Beastmobile
I got this car my senior year of high school at 94k miles and after beating the complete dog mess out of it for 3 years and about 30k miles later, this car still runs like a champion! Never lost to a Honda, plowed through the snow like a subie, please believe I had tons of fun in this car being able to turn the traction control off at a touch of a button. I finally blew the tranny back in November after making travels across the state of Wa and decided it was time for something different, but I would recommend this car to anyone. Can't go wrong with a Gm 3.8l v6, right ?

I love my Intrigue!
I received my Intrigue December of 2011 for a X-mas present. So far it has made it 138,410 miles, so all of you who think that high mileage is bad, its not it just depends on who is taking care of it. No problems except having to restore front lenses, and covering up a few dings. This car is fun and smooth, almost ;like riding on a cloud. So for all who are looking for a good starter car I reccomend this beautiful car.

Been A Good Car
I bought this car in 2006 and I have no complaints. It is starting to fall apart but I expected this to happen soon with over 241,000 miles on it. It has always been reliable Abd I have no complaints
It's a Great Old Man Car
I purchased this car with 155,000 miles on it. It is a rather large car, but it gets excellent gas mileage. I averaged low 20s in the city and high 20s on the highway. I mainly used it for winter, cause its fwd and with snow tires I managed to go everywhere. I replaced the rotors at 164,000 miles. It needed new belt a little while after that at 189,000 miles. The intake manifold went and it cost $1,500 for new engine, but considering the miles, I sold it to my mechanic. I see that he's been driving it around, so it must be doing good.
Love this car and Oldsmobile
This was my first car, it now has over 230,000 miles on it. I have no major problem with it. It runs like the day I got it. I recommend this car to everybody I know
Trans failed at 11,000
The transmission failed at 11,000 miles. I bought a new GM replacement which they will guarantee for 100,000 miles or 3 hears. It wasn't under warranty because it was in a garage for 10 years, so it cost me over $4000. The AC motor leaks and the dealer couldn't find the tool to replace it. But it drives well and smoothly and handles very well for a GM car.
Kinda love it, kinda hate it
I bought this car cause the dealership I worked at gave me a good deal. $4200 at 62,000 miles, traded in by an old guy who never drove it. Was skeptical since its GM and I prefer Japanese cars. So far everything has been fine though! The body dents really easily though, especially the fenders. Had to replace all power window motors two weeks after I bought it. Serpentine belt snapped at 70k. Interior has held up! Nice leather, heater and a/c work, plenty of power! A lot more reliable than I had expected.
GREAT car, but bad in a fender-bender
This is an excellent car. I've owned it for less than 4 months and have put 3,000 miles on top of the original 45,000. It's my first car and I can already tell that it was a good choice. The car has enough power and acceleration to keep me entertained without getting me into trouble. In the twisties this car is a blast. It seems to have the perfect balance of handling and ride quality. The car performs on long trips, although the seats can get a little uncomfortable after hours on the road. The brakes are strong and responsive but the stock tires aren't great. The tread life is too short. I already need new tires and they aren't as thick as I would like. Other than that, the car is great!
SILVER BULLET
Fun to drive, never had any problems on the road. From the Mackinac Bridge in Northern Michigan to West Palm Beach in South Florida, the safest and most reliable car I have ever owned.
Geat Car
Have had this car since new and have really enjoyed the performance, fuel economy and reliability.
Loved this car
I bought this car used in 2004, w/45,000 miles. I was used to buying foreign, and remember test driving this when it was new. It was designed to compete with foreign cars, handling and design. Also the 3800 Series II was a temp till the engine they planned for the car was finished. I must say I LOVED THIS CAR from the day I bought it, till I sold it, and wish hadn't. The handling was great, and very similar to foreign. Gas mileage was remarkably good for a 3.8 engine. This engine blows the replacement 3.5 engine (later yrs) away. Much smoother and quieter shifting and ride. Great room, great design. I only wish they still made them. My A/C went too. Otherwise reliable, except normal wear.
I love my Intrigue
I absolutely love my Intrigue!!! It runs great, looks great, and is even more fun to drive. The gas mileage could be better, but the pros of this car far outway the cons.
Fabulous car!
Best car we have ever had! Plenty of interior room, plenty of power, ultra smooth ride.
Best Car I've Owned
I have owned seven cars since I have been driving. I must admint that thisis the most reliable and fun to drive vehicle that I have ever owned. It is botha sporty vehicle and a family vehicle. It has plent of room and power. I had been looking for a Ford Crown Victoria prior to seeing the Oldsmobile Intrigue. I found that the Intrigue had more power and was more fun to drive.
Loved it, despite problems late in life
Bought new 2/98. Great car for the first 8 yrs or so. Fun to drive, good fuel economy, good ergonomics, comfortable. It always (from around age 2+) had a minor, but irritating, oil leak that no one ever seemed able to find or fix. Otherwise, experienced only the usual and expected wear-related maintenance issues until about age 9, when several major problems cropped up (cracked intake manifold, mainly), and along with expected maintenance items consistent with that age/mileage just became too much to justify on a car with 121K miles. Finally traded it off 8/2008, but with a lot of sadness. It really was a good car overall, and I was very sorry to see it go.
Great Business Car
Overall a great car. Bought new in Nov. 1998, only work other than maintenance was the antilock brake controller ($1000.00 ding) and an Oxygen sensor (under warranty). Took car on a 11,000 mile road trip across the USA. Very comfortable and reliable. Only complaint is the driver side visor need an extension to block the sun. I'm 6'3" tall, and car has plenty of room. I drive as a salesman everyday, no complaints. 92,000 + miles and still going strong. Regards.
Still "Intrigued" after all these years!
Bought this car new in '98 , fell in love with it and still love it ! We had a few problems but all were taken care of by the dealer, under warrenty ( rough shifing, shift lever broke button, front roters warped) This is a very nice car. It handles well , good gas millage( on regular), has plenty of pick up and rides wel. Made in the USA with UAW labor and 85% US/ Canadian parts content. Buy American! A very pleasing car to drive.
Olds got the Intrigue right
My 1998 Intrigue GL has been a great car for me. Olds got this one right. The car has had no problems in 53,000 miles.
Great Overall Car
There isnt much of a difference between driving this car and my previous Grand Prix. A fun, sporty mid sized car. An Excellent value for its reasonable price tag. I added a receiver hitch to my Intrigue and pulled a fully loaded 8 Uhaul trailer through the Appalachian Mountains. I was amazed it was able to pull it!
Great Car
Many people when they think of Oldsmobile as a slow old man's car, yet at 16 years of age, many teenagers oooooh and aaahh over many of its great features. I'm a very satisfied owner.
Great Car
I bought a used Intrigue just a few weeks back, and I am really enjoying it. I have the 3800 V-6 and the car really moves. Handles great. Have gotten tons of compliments on the look of the car.
Great car
I am original owner and after 154000 miles I still love this car. It is the earlier model with the 3800 seriesII V6- a great engine and no transmission problems. In fact no major maintaince expense- just what one might expect. Starter, intake manifold, plug wires and hoses. I hope to get another 150000 miles. I recently slowed down to the speed limit on highway and got 32/33 mpg against the original advertized 30mpg.
One of my favorite cars ever
I love this car. Being 6'2" I do not fit comfortably in many cars. This car is perfect for me. My 4'11" wife finds it a bit too large for her taste but still drives it often. I wanted a mid- size domestic car that was as good or better than an import. This is definately the right car. Engine is excellent, I prefer a little tighter cornering but I am also a motorcyclist who is spoiled. The only drawbacks are a lack of adjustable lumber support and although great, I prefer the A/C controls on the import vehicles. I get almost daily compliments and questions about my Intrigue. I would highly recommend this car and am sad that the Olds name will not continue.
Decent Car
Bought my 98 Intrigue at 64,000 in May of 09, got a great deal on it from the dealership I worked at. Old guy owned it before, hardly drove it. After owning it a year and a half it is still a nice car. The interior has held up nicely. 3 of the 4 power window motors went out due to car being from TX, lots of dust and dirt in the track caused windows to fall out of tracks. Replaced serpentine belt at 72k. Quarter panels seem to dent very easily with the slightest impact. Currently has 87k on it and everything is going well! Paint holds up, electric system, brakes.. ride is very smooth and pretty quiet for being 12 years old. All around nice car for the average driver.
98 Intrigue
A good car.
113K and still going strong
I bought the Intrigue used in Aug 1999 with 26,000 miles. It now has a few miles shy of 113,000 miles in March 2003. Aside from a freak occurrence, belt tensioner seizure at around 90k miles, it has been perfect. It is confident in rain and snow, and of course it handles superbly on a sunny day - much better than the Grand Prix GTP, which I have test driven prior to deciding on the Intrigue. It's such a pleasure to drive, I often take the long way home. Occasional passengers often mistake my Intrigue for a European or Japanese import and are surpised when I tell them it's an Oldsmobile.
Nice car, sorry to see Olds stop product
My wife and I bought the car new in Oct 98 and have 61000 miles on it. I am sorry to see them no longer making Oldsmobile. I never wanted an Oldsmobile product because they were always so old looking (elderly peeps car). The intrigue has been great for us and we are a family of four. We have had the car 5 years with no problems but standard maintenance. The dash heats up if you drive a lot at night from the lighting but other than that no problems at all.
Great American Gem
My car has 92,000 miles on it and I have not had to make one repair, except for oil changes, one set of brakes and tires, this car has not cost me a dime. Gas milege is very reasonable. I drive 70 miles a day and average around 24 miles to the gallon. With my 70 mile round trip commute, I have found the seating very comfortable. I have found an American gem. This car provides all of the features, look, handling and functionality I could ask for in a car. With ample space for a family of 5, I doubt a Japanese car in its class could compare!!
Oldsmobile Intrigue
Overall a well performing car with good gas mileage. Has the power to pass and go yet still a comfortable ride. Best to get good tires for traction in water and snow. Air conditioning not as strong as it should be. Has been a reliable car since I bought it brand new.
Dependable and great mileage
I bought my Intrigue with 42,000 miles on it and it's been great. It was a rental car at one point based on the Carfax report. I just hit 103,000 miles with no significant issues. All it has needed is new tires, new brakes and a serpentine belt. The car is bullet proof! I keep track of mileage and I got 28 MPG in my last fillup in mixed city/hwy driving. The car's handling is still top notch with over 100,000 miles on the odometer. I originally bought the car after renting various Intrigues for work. The handling was what impressed me at first.
Oldsmobile in the USA
never a problem with over 120k just general fluid changes and light maintenance. Who says general motors cant't build. The ride and quality of the oldsmobile intrigue rivals the japan and european sedans. The oldsmobile intrigue one really good car.I have owned the rivals too.
Best Car EVER!
This is the best car I have ever own. Period.
Best Car Ever Owned
This has no problems what so ever!
One of my best buys!
One of the sharpest, most reliable used cars I've ever owned. Basic maitenance is all I've ever had to do. Runs and looks like a champ!
What a pile of garbage
I thought this was a neat looking car. Still is. But it has terrible quality and reliability. Everything started breaking starting at 75,000 miles-now has 90,000. Just like the old garbage of the 60's and 70's planned obsolescence seems to have been the order of the day at Oldsmo-Buick engineering. The car has a rental car feel and ride when it does run. Put your money on a Honda or Nissan you won't be as sorry about it as I am.
Nice, but lots of repairs
At 18,000 miles my Oldsmobile Intrigue's head gasket blew. At 22,000 the brake rotors warped, At 24,000 the steering pinion geer failed, at 28,000 the brake pump failed, at 48,000 the transmission torque converter broke, at 62,000 I had the brake rotors replaced, at 70,000 the fan belt tension bracket broke off, at 98,000 the transmission pcm valve failed, just to name a few problems. Also, the radio knobs fell off. Factory tires were junk, too. But the drive is nice.
Keeps going and going
I've owned this car for about 3 years now. When it was bought it only had around 56000 miles on it. The car now has over 207000 miles on it.My experience with this car has been a very pleasant one to say the least. This car has not had any major mechanical problems involving either the engine or other wise. Ive driven many miles in this car it has never let me down no matter the situation. The vehicle has its faults, but they are minor at best and should not detract from this vehicle especially if your the type that likes to have a car that can handle the miles in better than decent comfort and with impeccable reliability.
It Only It Had Been Called A Cutlass. .
So when we walked away from the alleged Cutlass in 1998, the dealer guided us towards the Intrigue. "You'll love it," he said, and he was right. Almost six years later, with minimal maintenance (read: normal) required, I have to ask the question: if this had been named the Cutlass, and was available in a coupe, you'd still be seeing the Oldsmobile brand under the GM umbrella. This car is every bit as fun to drive now as it was new, and I truly wish GM would have realized what a tremendous opportunity it had with this car.
Good with 125,000 miles
I bought my Oldsmobile Intrigue with 13,000 miles on it. It has over 125,000 on it now. I have had two problems with it. At 75,000 miles it needed a new A/C compressor and at 110,000 miles it needed a new water pump. It is almost all city miles. I have been very happy with it. Before this I owned a Dodge. It was in the shop all the time. This car goes in once a year for inspection and that's it.
Olds is gone - This car is a good reason
We've had it now for 5 years and 30k miles. I want to love this car, I really do, but everytime I start to something else breaks!! Here is a sampling of problems Sensor in Transmission;Fuel injector;Intake Manifold; Rear Window motor (Twice);CD player; Warped Brake Rotors (x3 times); Blower motor fan; Water pump; Several broken controls and buttons. Total non- warranty repairs have totaled close to $2k. I do like the styling and ergonomics. It could be a little quiter on the highway but it's not bad. The 3800 V-6 makes it fun to drive.
Great Choice
Bought the car new in 99 - mechanics leftover type deal so it had 3400 miles, big deal! I love this car. Has been great! I drive one of the twistiest highways in NY to and from work and never had a problem. Smooth power on the hills, holds the road great. Cup holder holds anything. Live on top of a Mtn and never even put snows on this baby!
Great family sports car
I have kids. I had to get something that would compete with my pre-Camaro owning days. I bought an intrigue. This car was just as sporty, handled just as well, and had plenty of power to boot. It is a great car for the guy who has to grow up!
You Decide
I purchased my Oldsmobile Intrigue 2 1/2 years ago with 60,000 miles on it. I had no problems with it (just normal routine maintenance) until we got over 100,000 miles. The power windows and windshield wipers have ceased to work. I am an extreme neat freak and wash and detail the car at least once ever two weeks, but the interior leather on the door is beginning to peel off. The cassette player eats any tapes we insert. The CD player, when driving, becomes abnormally hot and the factory speakers have blown. The car has begun to stutter when I hit the gas. We have gone through brakes like a fat kid goes through twinkie boxes. But, we have driven this car over 20,000 miles a year since we bought it. The interior is quiet, if you have the right tires.
intrigue1998
Everything held together pretty well until 60,000 miles then oil leaks started, strut supports went out, alternator was replaced, idler pulley came apart, now I hear there's a forthcoming recall for the steering box. Also along the way a couple of electric window motors failed. I've driven Japanese autos to well over 100,000 miles without any of this foolishness happening. Had considered an Impala until stuff started breaking, but since it's a GM drivetrain clone of this car I might just pass and check out Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, and Mazda 6's.
Great Little Car
We bought my car with 67000 miles and we've only had a couple minor problems that would occurr with normal wear and tear like a new accesory belt ect. Its fun to drive and still really practical. Drives like a tank in the snow. 4 inches plus havn't stopped me a bit.
Exceeded my expectations
At 120,000 miles, this car has exceeded my expectations. It's comfortable, smooth, and versatile. I have had very few problems (brakes and alternators). I drive mainly the highway and the car has always been smooth and quiet. I am surprised at how pleased the 1998 owners are vs. the 2001 owners. Why? Seems like 1998 owners should be experiencing more problems, but they reviews do not reflect that.
Oldsmobile...
I bought it when car had 61k, and these are the problems that i had. air conditioning stoped working...dealer found leaks.so i dont have a/c now. Plastic coolant reservour cracked. Replaced for $12. Bass/treble knob broke , then balance/fade knob gave up too.Since i bought a car i can feel some noise and vibration when turning and braking at the same time. Not fixed yet. Power steering is very loud. Makes the car vibrate when turning wheels while standing. Right rear power window broke..Replaced with jankyard part for $75. Thats what i had so far...Not that bad or good. Dont think its a great car , and dont think its a bad car...Its just a car.
Not Bad for the price...
I'm an 18 year-old teenager who drives alot. Olds are usually for older people and that is what I thought until I drove it. It has great sound, power, handling, and is a good car.
Good car, just short of great
Bought car used, 36K in 2001, one owner, clearly had kids, excellent condition. Car has good pickup off the line and will move fairly well when gassed in the 60-75 mph range. When going about 25-30 mph, you step on the gas and either the car mildly accelerates or takes off, full throttle, no in between. Stock sound system is fair. Plenty of trunk room but a small opening to get anything in there. Air conditioner electrics broke after a couple of months, cost $2000 to fix at dealer, thank you to extended warranties... Cheap plastic parts on radio. Relatively rough ride. Roomy interior for 5 mid sized adults.
strong car!
My Intrigue now has 132,000 miles on it and it is running perfectly. Dont have any problems with it and it handles well on the road. The drive is smooth and has plenty of low end power.
