2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
Previous VW was V6 Touareg. Was T boned and totalled so looked for VW replacement, but TREG no longer sold in USA. Went for 2023 2 row R-Line V6 with tiptronic, same engine and gear shifter as TREG . Did not want push button gear shift sold in the 2024. Benefit.. it runs on regular not premium like the TREG did, so much cheaper to drive. Completed a 2800 mile round trip down to tip … of Florida and back to IL and three months later completed a 4800 mile round trip out to Vancouver and back. Averaged 26 mpg on both. Roomy interior, comfortable ride, lots of space for passengers and cargo. No issues with electrical system as described for earlier versions, especially the 2021 reviews. Note with tiptronic, this VW drove exceptionally well on high mountain roads... dropped out of auto and into hand shifting for climbing and decents... used engine braking downhill instead of ruining my brake shoes. Headlights were fine for night driving. Safety features all worked fine. I am still under 20k miles on this Cross Sport, so its early days in car's life but thus far it has performed very well. Not as sporty as the TREG nor does it have equivalent off road capability, but for how i drive now, its a fine road car... long wheelbase, good ride, nice suspension. Hope it continues to do well. Gets lots of comments as people like its looks and color - a candy apple red. Only comlaint, it is so wide i had to get a new garage door to get in... i had measured the door opening and had VW's dimensions, but those did not include the stalks of the folded mirrors which gave me about 2" clearance per side... ok to get in, not so hot to back out !!!! No idea it was that much bigger than my TREG. Conclusion : its a very solid VW and i would buy it again based on performance thus far.
