Keeping the manual transmission alive

2019 Honda Accord Sport 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

Honda has always been known for having some of the best cars on the market. Reliability is one of the reasons I decided to go for the Accord. My very first car was a 2002 Honda Accord and it was a great car so that was my deciding factor. I needed a reliable car that would last me due to the fact that I drive over 20,000 miles a year. I've had the car for about 5 months now and it was very difficult to score the car. There's a lot of good stuff but also there's a few things that bug me. The car is fun...there is absolutely not doubt about that and being able to drive a midsize sedan that has a manual transmission is great. However, I can't stand the clutch on the car. For you car enthusiasts out there that like stiffer clutches or shorter throws, you will struggle with enjoying it. I find the clutch too buttery and the throws are a tad bit long. Granted I could've gone with a Civic Si or a Type R if I wanted a sportier feel but the Accord is a Sport trim so you'd expect it to live up to that trim title. Another thing, the gas mileage isn't that great. I average about 27mpg overall. A small fuel tank makes it feel like i'm wasting more gas than I actually am. I have to fill up every 4 to 5 days (I drive 65 miles highway daily and about another 5 miles are city). The next thing I can't stand are the speakers to the car. The Camry has an option of getting JBL premium sound...to be able to get premium sound in an Accord I'd need to get an EX-L and I am not a fan of the wheel design of the EX-L trim. The speakers on the Accord are a little less than decent. Once you go above level 13 on the sound, songs start to sound like crap. I'm paying $30,000+...I should have an option for premium sound. Now, the Honda Sensing Suite is a fantastic part of the Accord BUT it is WAY too sensitive. When I have Lane Keep Assist activated and I'm going down the highway on a straight line, the car will tell me to put my hands on the wheel. If I don't steer it to the right or left to "detect" my hands, it deactivates. The point of the system is to keep you centered but God forbid you're TOO centered and the car thinks you're not paying attention. Also, the collision warning is WAY TOO sensitive as well. I'm slowing down like normal but if I get too close and i'm not braking hard enough, the car freaks out. It's annoying and it's a known annoyance that the safety features are overly sensitive HOWEVER they work well in the worst case scenarios. It saved me once in thick fog. The Accord was able to detect a car in front of me and stopped for me. So as annoying as it is, I learn to deal with it for my safety. I own an Altima as well and compared to the Altima and also the Camry, the Accord does not lack in technology. Apple Carplay/Android Auto is standard, speed limit sign detection, and the gauge cluster is HIGHLY customizable. You can have album artwork displayed where the RPM's are, MPG, Maintenance, Safety Features, and more. Honda does give the car a lot of technology. Now, I know not having the 6 Cylinder is a bummer and believe me I was bummed as well...the 4 banger is not as bad as you think. Especially having a manual transmission. It's a fun little car and you can feel the turbo kick in as low as 1600 RPM. The interior is also very roomy. Most leg room in the rear seats which is important for me because I carry friends around and I'm tall so my seating position causes me to have my seat back pretty far. The interior does have cheap plastic (as all Japanese cars do) but Honda also added quite a few soft touch materials throughout the cabin so it doesn't feel that cheap. So overall the fun factor on the car is a huge plus, the technology is great, and it feels like a sturdy and safe car. I would've given it a 4/5 but I spend a lot of time in a car...so premium sound has always been a big factor for me. It was either a stick shift with extra leg room and a trash audio system, or an automatic with no legroom and a good sound system. Also the annoyance of the overly sensitivity Honda Sensing Suite bugs me quite a bit. Add that to the less than decent gas mileage, that's how I came up with my score. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful car and a great option and probably one of the best and most reliable cars on the market, but I'm just stating my opinions and my annoyances to possible help someone make a well informed decision on their next car. The Accord more than suits my needs I just wish there were some things different that would make it THAT much better.

Accord turbo over my Camaro

This new Accord sport turbo has more power than my Camaro. As a 6 foot 3, 270 lb man I have so much room. The interior is so comfortable, the sound system and integrated technology makes this ride convenient. I am able to load my golf clubs in the massive trunk. I regret buying sports cars all my life. This car is sporty, luxurious and a value.

An accord is always an accord

You always get high quality with an accord and my 2019 accord EX-L will eventually hold true, just had the car a couple of weeks. Nice looking (subjective) and well made, solid ride but as with all accords, a firm ride. If you want or need a softer ride, try Toyota and maybe Nissan. One design flaw, in my opinion being 6"4" is that Honda allocated (unnecessarily) more room to the back seat than to the more often used front seats. Lots of room in the back but how often are the back seats used compared to the driver's seat and passenger seat? Not nearly as often. Still, there's an adequate amount of room up front but Honda should have made the front seats 2 or 3 inches roomier. Engine is surprisingly quiet for a 4 cyl with a nice pickup. Unlike most 4 cyl. there's very little engine noise when accelerating, unlike the camry, I test drove too. ALL in all, nice car, solid ride (if just a bit firmer than necessary) and of course the reputation of Honda. Those riders under 6'0" shouldn't have any problems. Haven't had the car long enough to report on other car features like gas mileage. Good luck!

Best Overall Mainstream Sedan !

Over 1 year and this thing still makes me smile. Best mainstream Sedan Period. I read these Reviews about issues where people say “ blank car company knows there is a problem.” Or “this issue has been going on with a lot of the ...,,,, cars, why don’t they fix it. What people don’t realize is they go online and search their issue and fine someone or several someone’s with the same issue. So you found 65 people who posted the same problem, but what you don’t see is the other 375,000 people who don’t have anything to report so they don’t post. They are happy. Generally what happens is, someone buys a car. They happen to get a problem vehicle. These vehicles are sometimes just random. Know one knows why it happens. Not even the manufacturer. For every cat ever made, a very small percentage of those vehicles coming off the assembly line are going to be a “problem vehicle”. It’s well under 1 percent. And the manufacturers do everything they can to prevent it, but is still happens. Even for Toyota, Honda, Lexus, you name it. Secondly there are times people don’t understand the newer technology or vehicle operations. For example someone buying a car with a CVT transmission or a Duel clutch transmission. I you have never driven them before and are not familiar with how they operate, you might think there is a problem. CVT’s don’t shift gears. The transmission runs on a belt and pully system so they feel different. Duel Clutch transmissions shift, but they are sometimes not quite as smooth as a regular transmission so people think there is something wrong. Other times, people are just not realistic. If everyone really though about it. Cars have Hundreds of thousands of parts. Miles of wires. More computing power than a PC or smartphone did just a few years ago. How many times does your computer freeze, or you have to restart your phone to get it to work. It’s truly amazing today, with how complicated and complex vehicles are, that we have so very few problems on the whole. So these people get online and tell everyone they know that GM sucks. I just did it and everyone else can do. Type “Problem with _______” any vehicle’s by any manufacturer and see what comes up. Today people are not realistic. They expect too much. You get people who buy a Ford truck, they have an issue with it. They then by a GMC truck and have no issues. So they tell anyone who will listen how good GMC is and how bad Ford is. You can reverse that, or replace the names and the results are the same. When I buy a car, I’m surprised when I trade it in if I had it for 4–5 years and never had an issue. Most people are opposite, they believe all cars should be trouble free. It’s not realistic. I purchased my 2019 Honda Accord EX-L 2.0T in May 2019. This is my First Honda. I have previously owned over 13 new cars in the last 27 years. The best Car I ever owned was my Lexus 350 ultimate. For a car that cost $15,000 less, this car is pretty close. The Lexus was much Quieter on the highway, and the Mark Levenson Sound system blows this one away. Everything else is pretty close. Pros The 2 liter turbo is very powerful and responsive. The engine has great low end power and handles freeway passing with ease. The car strikes a great balance between comfort and driving enjoyment. The 10 speed automatic shifts smoothly and responds to driver inputs. The cabin is well furnished with high quality materials. All the panels fit nicely with very consistent gaps. All the buttons and switches have good heft and feel substantial. No rattles, next to no wind noise. You do get a little low hum road noise, but it’s not obtrusive. The safety systems all work well and are easy to use. I really like the classic looking gauges. They are very sharp, and easy to configure. I have driven faster cars, quieter cars, better handling cars, better riding cars, but none was as good at it all. Some might be a 10 ( on a scale of 1 to 10) for power, but a 5 for ride quality, and a 6 for road noise, but the accord just ranks an 8 in pretty much every category. Just a very solid car, and it looks Great to boot, Cons The upgrade 10 speaker stereo sounds nice, but considering it’s the upgrade stereo the sound quality falls behind most upgrade stereo systems I have had. Not easy to get with Navigation system.

This vehicle sits so low that if you have any back or other orthopedic issues it's a challenge getting in and especially out of it.
