Test Driver Ratings & Comments
Acceleration comments
A little reluctant to leave the start line without a modest amount of two-pedal overlap and even then, it feels a little torque-challenged. Smooth upshifts at 5,800-rpm redline so I didn't attempt a manual-shifting run. This truck isn't slow, but it doesn't quite set my hair afire with a manly V8 burble or light the rear tires ablaze with the traction control shut off.
Braking comments
Typical pickup truck dive and rear wiggle under full-ABS stop conditions, and the distances weren't very confidence-inspiring, either. After a short initial idle-stroke, the pedal is intuitive and easy to modulate.
Handling comments
Slalom: This truck abhors rapid transitions and punishes it with intense ESC intrusion, causing the entire nose to dive on alternate sides as the brakes stab on and off. Only slightly better results in RWD with traction control disabled. Skid pad: Here, again, this truck isn't meant to perform well on a skid pad, but it's really obvious. Even before the tires begin to howl, the brakes start grabbing and releasing, causing the whole truck to porpoise "yelp, yelp, help" all the way around the circle. Steering feels natural and aptly weighted, giving some indication of the punishment the front tires are experiencing.
