and fuel savings. We love the color, a pearlized blue that only comes on the hybrids, and we love the cute style. Most of all, we love helping the environment with a fuel responsible vehicle.
Good car
I like the fact that this vehicle is small yet the interior is so roomy! Its a great car, I have no major complaints. I would definitely suggest this car to anyone. Its safety and reliability ratings are excellent. It holds up its value well. Smart buy for anyone who is value consious and cares about safety
best mileage out of a totally gas engine
I've got a 2003 honda civic ex coupe totally gas engine 1.7 L 5 speed i've got about $200 worth of upgrades in it, trust me its totally worth it.. I'm getting avg 44 mpg on the highway and 37 in the city, it's got a cold air intake with a ram air inductor new exhaust, came stock with 2 mufflers, now it has one straight pipe with one straight muffler, plus a small performance chip, i go within 3mph of the speed limit and when I'm coming up on a stop or going down hill i kick it into neutral. i can get between 550 and 650 miles per fill up depending on how i'm driving, i always fill up b4 the gas light comes one
Long live the si
This car has been great! I've driven it for a few years now and I'm ready to buy a new one. The handling is great on cornering with the right tires. Acceleration isn't amazing, but hey it's a 4 banger. The only complaint is the cost to repair. Nobody has parts and most people don't even know what kind of car it is. If you're a young kid and you want something with low maintenance and fun to drive this is it. Or if you live in a city it's so easy to park. Great little car! Owning this car has made my wife and I Honda enthusiasts.
quints ex
flawless...yet lacks that distinct personality you find in the domestic makes that have suspect reliability and quality issues (I.E. ford, chrysler,gm) however over the year I've owned the honda its looks have grown on me...
03 EX: none better at it's price
I can tell you that as a long-time Honda civic owner this version is by far the most refined, sporty and reliable to date...far nicer than the '99 I recently parted with and far superior to anything in it's price range. The fit and finish are top- notch. The interior is very stylish and I much prefer the 03 cloth vs the 02 and older cloth interior. I can only think of two complaints: 1) the engine does seem a bit louder than my '99 did. 2) the new interior fabric, while very nice, doesn't seem to allow you to move around easily...it "hugs" you, not allowing you to move about very easily (get in one and you'll see what i mean).
Hooked on Hondas
Exceptional value for price of the car. Very reliable and quality build. Fourth time Honda owner and will never leave the Honda Family. Love to drive and pass by gas stations. Got the 1.9 percent financing for 60 months. That was just icing on the cake for me. Had a wonderful experience with the dealership. Always recommend Hondas to friends and family. Never knew I would own a Civic after driving Preludes for many years. Drive 25 miles one way to work each day. Very impressed with this Civic.
honda civic LX
just bought my honda and so far i love it. its just the right size and great on gas, however its not all that fun to drive. only bad things is the small engine and someone busted up my tail light
Great Car!
Could not ask for more. Gets great gas mileage, very smooth, great price, no problems.
civic lover!!!
this is my 4th civic, but my first brand new one! there's not much to be said that already hasn't here about this great car. great looks (inside and out), fuel economy, reliability. you expect quality from honda and they delivered. it's pretty peppy for only having 127 horses and i never stop for yellow lights anymore ;) it's been 6 months now and the excitement of having a new car still hasnt worn off yet! it's still a blast to drive!!!
Hybrid Owner
I have about 2000 miles currently with lifetime MPG of approximately 42 Great car, luxury line for Honda Civic, just take a look at the EX and compare. Cost is an issue, but remember that there is currently a $2000 Federal tax rebate and the improved savings on fuel. Also, the state of Maryland does not charge sales tax on low emmisions/alternate fuel vehicles, so I saved about $1000 there as well. I recommend this vehicle to anyone, young or old, as an intelligent and responsible choice - just keep in mind it's not a sports car.
No So Happy Anymore
While the engine and gas mileage are good on this car the rest of it is not up to typical Honda standards. Right after purchasing it the trunk was leaking due to a seam that wasn't welded properly. The little bit of metal that is used on the body is cheap- dents very easily. Had light bulbs burn out in less than a year. Original tires are cheap-had to replace after 2 years and that's with snow tires on at least 5 month/yr. At not quite 3 years old new shocks and brakes. Oh and my favorite the turn signal/4 way relay switch I believe it's called just died for no reason-replaced at my expensive of course. And now the cd player decided to stop working. It loads and ejects w/o a cd in it.
civic
great car for the money, dependable, great gas mileage...wonderful
Moneysaver
This car is an amazing combination of economy and comfort. It has a huge interior given its exterior dimensions. It is a good interstate cruiser (on a round trip from upstate New York to Orlando I got 40-42 mpg despite sustained 70-75mph speeds!) and the driver's seat is outstanding given the car's price. There is passenger space and luggage room enough for four people on a long trip. Overall I definitely recommend this car. I'm originally from Sweden and have always driven German and French cars. This Civic beats them all, except the latest Peugeot 307 Diesel which is not offered here in the States.
I'll own this car forever !
I have had my car for 3 1/2 years and have not had any problems with it at all. The only things I've had to do with it is new tires, and oil changes every 3,000-4,000 miles. I am glad I have my Honda Civic right now because it gets great gas mileage which is a big thing now with the price of gas. Do not hesitate to buy this car !!!
Great car
I like my Civic EX. The car is much heavier or feels much heavier than my 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE. On those windy days I don't feel my car being pushed all over the road. The engine is very solid and reliable and there haven't any problems for me to report. I love it! Also, The gas mileage is good....I generally get about 350 miles on a tank of gas, with gas prices being $1.49.
It's like a video game!
GREAT gas mileage! Averaging over 52 now a days with lifetime average of 49. You need to keep it in "lean burn" in order to get the best mileage. Great car in general. No problems in the 6 short months i've owned it.
Just what I've been waiting for
This car gets great gas mileage for being a 4 seater. And it still drives as you expect a civic to drive. So far, I'm very happy with it.
winner all around
I can sum it up in a few words, best investment i ever made worth ever penny of the monthy payment.
Good little car
Wife loves it. Great MPG. Surprising room for a tiny car.
Love it!
This is my very first car as I am a new driver. I've been driving it for a month now and I love everything about it except for the tires. The EX model is equipped with cheap firestone tires that don't do well in snow. I recomend it to other young drivers especially because it's easy to drive, comfortable, great gas mileage, and quiet.
fun car
Bought this car brand new but the previous model year. It's been a great car so far although the side panels seem to get dinged very easily when people parked next to you open their doors and hit the car. I was also rear-ended by a large F-250 on the highway going about 5-10 mph and the bumper held up better than I could have imagined.. I was expecting the worst but all I saw was two small dents in the back bumper.. no damage underneath.
I'll never own anything but a HONDA
I have owned 2 Civic's and now I own a Accord. Honda's are very reliable and fun to drive. I have NEVER had to use the "warrenty", which is really nice.
After 40,000 miles...
After 40,000 miles, my Hybrid is still a solid, comfortable ride. Not a performance vehicle, but a good commuter car. I have been somewhat disappointed in mileage compared to the ads/EPA. On my 80 mile round-trip flat highway commute (70-80mph) the car averages 38mpg. Slowing down really makes a difference, at 55 mph, it gets closer to 52mpg. I'm still having fun learning to tweak the mileage, and I am slowing down. So far, great reliability, no mechanical problems at all.
It works.
Unless you have some type of phobia about being on the road in a small vehicle alongside all these SUV's, this is the car for you. It has great gas mileage,is affordable, reliable, and fun to drive. The only complaint I have is the ill designed rubber front spoiler flap which has come off in both our Civics.
2003 Honda Civic EX
This is a fun, reliable car that I plan to have for many years. Although I've only had it for a little less than a year now, it hasn't given me any problems and I would still buy it if given another chance.
love this car
I love hondas, but this one takes the cake
Got It Yesterday
So far, so good.
03 CIVIC Si
I looked at many cars on the market. Honda has a reputation for reliability. Even though this car may have ~10HP less then some of it's competitors, I belive that the car is a better overall package then the competition. You can easily make 10 more HP out of this motor with a few cheap mods. If you want fast straightline accelerating car, then this car is quick. But I have driven faster 4cyl. The overall package (interior, handling, performance, and reliability) plus the fun factor made this an easy choice for me. I have over 4,000 miles and am even happier with it then the day I bought it...
Needs further gas mileage testing
The car has been a great buy for me with only one down turn. They advertise that it averages 48 mpg city and 47 mpg highway, but I haven't even been there yet and I have 5000 miles on the car. I average 38 mpg which is good, but not good as advertised. The rest of the car is great.
2003 Civic LX
Finally Honda improves fit, finish, and build quality closer to new VW Jetta and Passat. The 96-2001 Civics felt cheap, and had poor build quality. Ever had to replace a 5spd transmition in a 97 Honda Civic? I did. Only gripes I have after 3000 new miles on the 2003 is that the power steering to heavy/muted. Honda listen up..... No car of this price or quality should be without ABS. In short much better than the previous model, however Honda still needs to sit the Civic and the Accord for that matter next to a VW Jetta or Passat and compare every detail. Recomended if money is an issue.
best value
you get all your moneys worth
Nice car but a bit pricey for a compact
We really like the car, but think that we paid more for the Honda name than what it's worth. We also just had a problem with the transmission. Apparently the 03's had a bulletin for transmission problems. We plan on driving the car for some time and now wish we had more than a 3 year warranty.
great car
This is my second civic...I love it. Its fun and stylish and w/ gas prices lately...you can't beat it. $14 to fill it almost every two weeks! I have never had a problem w/ either civic. If they keep making them this way, I'll keep buying them!
great car
I love this car. It is fun to drive. This is my third Honda and by far the best. I would recommend this car to anyone.
It's OK but some issues
The car has been very reliable. I have had to replace the driver's side window motor twice now, I hear others have this issue as well. Like some of the other reviewers, min is at 99,000 miles and my transmission is starting to act funny. I hope I don't have to replace like they did!
Best car for college students
Handle is great, economic (For surviving full time student), Very comfortable, all around the love of my life(keeping in mind its JUST a car)
My Honda is my Booh
My Honda is great, I think thats its definately the better car for the $$$.
2003 2 DR EX COUPE
i just got my car and its a little to early to notice anything wrong with it , i only have about 300 miles on it right now . but as far as i know , this look really good , i went from a tahoe to this civic and iam loving the mpg this car can gives . you cant expect to much performance out of a 4 cyl car , but is better than what i expected , and the seats feel great . like the "si" look alike wheels too .
Great Little Car
I've owned Hondas for 17 years and won't buy anything else. I decided to change from the 5 speed manual back to an automatic and bought the Civic because it was inexpensive and cute, cute, cute!! It surprised me at how quick it is. I was going from an Accord 5 speed with 150 horsepower to the Civic automatic with 106 horsepower. But this little car will scoot! Excellent value for the price.
civic2003
a great car in all aspects.gives excellent fuel mileage and superb handling.nice interiors and styling. gives you value for money.
Economy Meets Sporty
I bought the Civic EX, because I wanted a car that would be freindly to my wallet, but still fun. When you upgrade to the EX you loose some in city gas milage, but I still average 330 a tank, and thats all city driving. The upgrades are what make the EX so cool. A 1.7L V-tech engine Delivers more than enough power, and you also get alloy rims, power everything, moon roof, tilt steering, and premium sound. You feel like you have a sports car instead of an economy car.
Very Happy with my 2002 CIVIC
I am very happy with my civic. Excelent in gasoline, reliable, comfort. I highly recommended.
Wow, what a car...
This is a fantastic car ... I had a Mazda Protege for 3 years and really liked it - before I drove the Civic! I spent one month test driving every conceivable small car and the Civic Sedan LX is miles ahead of them all. My wife drives a Nissan Maxima and the front passenger leg room in the Civic is almost the same as in our Maxima! Incredible space for a small car. I love the dashboard and gauges.
