Lease turned in
I turned in my car after three years as the lease was up. The one problem it had during 23,000 miles was the "check engine" light came on and a heater/coolant valve was stuck, making the engine warm up slower. The Mercedes dealer who performed the warranty repair told me it was the tenth Smart they had encountered with that problem -- so it may be a vulnerability that should be watched. Unfortunately, it would have been a $500 repair out of warranty and the dealer could not assure me the "new" valve was any better than all the old valves that had failed in two years.

You have to drive it to review it.
First, review a car for what it is, not what it isn’t. What it is is a small car built for economy and less hassle. The 2016 can fit 2 240 pd 6’3” men and a weeks groceries. Also in sport mode it surprises the hell out of the car next to you at light as you get 0-50 VERY quickly. The turning radius is insane, almost no need for a 3 point turn when you can Uturn on a dime Safety was advanced for the 2016 model The Nav system is friendly enough, the heated seats work well. I’ve never paid more than $28 for a full tank of 93 octane. Mileage? City=28/32 suburbs=32/40 highway=40/51 yes 51 153 mile drive back from where I bought it to the gas station on the way home… 3 gallons on the mark. Drawbacks= -short wheelbase will not save you from bumps in the road. -2 seater, which can also be an advantage to avoid distractions -Rear right blind spot. Update: It’s still great! I went on vacation and was missing my car. My kids are learning to drive with them

Smart is right
My 2016 smart for two has been an amazing surprise. Since day one I have been averaging over 40 mpg combined. I have 30209 miles on it. The biggest surprise is on the highway she is very stable and there is no problem passing other vehicles when the need arrives. Actually the car seems content and nimble at 70 to 80 mph speed. The ride is nicer also. City and back roads are a much rougher ride. Nope not a Lexus but node a truck ride either. Maintenance is simple, 0/40 weight Mobil One once a year with filter. Changed front pads at 26,000 because of what I read but they could have went much farther. Changed plugs at 30k as maintenance schedule said. Old ones looked fine. Oh well. Bottom line 2016 Smart a nice ride.
