Update: a very nice vehicle! I have almost 26 k miles on it and have had no issues. They have em a 10k mile warranty on the engine due to a recall issue but I have had no issues. The car runs great and is very quiet and comfortable. I fill up about every 12 days so I'm loving the MPG's! Very comfortable and quiet. Started with a full tank of gas from the dealer. I have driven 1,263 miles in just over a month, have only filled up once (9.6 gallons) and still have just over 1/4 tank (147 mi. to empty).

Heartbreaking Disappointment

I've had my Escape Titanium PHEV for less than 3 years. I really wanted to love this car, but twice this year I jumped in my car and it refused to start. The first time, I had it towed and Ford replaced the 12 volt battery. The second time - 4 months later- the tow truck driver unplugged the battery for a few minutes and the car started. Luckily, I was home both times. I purchased a PHEV to save on gas and take road trips without worrying about finding charging stations. Now, there's no way I feel safe taking a road trip if I have to worry about the car not starting. I've had Fords for the last 25 years, but I don't want to go back to a full gas and don't want a 100% EV either, so I'll have to go to another car company to find a more reliable SUV PHEV.

Excellent PEV option

This car serves me in electric mode for most of my commute around the city. When I need to drive long distances it saves me time compared to EV cars which require extended charging time every few hundred miles. I also feel comfortable driving to unpopulated areas where charging stations are limited or in cold winter, when I can reuse heat from engine rather than electric battery. It is not a small car and has lot of space and reasonable comfort. No quality issues so far. Another great American product.

most of the negative reviews seem to be folks in cold climates complaining about suboptimal range and lack of AWD...not sure why anyone who lives in snowy/freezing weather would buy this....I have 25k miles on mine, only issue has been faulty ABS hydraulic control unit which was replaced under warranty, no fuss

Miles galore

OK, I got the Escape because my CR-V needed a new home. I DO NOT regret this decision. So far (1 month in) I have put on 600 miles, all but 33 are electric. The 110 VAC plug-in cord that came with the Escape is slow, but I can charge overnight with the Ford app. The interior is smaller than the CR-V, true, but it is still useful for all my current needs. I had a small carrier that I needed previously and It fits just fine on the Escape. My dog loves the back area and the granddaughter can ride in her car seat....love the reclining back seat and all the leg room for my 6'5" son and his wife. True, the plug-in electric range is shorter than the RAV4, but my needs rarely require me to charge more than 80% anyway. And when the ICE runs, I barely hear any difference in the cabin - electric motor or gas engine are very quiet. I did not get any sun roof (to leave open in the rain) or leather/sound/light/feature upgrades, but there's enough on the huge screen to keep me entertained. Not a techie, either, so talking to Alexa is not a thing with me. Others may like communicating with her, and might find her useful. First cold weather and the car is doing well. However, the engine will start to warm itself, to (I guess) preserve the integrity of its function even if the battery is fully charged. This seems to happen when Temps are freezing, less than 32 deg. F.
