The Porsche 2009 PDK is THE best 911 I have had. I have owned it now for 2 years. I have come out of a 97 Twin turbo, then a 996 GT3, Then lastly a 997.1 GT3. I was GOING to buy a 2008 GT3RS. It only had AC. I went on a whim to drive the 911 Carrera S PDK. I was BLOWN away. Its faster than any GT1 motor ... Read More
Perhaps someone can help with this one. 2004 911 cab. Every so often the radio simply does not work. Everything lights up but no sound, volume control does not work, cannot change stations, etc. Usually (not always) after a few minutes all is normal. Twice the word "Porsche" in the face plate kept blinking on and off and it made a sound as id it were trying to change a CD. ... Read More
On a whim, decided to re-visit some old threads. Forgot about how much fun this one was. But now that both the GT-R and 911 are almost completely sold out of 2009 models and updating for 2010, I thought it would be nice to recap what happened with this competition to now. We spent a lot of time talking about speed. There seemed to be some confusion between speed and racing ... Read More
For what they cost and how they perform, a Porsche is not good value. I've driven many and am not impressed Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just as are those qualitative factors that individual consumers choose as their priorities (or not!). By the way I drive a CTS-V and will be getting a 2009 one in the fall. How ironic is it that you mention that you're buying ... Read More
Regarding your questions #1 & #6, my 2006 911 is GT silver with black interior. I saw a silver with tan interior when I bought mine a couple of months ago. The're out there, but black on black has been very popular for awhile. I don't know why. I believe PSM is standard on all 911's. Don't know if it was available on pre 997's. PASM is an option on the ... Read More
I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). First, you should be aware that 2004 was the last year of the 996 design, not 2003. Supposedly, Porsche revised the rear main seal / crankcase design for the 997 model (2005+) but there have still been a few isolated reports of leaks. According ... Read More
I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). Has anyone else heard of those issues? Have they been addressed in the 2004 (and newer) models? He thinks the the '95-98's have excellent engines but ideally I'd like the newer body style. This is my first Porsche purchase and any advice is appreciated. ... Read More
Hello, The Porsche 996 in 1999 had an engine casting problem. Porsche has replacment many of these engines. Some have a rear main seal (RMS) leak but Porsche has also replaced these seals at now cost. I just bought a 2004 911 Turbo Cab and it is impressive. As with any series of cars (such as 996; 1999-2004) you are always better off buying the last year.

of just trying a Porsche for fit. Now I'm a tall guy, and even taller from the hips up - like someone 6'8". I've owned Mazda's as sports cars, the last a 2004 RX8 I got new for just $24K - my daughter shifts it now as her daily driver - now with almost 70K miles on it. Bought the RX8 mainly b/c I fit in it - no other sports car ... Read More
Thanks so much to everyone so far for the advice. I am so torn about the car. I feel like buying the full size Range Rover is so much more logical. On the other hand, I really want to get the Porsche. Ironically, my wife thinks I am being ridiculous. She says just buy the Porsche. The price is an obstacle for me. I buy my cars outright and I have ... Read More
Greetings: Virtually unchanged in 40 years? Side by side there is no comparison structurally or functionally between a 1965 911 and a 2008 C2S. A water cooled engine should be the first clue. Check out a 2004 996 and a 2005 997... quite different machine. Porsches' motto has always been " Evolution not Revolution ". 60 some years of racing experience and a hugely profitable automobile company in Porsche AG would ... Read More
You are certainly welcome to your perogative to drive an American classic rather than a high performance sports car. But I think your assumption that you have to break the speed limit by a factor of two to enjoy the latter is incorrect. Over the past 2+ years, every time I go somewhere, I have a choice of a 2004 Acura TL 6-speed and a 2005 911 C2S Cab. During that ... Read More
Chromedome: I agree entirely. I have a few more years on you (about to turn 63) and one more Porsche, just acquired my 5th. Had a '69 911 back in the early '70s, then a new 914, then a '73 911 targa, then nothing for 25 years. Got married, bought houses, put 2 kids through college, etc. Leased a 2000 Boxster new and drove it for 3 years, then got out ... Read More
No way I'd put that on a 2004 911. Porsche engineers do not leave much HP on the table and I doubt you'd gain anything whatsoever except more noise and more maintenance to do. Drop in "special" filters without modification of intake and exhaust is a waste of money and potentially troublesome IMO.
How do you like the car. I really want to get the 2004 911 aniversary but they are asking 60k. The car has 13,600 miles and it looks like new. The seats don't even look like someone has sat in them. Have you had any problems. What will you do about the warranty once the factory one runs out. Have you priced a 3rd party extended because the dealer told me ... Read More
Help. I am looking at my first porsche and can only afford about $60K. I am considering a 2004 911 Carerra Anniversary Edition with 14,000 miles and I can get it for $60K out the door and it is certified pre-owned. I believe this gives me another 3 years of warranty and up to 100,000 miles (likely the 3 years will pass first). Is this a fair deal. From a reliability ... Read More
Hi: I work about 3 blocks from where I live and have been driving another vehicle to work other than my " toys " . I have a 2004 BMW 5 series with 6300 miles on the clock and my Porsche has 2230 miles on it. The 997 is my toy and I drive it only for pleasure, on my days off and on the weekends. A new Porsche 911 was ... Read More
Gents: I presently own a 2006 997 2CS coupe, the first Carrera White 2006 in California. The release date for the 2006 997, I beleive , was Oct 1, 2006. Picked my car up September 30, 2006..but whatever. In my humble opinion, the best looking Porsche 911 ever! ( 993 very close 2nd place ). Jerseyguy1: Back in 1976 I bought my first " Porsche " It was a red, 914 2.0 liter with black seats and really cool rims. My brother is a huge fan of the 997 GT3, having had the opportunity to drive one at the Porsche track in Germany back in early September. I do not think they have yet made it to the US - at least not to my dealer. I drove a 996 GT3 at one of the performance driving schools in 2004 and also loved it. On a track. It would not be ... i'm hoping someone might be able to help me out. i was sold a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with 5K miles as a CPO car in Jan 2006. the car has had several mechanical issues that date back to the purchase date, including a shimmy in the rear, malfunction gauges, and alignment issues. these were essentially disregarded on repeat service calls (blame was placed on tire PSI, road crown, etc) until ... There is a Chinese saying, "different flowers enter different eyes," if you know what I mean. We were Audi owners until we saw Chris Bangle's "new" 5-series. In addition to the Targa and the C4, we have owned a 2004 530i for more than two years now. I love that car, inside and out. When we want some quiet time while driving, we get into the 530i. Back to Porsche: IMHO, ... Read More
redsoxgirl: My wife drives a 150-mile commute each day, 5 days a week, over the "grapevine" from Castaic to Bakersfield. We are not fast drivers (85 mph cruising). She used to drive the 2004 Targa on dry days and a 2001 Audi TT Quattro on wet (and sometimes even snowy) days. The 2006 C4 is to replace the Audi, which we sold to my brother last week. It's Porsche's fault for having so many similar names. I agree. It took me 6 months of being a pain in the ass before GEICO sent me an insurance renewal adjustment that finally correctly reflected my car. For the first 6 months, they claimed the VIN on my 2005 911S Cab was showing up in their system as a "Carrera S/GT". A non-S 911 was simply "911 Carrera". For the first ... Read More

It will likely take away sales from the 911. I'm glad that Aston Martin won't sell out and make an SUV or a sedan. check these three great articles about Aston Martin and Henrik Fisker. The 911 is a tad quieter than the Boxster at cruising, but even louder under hard acceleration. The BMW Z4 is a bit quieter, as is the SLK350. But, mind you, these are "sports cars" that share their (low-redline) engines with sedans and SUV's. I'm not trying to be critical, but that's not the type of parts sharing or driving experience I would want in my sports car for $50k+. If ... Read More
love2skicar1, Sorry to jump on, but it appears to me that YOU don't know what you are talking about in this instance and, rich or not, you would be foolish to come even close to paying $100k+ for a used 2004 C4S Cab. First, there is nothing particularly "rare" about a 2004 C4S other than the number of buyers that wanted to buy one new. Porsche increased its production capacity with ... Read More
Have you actually driven a 2005 S Cab and a 2004 C4S Cab back to back? I have, and I own a 2005 S Cab. Interestingly, I asked my Porsche salesman about it as well, and he agreed completely--he would even take an 2005 S Cab over a 2004 Turbo Cab, which I found surprising. It is an entirely different experience driving a 997 than a 996, from the apperance of ... Read More
I'm sorry but you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to car values. I'm quite aware that the technology is better in the 997, but the rarity of a Porsche has more to do with resale value than the technology. Depreciation is by far the largest expense in owning a modern sports car. Check out the resale prices of 911's on the net over the years. Those ... Read More
Are you NUTS????. $104k-$108k for a USED C4S?? (vs. a "brandy" new 2005 Cab S) Your dealer must think you are a rich fool with the "value due to rarity" pitch. In every conceivable way the new 997 911 Cab is a better car than the 2004 C4S. Engineering, performance, interior quality, exterior styling, etc. And that's the base 997. Jump to the 2005 997 "S" version and you are that ... Read More
At the risk of sounding argumentative, I respect your right to personal preferences, but you I can't agree with your assessments. There are only two cars in the aforementioned group or, for that matter, sold in America, that are ... Read More
1) Fiberglass weighs less than metals and is more resistant to dents. 2) Not to be rude, but do you have facts to support your assumption that Ferrari and Porsche owners won't consider the 2006 Corvette Z06? 3) Has no record in international racing? The Corvette doesn't have the racing heritage of a 911, but Porsche doesn't back the new 997 in racing. The following is from Corvettemuseum.com "[On July 10th, ... Read More
Mine has been great, a real trooper. Only problems were: 1. Previous owner's neglect 2. Stupid electrical glitches, like car alarm, electric door locks.
