Used 2022 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Blown Away
I've driven a lot of SUV's and CUV's as rentals, this is the first one I've owned - and, my first Ford. (Our last five purchases were a KIA, an Audi, a couple of VW's, and a Honda.). Very impressed by the build quality. The interior materials are above average. Ride/handling is excellent for a vehicle in its class. Transition between gas and electric is very smooth. I'm easily getting 40+ miles on battery-only off a full charge, on daily commutes. I'm looking forward to summer and dome longer road trips.

A real gas mizer
This is a brilliant little SUV. I've been driving it for over 2 years and so far, it's 90% electric and 10% gas. It works fine in the Canadian winter. Those manufacturers that convinced you that you need all wheel drive are way off the mark. Unless you spend your days ploughing up mountain backroads in knee deep snow, a set of snow tires is all you need. My trips to the dealership are twice a year for the tire change and once a year for an oil change. In summer, I average 42 miles per charge. In the winter, I lose about 1/3 of the range due in large part to the lack of a heat pump which would be a real improvement that Ford should consider. I measured the energy out of my wall fixture for a full charge at 120 volts and it equals 11 kWh. I'm sure there is some loss on charging due to heating and the inverter, so I estimate the battery ends up with about 10 kWh after a charge. The safety features are excellent. Lane centering works great as does adaptive cruise. In Canada, the vehicle comes with a spare which is mounted over the 12 volt accessory battery in the trunk.

Perfect family car
The electric range is great. We did over 1500 miles without putting gas in it due to mostly driving on electric. The seats are comfortable on a long journey and the 360+ package is great with the adaptive cruise control in traffic. The handling is good for an SUV and better than the competitors I test drive - that being said, you always sacrifice a lot by getting an SUV over a normal car due to the higher center of gravity so this isn’t going to replace my BMW convertible for canyon runs anytime soon. The mpg on gas only driving isn’t great (35mpg average) but we only use that on the occasional long journey so it’s not the end of the world.

Still gets tax rebate
I have now had my car for 4 months. Before this I had a regular Escape, but traded it in for this one due to gas mileage. Used to fill my car up every 5-6 days, and now fill up about once a month. Go between 700-800 miles before need to get gas, except on the 1 long highway trip we did. Love the red color, much prettier than my old Escape. My friends say the back seat is comfortable. Seats heat up quickly and the heated steering wheel is great on cold mornings. It charges up overnight on my home electricity, no need to update. A little disappointed that doesn’t have AWD but did fine driving up Santiam Pass in Oregon with good snow tires. Do like the fact that car still qualifies for federal electric car rebate. Really like the car and enjoy driving it.

2022 Titanium great for around town driving!
Owned the car for 4 months averaging 500 miles per month. Most driving consists of daily trips of less than 30 miles. Haven't filled up the tank yet, and it looks like I'm burning gas at a rate of about 1 gal/month. Have no complaints about the vehicles performance esp. like adaptive cruise and lane keeping options. They help me keep a safe distance from cars ahead of me and in my own lane. The interior is very comfortable with more than ample head and leg room. Even in the back seat! With the battery weight helping to keep the center of gravity low, he car's handling features are better than my old (2004) Subaru Outback Sport. For longer trips we like to keep off interstate highways and on more rural roads that are less likely to have charging stations. So until the EV infrastructure is in place for rural areas, the plug in hybrid offers the best of both worlds - all electric around town and hybrid mode for longer trips. Finally the Ford Escape's battery range is much greater than most other PHEVs (other than the Toyota RAV4 Prime). Oh, and I forgot to mention the $6,500 tax rebate.
