I love this car!

It is probably the best car I've ever owned in terms of gas mileage, comfort, road safety and handling, and intelligence features - all combined in one. Sure, it isn't a luxury vehicle like a BMW, but in a lot of ways it is better than my 2020 BMW X3 was. Firstly, the steering is much smoother, and the suspension is so good that I don't feel most bumps on the road. Second, the auto-drive / auto-cruise control feature is phenomenal. I no longer have to worry about drifting between lanes by accident, nor speeding too much on local roads. I just set the current speed limit and let my Corolla handle the intelligent adjusting of speed for me. Lastly, the fuel mileage is unbelievable - I get 55MPG when I drive conservatively and use the intelligent cruise features. I've never gotten such great mileage out of any car I've owned!

Just got this a couple of days ago. So... this is first impressions. 1. I like this car. Fit and finish is good. 2. It starts up quiet... The engine may not instantly turn on. If you are not coming from a hybrid, this might be a bit unnerving... because, except for the dash, you might not know it has "started." 3. It has PLENTY of pep. It can literally jump off the line, because it really has two engines working at the same time... the gas one and the electric motor. Our other car is a Highlander with a V6, and I think this one gets off the line faster. 4. Mileage: I have 170 miles on the car so far. The car says MPG so far is 57-58 MPG. The gas gauge is just a fraction down from full. I like this. Normally, in my other cars, I would have stopped for a fuel stop by now. 5. Most of my driving is paved back roads... I do not like X ways... to many other drivers to anticipate what they will do. Speeds between 45 - 60. The car is quiet. It is difficult to tell when it switches from gas to electric and back. It is responsive... more so than the Highlander. These cars at this time Mar 24, are difficult to find, and they are in demand. There is a reason for that, I think. Best wishes. Update 3/11/25: No issues, great product.

Worth the Extra Over a Regular Corolla

TL;DR: I love this car. My friends and family love riding in this car. It has saved me a ton of money. The only major problem is the screen on the dash, and that is a design flaw across their entire product line. I was driving a 2020 Corolla LE when Hurricane Ida totaled the 2015 Camry my husband drives. I had avoided the Prius for a long time because I didn't believe the fuel savings paid for the price difference. However, when I saw the hybrid Corolla was only a couple thousand over the non-hybrid, I was sold. I've been driving it for 8 months. Highway and country driving is 60+ mpg, while rush hour New York City traffic is closer to 35+ mpg. With the gas prices as they are now, I'll make back what I paid over the non-hybrid before the first year of owning it. That being said, pros and cons, and I'll speak to the review above. The reviewer felt it was plain and uncomfortable over a long drive. Yes, it's not fancy inside, but that's not something I feel I need. I don't live in my car (even though sometimes it feels like it) and I find I prefer the clean, simple lines the Corolla offers.I'm usually paying more attention to what's going on around me when I'm driving than the interior beauty of the vehicle. Everyone who has been a passenger has commented that it's comfortable and quiet. It does get loud when the gas engine kicks on, but I feel that's relative to how quiet the battery runs. My 2020 Corolla was louder in the interior than the hybrid is when it's running on gas. I have 10K miles on the car, most of those from going between NY and NC. I haven't found increased time in the driver's seat to be an issue in this car, but I could also say that about the 2019 Corolla LE I drove for 10K miles in 5 weeks last summer. I do a lot of driving, in both my personal car and in rentals, all over the country. It is why I will never buy a Nissan, no matter how low the price. If the rental company tries to give me a Nissan, I will refuse it and insist on something else. Life's too short to drive a Nissan. Anyway, yes, the acceleration on EV mode is slower than the non-hybrid. I haven't found it to be an issue when entering a highway, which is when I normally need the punch. But, if that's a real issue for you, you can always turn it off. With the button by the shifter. While you're driving. Not a deal breaker, unless you're a spontaneous drag racer, in which case you're probably not reading these reviews. The brakes are touchy, and do take getting used to. There's so much I like about the car, that I'm only going to really talk about the few things that bother me. The first, and biggest, issue that I have is the info panel. I really, really don't like that it's placed so the top is higher than the dash. This is for all the recent Toyota models. I much prefer the screen to be completely embedded in the front of the dash. I feel it's a visual hazard and a distraction while driving. This, and the motorized driver's seat, are what I miss most on our 2015 Camry. It also means the center front air vents are smaller, and feel less effective. Quite frankly, it's a poor design, and I hope Toyota wises up soon and goes back to the previous dash design. I also miss having a cigarette lighter under the dash. Not for lighting actual cigarettes, but for charging my phone.while using it for GPS. There is a lighter base for chargers in the console between the front seats, but then I have to wind the charging cord up and over the steering wheel. There's a USB slot under the dash, but when I plug my phone into it, it becomes part of the car, which is not my preference. It might be yours, in which case you'll love it. Speaking of the console between the front seats, I wish I could swing it up. I would also prefer the cup holders in front of the gear shift instead of behind, and I would like a set of cup holders on the rear of that console for the passengers in the back seat. Why have 3 seats when you lose a seat if your passengers need cup holders?

Car is great EXCEPT the fans have a high-pitched squeal to them if they're on. It's driving my wife and I crazy! Not sure if this is all of them but I'd return it if I could for sanity's sake.

Edmunds Blew This One!!!

Yes, it is plain jane and no, I'm not going to blow the doors off anybody with his car. BUT... It gets way better gas mileage than Edmunds reports and that is the TOTAL reason I bought this hybrid. NO, NOT, and NEVER any other reason! Now the numbers for you. About 2 weeks after I bought this car I took a 400-mile road trip. My MPG measurement on the car at the end of the trip read clearly... 60.0 MPG! That was on a freeway cruising at a 75 mph which is when a hybrid is supposed to deliver a lower gas mileage than in stop-and-go city driving. I have checked my auto mpg measurements against calculated measurements and they are always within one-tenth mpg. I reset my auto mpg measurement once a month... one period the car averaged 61.7mpg for combined driving. It always measures 55 mpg or better. This beats any claim for any non-plugin Prius and, by far, any Kia or Honda. I bought this car for exactly what it does. It goes a long way on very little gas. When I fill my tank, the range indicator generally shows me I can travel 600 or more miles. Take that, Tesla.
