Used 2003 Ford Excursion Consumer Reviews
Excursion Rocks!
I average 19 mpg on the highway, 16 stop & go, and can carry everybody and their stuff! This is a terrific vehicle, and the diesel is quieter than I expected.
Best SUV Around
This is my second Excursion. We have traveled nationwide with a family of six and all were comfortable. It handles great in mountains or deserts. I get about 20 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in town.

I LOVE my Excursion!
The Excursion is so comfortable! The 7 people in my family, including 2 teenagers, fit wonderfully in this vehicle. Road trips are a breeze! It takes a little time to get used to parking this beast, but it's well worth the effort. I am saddened that this vehicle will not be made after 2005.
Luxury at it's best
Since I bought my 2002 Ford Excursion, I love to travel in it, because of it's safety rating, and comfort. It handles good, and has power to spare. The gas mileage isn't to bad for the size and weight of the vehicle. It is big enough to carry my whole family in comfort, along with anything we may want to take along. It has the power to pull most trailers without any problem. Suspension a little stiff on rough roads, but still rides good.
2003 Excursion 6.0L
I purchased this vehicle because the other one's, Hummer,Suburban,Explorer, etc. have all downsized the interior room. My head hit the ceiling on almost all the other ones.
The Greatest SUV Out There
My experience with vehicle is is all good. it takes the road like it onws it. ther is nothing like the Excursion.idrove the sub. and the deni xl they don't even compare.
Diesel
This SUV is awesome. With the 7.3 turbo diesel I am averaging 18 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. The comfort level is tops.
superior
i love my 2003 excursion. the only negative comment i can think of is its bad in gas. other then that the ride is nice the appearnace is there.
nice
Slightly underpowered but vehicle is not used to tow anything other than the family around. Very solid road feel and drives nicely on the highway.
We love Excursions!
This is our second Excursion. We love them!We have 7 kids and this is our favorite for hauling around the crew.3rd seat is most accessable of anything in its class. The load space is tops, the ride is good and the seats are great. It is heavy and doesn't get blown around, but it is tireing to steer for long distances.
Ultimate Family Limo
After 3 Suburbans and a 15 Passenger Van and a Toyota Landcruiser we have family found a true family limo. This is our 2nd Excursion. Comfort and Space. Our massive family felt confined in a suburban and like a tour crew in a 15 passenger van. The Excursion with its built in DVD is just right. Way to go Ford. What is the world are you thinking by discontinuing the Excursion after next year.
Excursion 7.3 L Diesel
My vehicle has 55,000 miles and is 3 yrs old. I am very happy with it except the problem with the 4x4 not disengaging and the ball joints needing to be replaced already. But driving it to the south is great; a joy to drive. Got 18.2 miles to the gallon.
Ultimate Sportsman's Vehicle
Unbeleivable vehicle for any large family or any sportsman! Able to carry multiple dog kennels and massive amounts of hunting gear or full salmon size coolers and massive amounts of geaar in addition to multiple passengers in comfort!
Great SUV
This SUV is a great family truck for those who tow. Room is a big plus. Mileage is good in the diesel. Avgerage 18 highway 16 city. Towing avg is 12.
Love my Excursion
This is the second Excursion we have owned. Our first model had the 7.3 diesel engine and was a 2000 model. We loved it too but was a bit noisey. After the new 6.0 diesel was available we opted for this newer model. This is a traveler's dream. We average about 18mpg overall (includes intown miles). It is very comfortable and can get our entire family and "stuff" in the vehicle. It also pulls the hound out of a cattle trailer. Love my Excursion!
Great Truck
Pay extra for the Diesel Engine, it is worth for the fuel economy. The new Turbo 6.0 engine is Fabulous and surprisingly quiet.
All the room we need
We bought this truck when we had our third child. I had never owned a truck but I loved my husband's Expedition. In fact, I wanted to buy an Expedition because I thought the Excursion was too big. But my husband wanted us in the biggest vehicle possible in case of an accident. Turns out I am very happy with the Excursion because of the amount of room behind the third row seat. With a large baby stroller back there and a full load of groceries or Christmas presents, I use up the entire space. Not to mention the times I am carrying an unusual load like rented tables and chairs or landscaping plants. I can get everything I need on one trip, saving me time, aggravation and gas.
TOWS THE LOAD
This is a great truck! The only real gripe I have is it rides and sounds like a truck on the inside. I had a eddie bauer expedition with the air suspension before and it had a great ride. This truck has way to many creaks and rattles. The gmc denali doesn't have creaks and rattles!
Please tell Ford to continue these
This is a great vehicle to own
The King
I have a 2000,2001,2002,and the new 2003 Excursion.I love all of them each year they get better. All of mine are limited excursions, and each with 600 horse power,so speed and power is not an issue. If the stop making them I will be very dissiponted.

WHAT A TRUCK!
We just bought our 2003 Excursion, traded in a whimpy burb for it. Outstanding is the word to describe this vehicle. The diesel is awesome. This thing starts in -10 degree weather with no problem. We also love the dvd player.
user impressions
The ride is not as good as expected. The seat sits a little higher than the F-250 truck making it more like driving a commercial vehicle. It is rough riding on rough interstate highway. The turning radius is wide. The vehicle does not drive as good as a Suburban but the engine, fuel mileage (18 mpg or better at 72 mph), size of tank, visibility is excellent. The engine runs great, although the first factory re-programing made it run rough and slower than it did before. This is a nice vehicle, a better value than the Suburban. A better seat and driver's position, with a smaller turn radius, would make it great.
My Big Black X
This vehicle does it ALL. I sold my RAM2500 4wd V10 and got this. The ram was good, THIS THING IS GREAT. Towing, fuel economy, power...AWESOME!! My wife was terrified to drive it at first (used to her 5 series BMW) but now I have to fight with her to drive it. She loves it. The only problem is I can't fit it in the garage. Oh well. After I lift it, it wouldn't fit in there anyway. Buy one if you're in the market.

Fell in Love
We love the reliability, sturdiness and style of our 2003 Excursion. It just feels like you’re in good hands while on the road. Although old, all the leather and trimmings are still in excellent condition. Over 500 miles on one tank of gas, 15.5 mpg.

My first fullsize SUV
I went from a 99 explorer to this and I just love it. I have taken 8 people on a trip and all of them enjoyed the room and the DVD player. The gas mileage is not that bad as everyone would think.
Like the size, but it isn't for everyone
Love the loadspace, gas pedal and overall size/comfort inside. With 1500 miles we lost our coolant -the factory didn't quite get the hose clamp right - a damaged hose and several days later back owning the road. Can't get past a gas station without a stop -around $65 these days if you let it get to a 1/4. Great hauler. Not for anyone on a budget -pretty sure, as an owner group, we are keeping OPEC running...
