I Wanted to Love It

2020 Mazda CX-30
I bought a CX-30 last summer after test driving the BMW X-1, Volvo XC40, Audi Q3, and Lincoln Corsair. It was loaded with the Premium Package and a lot of car and features for the money, cost about 35% less than the comparably equipped other vehicles. Here were my major likes and dislikes after owning it for 6 months:
+) Classy looking interior with a luxury look. Clean, uncluttered … instrumentation and controls.
+) Good handling and steering. Close 2nd to the BMW.
+) I found the infotainment/navigation control knob easy to use while driving.
- ) Engine was adequate but unsatisfying. 6 speed automatic was well executed but it could have used another gear of two.
- ) Build quality was good but it became evident that there was lots of cost cutting in the parts and how little things worked versus the luxury competitors.
- ) Metallic white paint looked a bit yellowish on the nose/front bumper versus the body.
- ) Electrical problems. Battery died/car would not start three different times after sitting for 15-20 minutes with accessory power on listening to radio while I are a sandwich. Dealer insisted there was not a problem with the battery or electrical system and inferred it was how I used the car. Never had a similar issue is any other car we owned.
I ended up trading out of it after 6 months for a 2021 Mercedes GLA-250, which wasn't out when I initially shopped or it would have been my hands down choice from the start. Got a great trade in price for the CX-30, Now I can eat a sandwich in my car and listen to the radio without fear of being stranded.
