I’ve only owned this car for a few weeks, but we’ve already piled some miles on it and so far we are extremely pleased. It looks and runs better than a seven-year-old car with 100,000 miles on it has any right to do. It is extremely smooth and comfortable, gets great gas mileage, and the controls and layout make it easy for anyone in our family to jump into the driver’s seat and feel immediately comfortable. In researching other used cars in the same price range, the 2012 Corolla really stood out as especially reliable. So far, I certainly agree. (As I would with any used car, I looked for one with a documented service history and I recommend others do the same.) It is probably not the best choice if you’re after driving excitement, but as a reliable everyday driver for commuting, errands and the like, it’s hard to beat.

This is our 4th Carolla and 6th toyota product. The new Carolla is missing some options previously (automatic lights, cruze control) standard. Our new Toyota does not seem to be as zippy as our 2006 carolla. The fit and finish seems to be better & the ride is less noisy and smoother. We have always had great luck with reliability (none of our toyotas required repairs, just oil changes) & I am sure this new purchase will be the same. While I am sure the Impreza, Mazda 3, Ford focus & Chevy Cruze may be zippier and offer more options it is hard for me to give up the feeling that I have a reliable vehicle that will last for years to come. Gave our last toyota to a 17 year old family member.

Although my gut told me not to buy a Toyota especially after the sticky gas pedal/brake fail issue with them I went for the Corolla because it fit my budget. Last weekend I drive it to Ohio from DC (a one way trip of 450 miles). Things started to get bad as soon as I got outside of the city. The handling of the car is foamy at best. I believe in comfort but when it comes at the expense of not having confidence that the car will make the turn at highway speed, it is not pretty. And then there were the brakes. I decended a few hills and I smelt something burning. I pulled over to check but nothing obvious. A little later the brake pedal needed to be pressed very hard to slow down.

My wife owns this 2012 Corolla S 4A, and it has many issues that annoy me. First the front right and rear right speakers are partially blown out. Seat ergonomics are horrible. Traction control system cuts power right when you need it. It has been reliable, and has surprisingly little body roll. The steering is direct, but numb. Acceleration is poor. It will scream all the way to 6k rpm without much happening. If you are looking for something "cheap" to get you from A to B, and you are also a toyota fanboy, this is the car for you. Otherwise, buy almost anything else. A USB port in the car doesn't do much if half the speakers blow out (happened in my mother-in-laws camry as well). Buy a civic or subaru impreza in the same price range.
