2018 Lexus NX 300
We were ready to downsize and gain all the latest safety technology after years in a Nissan Armada which we dearly loved. The Lexus has underwhelmed in the following areas: 1) luggage space is very impractical. We knew it was small before we bought it but were surprised that we can't even fit a normal family's amount of groceries without either removing the luggage cover or … folding down 1/2 of the back seat. 2) the feature to wave your foot under the rear bumper to open the hatch only works about 5% of the time 3) the "beep" that sounds when you open the hatch from the key fob or from the button on the dash is much too loud inside the car; we now never open it when we're still in the car because the beep is so obnoxious 3) the angle of the accelerator pedal is awkward, leading to ankle pain on a drive of more than 30 minutes - this definitely wouldn't have shown up on a test drive. 4) the car rattles at 5k miles much more than our previous Nissans did with tens of thousands of miles 5) the infotainment system - which we read about before test driving and tried out during the test drive -- is just maddening in real-world use; the mouse pad pointer is very distracting when you're actually operating the vehicle versus using it when parked; it's just about impossible to easily view and respond to a text message that comes in while you're driving 5) the built-in Lexus navigation is absolutely worthless compared to Waze or Google Maps on our phone 6) the angle of the steering wheel - while adjustable for reach and rake - is at an awkward angle with the top of the wheel further away than the bottom to such a degree that it's difficult to find a good position that doesn't obscure part of the instruments 7) the climate controls are awkward to use and it doesn't maintain temperature very well in the auto setting 8) the gas mileage is very bad for this size of vehicle especially when driving in the city 9) the sound of the engine is not refined, it sounds strained when first accelerating. The only things we really like about the car is the overall proportions and styling - minus the horrible grille that is on every Lexus, and the fact that it has a real with gears transmission - not a CVT, which we will never own from any automaker. Shame on us that we didn't notice some of these items before purchasing, but shame on Lexus for not sweating the details on many of these. We know for a fact that their competitors do most of the things that irritate better as we also have a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T with the 10 speed automatic which is just about perfect, except for being too low to the ground. If Honda would put the 10 speed auto in the CRV instead of a CVT, we would have bought that instead of this Lexus. Thank goodness it's a lease.
