Used 2006 Cadillac DTS Consumer Reviews
Finally a Real Winner
I love to drive this car. After having several Cadillacs, none of them came close to this one. Its room, comfort, and performance are all up there and it's priced right!
First Cadillac, won't be the last...
I bought my 2006 DTS from a private party. It had been driven primarily as a work car by his wife. It had been fairly well taken care of as evidenced by the fit and finish of the vehicle and overall condition considering it was 19 years old when I bought it and had been driven 135,000 miles. The original body and paint were very good, and other than some minor surface rust/light bubbling of paint in a couple of spots, it was basically rust free, which is unusual for Iowa. Interior was pretty good, other than a couple of minor tears on the passenger seat that had been fixed, and the plastic housing for the driver's seat controls being cracked. Everything works on the car including the cruise control, stereo/CD player, all power options etc... The wheels and tires are in good condition. The only known issues with the car when I bought it were that the air conditioning needed to be recharged, there was an issue with the exhaust, and there was a power steering fluid leak. With all of that being known, I paid $3,000 cash for the car after a fairly long test drive based on how good it ran. After I got it home, I had a shop I trusted recharge the AC, fix the exhaust issue, inspect the car, perform an oil change, and replace the front sway bar and sway bar links. The total for that service was $1,300. I had another shop address the power steering fluid leak about a month later. They replaced the rack and pinion, power steering fluid hose, and did a 4 wheel alignment and balance the tires. Cost for that repair was $1,200. The only other thing I've done to the car was a transmission fluid flush that ended up costing about $200. The car now drives and rides like a dream. I've taken it on 2 long drives across the State without hesitation and have been averaging 22 mpg. For a big car, it handles remarkably well. Even with what I spent on maintenance which also included new front tire rod ends for the costs previously noted, I still feel like I got a good deal. For me, it's a reliable 2nd vehicle, it's paid for, I get a lot of compliments on it, and with routine maintenance it has a lot of life left in it for a nearly 20 year old car with 140K miles on it.
