I had the same problems, as so many reported, with my 2011 Equinox. My dealer (Jimmy Britt Chevrolet of Greensboro, GA) corrected everything, however, knowing I went through so much, Jimmy Britt replaced my 2011 with a 2012 for $3000.00. We have the same problems with shifting and now starting to stall. Our dealer says they weren't able to duplicate the problem. My husband and I are on disability and bought the car because of the comfort and MPG. The highest we have ever gotten is 25. The car has 65000 miles on it and uses a quart of oil every 1,000 miles Does t have a leak and is serviced reguarly every 3000 miles. Using mobil 5w30 syn. Like it requires. Re: Steering Noise - It's gone!!! They replaced the Electric Motor and Gear, now it works just like it is supposed to, QUIET!!! Don't let your dealer or GM give you the run-a-round!! Had it fixed at Capitol Chevrolet in Salem, Oregon. They did a fantastic job, found the problem in 30 minutes and ordered the parts. The part number for the Motor and Gear is, 20857570.

So, I was getting ready to purchase a new Equinox. I was going to trade in my truck. Well after reading this thread, I have opted not to purchase this vehicle. Blame the problems and the poor customer service I have read about on here. Personally it's not so much the car, it's more about the piss poor service people are receiving. Congrats GM, you lost a potential customer.

Update to my saga, took car for a second opinion per GM representative to a different dealer on Thursday 2/2/2012. This dealer has a "Master" Technician on staff and he found 2 bulletins, 1 on the electric steering motor and one on the steering gear. I've had the same problems as you, bought mine in March also. It has now had four different repairs, and all of them have failed. Some worked for only a few days, and two of the repairs actually held up for a few months and several thousand miles, but they ALL eventually failed. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING AS IT HAPPENS. Schulz, My 2011 Nox has been in the shop twice in 2 weeks for new actuautors. The last few days they had to replace the valve actuators which controls the flow of oil. This is after they changed the timing chain and gear and the actuators there. It seems they shipped the 2.4L engine with defective parts. Oil pressure and oil flow are issues Chevy knows about. I took my NEW Equinox to the dealer upon receiving the recall notice - 11195B - Product Emission - Reprogram Engine Control. Evidently, with 4,000 miles on the car, the damage had been done. Steve, you are correct about mfg/EPA reports in his post but in the last part of his post he states that any one who says they get over 22mpg is lying. That is what I have an issue with when some one makes a blanket statement without any shred of support other than a personal opinion. :)

I've had this second Equinox LTZ and just turned 7500 miles on it the other day. The mileage has been so radical that it's not funny anymore! The best was 32 mpg with the cruise control on during a trip when I had only about 3700 miles on it. The problem with the start-up noise (like you're experiencing), is that it progresses to the point that the noise can happen every day, multiple times a day, and can lead to engine stalling, check engine lights, and poor mileage. I personally experienced all of the above over the summer, had the recall done and actuators replaced, problems went away and mileage normalized, and NOW THE NOISE IS BACK. For me, by ... Read More

I read something somewhere, no idea where, somewhere in warranty documents, that if they keep if for longer than 2 hours, you get a loaner/rental. Not totally sure though. I know that if the dealer has a loaner on hand, they're more likely to let you drive it, as compared to setting you up with a rental car. They did however do the all of the work at once Replaced the camshaft exhaust acuator, replaced the camshaft intake actuator and recalibrated the ECM. Look around our forums. Every make and model has a "problems" discussion. Owners who don't have issues don't tend to post, unfortunately. I guess it's not too interesting to take 5 minutes and post "my Nox is running fine and has no issues". Edmunds uses Identifix for reliability ratings (as does MSN and other sites). The first scheduled service for your 2011 Equinox is at 10,000 miles. GM's bread and butter 4 and 6 cylinder engines are now the 2.4 and 3.6 liters respectively. They are prevalent in most compact to midsize vehicles, cars to sport utilities. The problem is GM is having horrendous problems with both of them. The 2.4 has problems with the actuators and the 3.6 with its 3 timing chains.
