Used 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4WD 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Toyota 4runner is the best
Bought my 2003 Sport Edition v8 toyota 4runner with 164000 miles on it. It now has 214000 miles on it. It has not been pampered. I spend most of my time off road. It has been on slick rock, sand, snow, mud, water and has powered through with ease. The only big expense was a routine timing belt change. Other than that I have not had one problem with it. Runs strong, no rattles, everything is solid, everything works, no electrical problems and the truck still looks brand new. I have a dog that is in and out and the seats still look brand new. I put a 2 inch leveling kit on it and have been able to be off road and not high center. Not one oil leak. I change my oil every 4000 miles and that'ts it. I plan on driving this until it dies. It will easily make 300,000 miles and still run strong. They are very pricey but well worth the money. The Toyota will out last any car you own. Biggest complaint I have is that I can't buy the exact same year/model brand new. My mom also has the exact same year and model. Not one problem with it. Hers has 190,000 miles on it and has not had one problem... Love the toyota 4runner. Gas mileage sucks but worth it. These people saying they get 23 miles/gallon with the v8 or the v6 are [non-permissible content removed] This thing also tows amazing.. I tow a 7000 pound boat with no problem. No swaying and no power issues.

No need for a car payment!!
I sit here looking at my odometer with 266,667 miles on it. I bought my 2003 Toyota 4Runner with 133,000 miles on it. My wife and I travel and often rent vehicles, however, when I get home and get back in my forerunner, the newer cars never seem to compare. At 17 years old my, vehicle is quiet, solid and still after all of these years one of the most comfortable rides I’ve owned. I’ve yet to have any mechanical difficulties. I did put in a new A/C, but honestly all I do is change oil, timing chain, add Seafoam and replace shocks every 5-7 years (not Toyota RIAS).

Think again before you buy a 2003 4R
I purchased a new 2003 4Runner Sport 4wd from Toyota of Roswell on November, 2002. After 4K miles this is a partial list of what is wrong...exhaust enters into the passenger compartment, the truck vibrates when the sunroof is opened, the gas mileage is 10-12 in the highway, both door panels vibrate and rattle, the hatch rattles, the center rear console rattles, HAC does not work, the transmission does not shift properly when cold, etc. I paid an extra $700 for Toyoguard but I cannot even get a loaner vechicle if I leave the car in for service.
Toyota quality?
This is probably the vehicle with the widest gap between the design concept and the built quality that I ever owned. While the engineering and the design concepts are right on, the rattling and the squeaking make any trip an irritating experience. It appears that the Moon Roof is a major source of rattling.
THE TRUE RATING
FIRST OF ALL THIS VEHICLE IS A GAS HOG. I HAVE READ RATINGS OF GREAT GAS MILEAGE. MY COMBINED IS ABOUT 13-15 MPG. THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE IN THE BRIGHT SUN. WITH SUNGLASSES ON IT'S HARD TO SEE THE SPEEDOMETER AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE TEMPERATURE AND RADIO STATION READOUTS. THE POWER WINDOW IN THE BACK SHOULD BE A POP-UP LIKE ALL THE OTHER MFGS. THAT WINDOW IS ONE PAIN IN THE BUTT AND NOT USER FRIENDLY. OTHER THAN THAT WITH THIS BEING MY FIRST JAPANESE VEHICLE (I'VE BEEN DRIVING DOMESTICS FOR 33 YEARS) I'M SATISFIED WITH IT. I WAS TIRED OF GETTING NOTHING FOR MY DOMESTIC TRADE-INS.
