Really good up front...then not so much
We bought a 2011 Jetta base model with the manual transmission. It was a decent car at first. Let me start with the Pros. Pros: Gas mileage. Stock sound system isn’t bad at all. Back seat has decent leg room. Quite ride. Cons: driver leg room is not great. No cruise control as standard option. Little items break very easily (side view mirror adjuster broke twice). At 80k we had to replace the transmission. Yes, a manual transmission where the VAST majority of the miles were hwy. Horrible. After another 10k we had an EPC code and another $1300 to replace the injector coils. The AC is weak if you’re in the south. Long story short. Avoid. Especially if it is higher miles.
League of it's own
I believe that anyone who compares the features, size, interior space and gas mileage of this car against anything in it's class they must reach the same conclusion as I did - this car is a great value. I have never owned a Volkswagen and was immediately impressed by the build quality and study feel it presents while driving and yet - great handling grace when the occasion called for it. If you are considering a Civic, Accord, Camry, Fusion, Hyundai anything, please consider the Jetta TDI and judge for yourself!

Puts a smile on your face
There aren't many cars that one can own that gives you a communal feeling like you get from owning a vw. This is my second vw purchase, despite a 6 year Mazda relationship that ended, it was time. After test driving a new focus I found this white gold metallic beauty with 17in vw rims and well that test drive put a smile back on my face. At 22k it drives perfectly with enough pick up for my daily commutes and looks really great. I didn't read too much into the cheap interior reviews, I love it, love the stereo system and satellite radio. The onl thing I can caution a new buyer on is the love bite that seems to happen when you first open the center counsel...consider yourself warned!
Lemon
I purchased the vehicle new in nov/2010. "Sportline 2.5l" with every possible option. To this date it has been seen 16 times for warranty work. Totalling well over $3,800 (not including recalls) .. IÂm terrified to own this car outside of a warranty. Cheap materials all throughout. enough said.
Really is Great for the price of good.
I purchased the car as a company car replacement and have really enjoyed it so far. I have yet to have any problems and after reading all of the reviews in the car magazines I hesitated to buy the car. It was my first VW and all I kept hearing is how they cheapened the car. I did not look at the "S" model just the SELs and I was impressed with what you get in this mid-size feeling car. It has more seat room than the Impala it replaced and all the features are really great. The car is fun to drive and feels really solid. I asked everyone I saw driving a VW whether they would buy one again and without a doubt they said they would. Very loyal customer base.
