Beautiful SUV, Great to Drive

2020 Tesla Model Y
After ordering our new Model Y we discovered several reviews that gave us pause. Several talked about the body panels not aligning and poor paint quality. We were nervous and considered we may have made a big mistake. Our Y was delivered to our home by the dealer touchless. We did a complete inspection of the vehicle and found no body alignment issues and the paint was applied … perfectly and looks phenomenal. We ordered the multi coat red which adds a little to the purchase price but it was well worth it.
This vehicle has amazing speed. More pick up and go than expected. Much better that our I.C.E. (Acura RDX) which i thought was pretty peppy. It handles beautifully. The lack of gauges, speedometer, etc. is a little disconcerting at first but after a short while, we didn't find the touch screen to be a problem or challenge.
The regenerative braking was an easy transition after driving for a short while. It is similar to a golf cart or riding lawn mower. There are different settings available to allow you to set the braking to your comfort. We chose "hold". With this setting, as you reduce pressure on the accelerator the car will begin to slow down, If you remove your foot completely the car will come to a complete stop over a reasonable distance.. You still need to monitor and gauge when and if you need to fully apply the brake. We especially like the fact that regenerative breaking actually takes the energy from the car's momentum and feeds it back to the battery. Plus less need to replace brake pads, etc.
The touch screen is a bit daunting at first but with the Tesla online tutorials, other owner's YouTube videos and the readily available manual we are mastering it with ease. We have added a matte protection screen to eliminate unwanted sun glare and fingerprints. The center console comes in piano black and is a fingerprint magnet. We had it wrapped in carbon fiber to eliminate this problem. This was done after market.
It has surprising amount of cargo space. In fact more than our Acura RDX. Plus plentiful leg and head room. The windshield offers a wide view. Only draw back is the back window is smallish which doesn't give you much area to use your rear view mirror. But with great side mirrors and sensors to advise if another vehicle or object is too close, we haven't found it to be a problem.
Bottom line - great car, lots of fun to drive, we have no regrets and highly recommend the Tesla Y if you're in the market for an all electric vehicle.
