15 SEATER? NOT FOR HUMANS
Rusty Shackleford, 4/21/2017
Looked forward to the detailed test drive of the 15 passenger extended length high roof wagon. While the diesel engine performance, overall drivability and front driver and passenger seats did not disappoint, the rear seats (remaining 13 seats) were a disaster. What was ford thinking putting in these tiny narrow seats? Who is the 15 passenger rated for? small kids or tiny half human sized beings? Keep in mind that the rear most bench seat has the wheel well making the outboard seats unusable for any passenger. So count those two seats out, that leaves the total passenger count (including driver) to 13, then look at the single seats in each row, I am 5'10" medium build and I couldn't possible fit in those tiny narrow toy seats, I can see a small child or small person being able to use those two seats so count those out for adult passenger use. This leaves us with 11 remaining seats. Keep in mind that rest of the rear passenger seats are very narrow and if you want to seat 3 adults in each row like ford rates it, you will be practically sitting on each others laps. Only hope is to remove all the rear passenger seats and find aftermarket seats solution (if thats available). For that reason the preconfigured passenger version of fords Transit van (wagon) doesn't make sense to anyone that is going to actually use the 15 seats for adult passengers. I was extremely disappointed in ford for this. Bottomline, if you are looking for cargo version or perhaps wagon version to later install custom seats in (or have it customized), its a great van as far as drivetrain and driving characteristics are concerned. But if you are looking for a turn key solution for a large family or shuttle business where you need to be able to utilize close to full seat occupancy, this is going to be a huge disappointment.
Love my Ford Transit Wagon 15 Passenger
Nick Yager, 12/8/2017
I bought this vehicle because I needed to replace my 12 passenger Ford E350 which had been a great vehicle for our large family and business. We upgraded to the 15 passenger so that we could remove some rear seats for expanded cargo. The kids and grandkids love the reclining receipts and we have been very happy with the vehicle overall.
Ford Transit out shines Mercedes Sprinter
Jeremy, 8/24/2017
Better vehicle and a better value than it's competition. Surprising that Ford let Sprinter dominate the US market for so long before introducing the Transit. After my first 800 mile drive from the dealer to home, I really enjoyed the diesel version and it's smooth transmission. Even with the high roof, it tracks well through the mountains without much wind impact until after 70 MPH. It's hard to believe the 350 HD drives so nice without the hard bumps that you would expect to feel with a unloaded dually.

More about the 2017 Ford Transit Wagon

With SUVs and minivans dominating the market for family haulers, it seems clear that large numbers of consumers have abandoned the full-size van market. But for those who need extra seating and cargo room, the 2017 Ford Transit Wagon is a practical option. With an extensive choice of length, height, payload capacity and seating options, the Transit Wagon can be configured for business use or for transporting up to 15 passengers, making it one of the most versatile competitors in its class.

Having replaced the previous full-size E-Series van in 2015, the European-style Transit Wagon is still in its first generation in the U.S., so changes for 2017 are relatively minor. A 3.7-liter V6 engine is now standard on heavy-duty models with dual rear wheels, there are a few new color choices and wheel designs, and the base audio system now comes with four speakers. New options include heated leather or cloth front seats, power seat adjustments for cloth seats, a walk-through center console and power-retractable running boards.

Unlike the old full-size vans, the Transit Wagon sports an interior that is reminiscent of a minivan. The dashboard and control layouts are logical, materials are surprisingly attractive and standard equipment includes air-conditioning, comfortable seats and a rearview camera. Most of the latest technical features are either standard or available, including the Ford Sync 3 infotainment interface. Standard-wheelbase models provide seating for eight, with an option to increase that to 10, but the long-wheelbase versions can be configured to hold 15 passengers.

Standard power comes from a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Also available are a 310-hp turbocharged EcoBoost V6 and a turbocharged 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel that puts out 185 hp. All models drive the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Transit Wagon is built with unibody construction, unlike the body-on-frame vans of old, which gives it better handling and a relatively smooth, quiet ride. True, it's not a small vehicle, but most drivers will find it easy to maneuver once they have a few miles under their belts. Similarly, most buyers will likely find the standard V6 to be adequate, but those who regularly move a lot of passengers and cargo might want to consider the higher-output turbocharged engine.

Fuel economy for the Transit Wagon with the standard 3.7-liter V6 is EPA rated at a combined 16 mpg (14 city/18 highway). And the optional turbocharged EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 is rated similarly at 16 mpg combined (15 city/19 highway).

The Transit Wagon can be ordered in standard- and long-wheelbase versions, with roofs in low, medium and tall heights, and in XL and XLT trim levels. The XL comes fairly well equipped, but the XLT adds useful features like cruise control, rear air-conditioning, a CD player and full-length carpeting. Whatever your preference, let Edmunds help you find the 2017 Ford Transit Wagon that best meets your needs.
