Okay, spoke with the Porsche experts. Their advice is that they have rarely seen a RMS (rear main seal) issue in the past few years with Boxsters at least, since all the problem children (earlier cars) have been taken care of already. As for the IMS, intermediate shaft bearing, issue, one still has to be careful. They felt that the earlier cars, say 2000-2008, are safer in that if a bearing ... Read More
Wow... thanks for the post. I was actually in the market for a new Boxster, the Spyder to be exact. (Getting rid of my tank, a 2008 BMW 7 Series). Like all my cars, I was considering getting used too. But I always search the Net for issues cars have and also to see how the manufacturer and dealer backs up the car, expecially on major design defects (such as the ... Read More
I dont' know where you are in your purchase, but one reason that you can buy a low-mileage Boxster for less than a new Z is Porsche's infamous M96 engines. If you go to the Porsche enthusiast sites (and another forum right on here), you can find story after story about low-mileage engine failures, and -- in many cases for cars out of warranty -- Porsche's refusal to pick up part ... I plan to purchase a new 2008 Boxster S within the next couple of weeks. Has anyone had any experiences in buying a new Boxster. I noted that the 2007 closeout discounts were around 10-15% . However , with the bad economy and the fact that Porsche delayed the introduction of the 2009 models for 7 months, I 've heard talk of 25%-30% discounts being given. I've also noticed that the ... This is a worthwhile forum for anyone wanting to purchase a Porsche built from 1997 through 2008 that contains the infamous M96 engine subject to IMS failure. I have read many such episodes as the one posted above. I have read two episodes where owners had this happen on two different cars that they owned. I have read an account of a failure as low as 6,000 miles. I have read ... Read More
I posted this same message before, and did not get any replies, I like to try my questions again, please advise some answers. Thanks! I purchased a left-over brand new 2008 Boxster, and I love to drive it. A couple questions as a new porsche owner: 1. what can I expect from the wind deflector ? it's not cheap, i called some local Porsche parts stores and they quote it over ... Read More
I purchased a left-over brand new 2008 Boxster, and I love to drive it. A couple questions as a new porsche owner: 1. what can I expect from the wind deflector ? it's not cheap, i called some local Porsche parts stores and they quote it over $500 plus the labor to install it. And if I decide to buy it, is there an online store for it for a lower ... Read More

Mr. Rogers, I think you're off a little with the Certified Pre-Owned warranty and how long it lasts. I'm pretty sure, it's 2 extra years to the factory warranty, which is 4 years and 50,000 miles. This is based on the in-service date and when the factory warranty expires. I doubt there are many or any 2002 Boxsters that are CPO. They would be expiring in 2008, unless they were sold ... Best handling roadster is the Boxster. I've driven a new Miata and S2000 after driving a couple of different Boxsters, 2008 and 2005, both S and base models. My daily driver is an RX-8, so I know a little about well handling cars. The Miata was too light, but great fun to toss into corners. It's light weight hurt it's traction as I was able to make the tires squeel without ... Read More
$42K sounds like a lot for an '06 S in this current economy. I've been price shopping Boxsters since the summer and have posted dozens of Porsches and their prices on my blog. http://mannyljr.typepad.com/lizardslair/ My current front page is a list of Best in Price for Boxsters 2005 - 2008. It's mostly based on autotrader.com, plus a little Ebay. I have a 2006 S with 22K miles on my list for ... Read More
I've been shopping Boxsters for a couple of months now. If you haven't already bought it, definitely get competing bids from different dealers for your business. Porsche sales are 50% under their record sales month of a year ago. Also, there is a glut of late model used Boxsters that will save you tens of $1000's of a new car. You can visit Porsche's web site to search all the dealers ... Read More
So like every one else I see what is going on in the financial markets. I am looking to lease a Boxster and yes the deposit, factor, residual, miles are all important. While the dealers say rates are not important and factor and residual are the key elements I disagree. Market rates help to set the factor. My sales guy is either playing dumb or clueless on this topic. I am ... Read More
Here's the information that you're looking for, bleon. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2008 Porsche Boxster S with a manual transmission and 10,000 miles per year are .00250 and 62%, respectively. These days, when somebody says Porsche is a giant killer, you think they're talking about the world of finance. Porsche's recent takeover of Volkswagen is surely a far more amazing story of corporate balance sheets than all the news from Detroit that fills the news headlines. Welcome las3. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a non-S 2008 Boxster without Tiptronic with 15,000 miles per year are .00290 and 61%, respectively. The residual value for a lease with only 12,000 miles per year would be 2% higher. Car_man Host Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences Forum
Hi guttersn1pe. The best way to get a good deal on the Boxster that you are interested in is to negotiate as low a selling price as possible on it and then have the dealer calculate your monthly payment using its buy rate lease money factor. You can look up this car's dealer invoice price in the New Vehicle Pricing section of Edmunds.com. Once you know what the invoice price is, ... Read More
What's up Doc? Unfortunately, the fact that you are a loyal Porsche customer will not have much impact upon your ability to get a good deal on the new Boxster that you are interested in. Porsche is not currently running any special loyalty promotions that I am aware of. You may be able to negotiate a slightly better selling price than someone off the street would be able to get if ... Read More
No problem, wmsc998. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2007 Porsche Boxster without Tiptronic and with 15,000 miles per year are .00310 and 55%, respectively. Car_man Host Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences Forum
I will be completing a lease contract on a 2004 Boxster at the end of this year and am interested in a 2008 model. Assuming a 48 month lease period, standard mileage allowance, no additional options, and top credit tier, what monthly payment range would be considered optimal for me as a repeat customer? Thanks, The Doc
Hi Michael. As you suspected, Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor for a lease of all of its models is currently .00310 for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier. Your lease payment for this car will vary quite a bit depending upon how long you lease it for and what mileage allowance you need. If you provide me with both of these variables, I should be able ... Read More
Am I reading this corectly? You are considering, a base Boxster with Tiptronic for $1,000 per month? Good grief. My last two cars have been Porsches, half of my immediate family has worked for Porsche and even I find this absurd. A base 911 C2 6-speed with a few key options can be leased for around $1,000 per month, $0 down. And it's 10 times the "Porsche" as a Tiptronic base ... Read More
At only $800 more than the 3.2 liter, 280 hp 2006 Boxster S, the 2007 with a 295 hp 3.4 liter engine and TPMS standard is a heck of a good deal, in Porsche terms. After all, last fall I paid the equivalent of $6,000 to get the extra 0.2 liters and 30 horsepower bump of going from a 911 to a 911 "S". Not that I needed it, but one ... Read More
