Fabulous Hybrid

They told the truth about the mileage! Rated at 48 mpg, I'm still on my first tank of gas and thrilled that I am currently getting 46.5 mpg. The instrumentation gives continuous feedback about your driving style and what that is doing for gas mileage and battery assist charging. It is very impressive. Now if jackrabbit starts are part of your driving style, you can still do them, but you probably want to switch out of Econ mode and switch into Sport mode. But if that isn't your style, then you are going to be happy with all of the little things this car does to extend a gallon of gas. I had been driving a 2006 Honda Accord EX and my how the electronics and safety have advanced in 11 years! The entertainment options are plentiful and all work well including Bluetooth and Appleplay. On the touring model, the smart headlights (on/off, high beam/low beam) work very well as does the intermittent wipers that sense the amount of rain and adjust accordingly. What is really impressive is that even these automatic features have controls that allow you to tweak the settings and get them just right for you. For instance, on cruise control that automatically slows you down to keep a safe distance behind the car that you are following, it allows you to adjust what that safe distance is for you. So, I've had the car for 4 weeks but it is everything that I have come to expect in a Honda and more!

The hybrid delivers on its promise. Mixed city and hwy driving yielding 40+ mpg. Very low drive noise means the upgraded stereo in the touring model really comes through. Not a luxury car like Acura, Lexus or Infiniti but did not feel like much of a downgrade (came from both a Q50 and TLX). Going into this was looking for a vehicle that really delivered on fuel economy and it has.

Phenomenal Economy

I bought this car used because I was looking for a high end feel and exceptional fuel economy. In the three months I have owned it the car has fully met those expectations. I am averaging around 52/53 mpg on a mostly highway type driving to and from work. I am not an aggressive driver so the 49 MPG claim is probably reasonable for most people. I have the EX-L version. I love driving the car, using the adaptive cruise and the luxury feel. There are three areas that could be irritating. The first is the dual screen information system and the associated steering wheel controls. None of it is intuitive and the manual requires a PhD to work it out and even then you are likely to forget how to achieve the same result a second time. The second is the lack of a split rear seat which, for me was a nice to have rather than an essential feature. The third is the lack of a spare tire. You get a can of leak sealant and a plug in air compressor. If I never get a flat tire then perhaps it won't matter and if I do, perhaps I will be favorably surprised. I can live with all of these and still love the car, which I do. Best car I have ever owned. So, four years on and I still love my car. My overall long term MPG is right at 49.1 after about 60,000 miles. Long trips will reduce mpg, my daily work trips increase it. The biggest factor on day to day variations is temperature. Cold day the mpg drops, warm day it goes into the low 50's. I am not an aggressive driver and leave it on best economy mode. Ironically I have had a bucket load of assorted tire issues from road debris and potholes. The one time it went completely flat the gash was so large the car kit would have done nothing so I had to be towed. I really would have preferred a spare wheel. The car remains smooth and pleasant. I just hit 100,000 miles. With 110,000 miles now, the car remains a joy to drive with continued fuel economy at the same levels as before. Worse in cold weather than the average and better in warm weather. The only big maintenance issue came with significant amounts of water getting onto the passenger side. This was accompanied by the sound of water sloshing around as I drove off or went round some corners. The original diagnosis was a blocked air conditioning vent tube that dumps the water from the dehumidifier. That was addressed by a mechanic and probably was blocked, at least partially. However the problem had not gone away as the next heavy rain proved. The cabin air filter was soaked and covered in leaves and other debris which ruled out the air conditioning, especially as I had just installed a brand new filter. I checked out the sunroof drains and confirmed they were working. I did remember leaves being an issue around the grille under the windshield so decided to look there. Removing the grille also required removal of the windshield wipers and the plastic retainers. Once removed it was clear what was causing the problem. When rain goes down the windshield it collects in a large area a bit like a sealed container which has two drain holes at either end. Both drain holes were clogged with dirt, leaves and other vegetation. Once cleared out,the water drained away. This was the source of the sloshing sound because the "container" runs the whole width of the car and is quite deep. On the passenger side, in the middle of this area is a raised air vent that provides the air directly above the cabin air filter. When the water level got too high it overflowed into the air vent. The way to prevent this would be to immediately remove any build up of leaves in this area. I left a bucket load of Fall debris sit there for months and this was the end result. A lesson learned, but not exclusive to this model.

I am finishing the lease term on my 2017 Accord Hybrid, and have just purchased the car. It has been completely trouble free for 3 years. The car sips fuel, has a solid, quiet ride, and some features that are nicer than on more luxury oriented cars (for example, when signaling for a right turn, the screen shows the view behind/beside you, which is great for avoiding byciclists. Turn is big, seats are comfy, and I don’t mind the touch screen. There are some collision avoidance features that a little aggressive, but I’d rather have too much protection instead of too little. As I’d read many places, the car does have a bit of a growl that is out of place when accelerating firmly on the freeway. Overall, I would definitely buy this car again. It replaced my 2016 Toyota Camry hybrid, which was totaled in an accident. The cars are very comparable in quality, but the Honda got better mileage and was more comfortable, with a few extra features. Both are great cars, but if I had the choice to make agin, it would be the Honda, just by a bit.
