Used 2019 BMW 5 Series Consumer Reviews
Tech needs some work
Microsoft Outlook is not supported in the USA. This is an issue for me as I do a lot of work from the car. It is supported in Europe so, I can only assume that BMW didn't want to pay a licensing fee to Microsoft for the USA. Silly me, I thought southern CA was a big market for BMW. I am also very disappointed in the "preconditioning" of the climate controls. They tell you that you can set the climate controls from your cellphone app but, you must have some power available in the hybrid battery or have the car plugged in. Turns out that you must have at least 30% power available. The car can only go about 13 miles of electric drive on a full charge so, how much power should I have left after my 40 mile commute? Yep, maybe a few percent if I am lucky. But wait, I can set the car for "Battery Control", a feature that will hold a percentage of electric power in reserve. The problem with that is that it cannot be set as a default, I have to set the Battery Control to hold back 30+ percent of hybrid power every time I get into the car. Not exactly convenient. in addition, I am giving up about a third of my electric power for air conditioning or heating the car instead of it helping me save fuel. This is really not well thought out. I'm now getting malfunction codes so, it's back to the dealer next week. I'm also feeling a shudder when the car transitions to gas from electric. I had a Ford fusion that handled that aspect of the drive so much better. And BTW, I get 34mpg in my daily, 80 mile round trip commute (in traffic). This is with a full charge of electrons every morning. Did I mention Turbo Lag? How do you have Turbo Lag with an electric motor supplementing the drive train? I've now had this thing 24 months and 41,000 miles, I really don't like or trust this car. It's in the shop for the second time in 3 weeks. The dash cluster went out a few weeks ago, now there are wiring harness and waste gate issues. I'm getting out before my warranty expires.

Great transition 2016 to 2019!
First, let me say I loved my 2016 550i - it had every M upgrade available. The only drawback was a bit severe ride. However, the handling, power, etc were exceptional. The car was a little heavy for its size, but luxurious and fun all at the same time. I've only had the 2019 M550i xDrive for 600+ miles. During that time I don't think I've had it out of Sport Plus driving mode more than 50 miles. It is more responsive, better handling and feels faster by a goodly amount! The AWD is simply amazing. Point it in any direction - forward, around curves, corners whatever and it tracks like its on RAILS! Huge calipers stop it just as well as the twin turbos propel it forward. A perfect car! My only complaint - offset by the new Massage feature - is that the seats have gotten a bit 'stiff'. The 2016 felt more 'plush' but it didn't have both cooling and heating.

540i 2019 love it
Oh, I enjoy every second driving. Super luxury, super acceleration, reasonable mpg even on sports mode. And best - I got it for 100 less lease on memorial day
The good bad and the ugly
I purchased my 2019 540I in June. The power and handling is amazing. I had a 2017 Mercedes E 300 which only barely had adequate power. The ride is very comfortable. I have had issues with the back up camera. It works about 75% of the time. The dealer cannot find anything wrong with it. Even after I showed them a video of it not working. There is a message on the dashboard that says Emergency call system malfunction. This blocks out all other information from being displayed including the odometer. The dealer said this is a battery that is back ordered in Germany. They have no idea how long it will take until they will get it. I am trading this car in by the end of the year. I will probably get another Mercedes with a bigger engine.

Sorry I bought it
I drove a 530i for 17 years and the 2019 530e doesn't measure up. The battery drains rapidly in town, is better on the freeway. It takes 5 - 8 hours to charge. Noisy when accelerating. Side mirrors block view. Prettiest car out there (Cashmere Silver Metallic color). I'm trading it in as soon as I can. At first opportunity I traded it in.
