Dependable and great mileage

I bought my Intrigue with 42,000 miles on it and it's been great. It was a rental car at one point based on the Carfax report. I just hit 103,000 miles with no significant issues. All it has needed is new tires, new brakes and a serpentine belt. The car is bullet proof! I keep track of mileage and I got 28 MPG in my last fillup in mixed city/hwy driving. The car's handling is still top notch with over 100,000 miles on the odometer. I originally bought the car after renting various Intrigues for work. The handling was what impressed me at first.

Olds is gone - This car is a good reason

We've had it now for 5 years and 30k miles. I want to love this car, I really do, but everytime I start to something else breaks!! Here is a sampling of problems Sensor in Transmission;Fuel injector;Intake Manifold; Rear Window motor (Twice);CD player; Warped Brake Rotors (x3 times); Blower motor fan; Water pump; Several broken controls and buttons. Total non- warranty repairs have totaled close to $2k. I do like the styling and ergonomics. It could be a little quiter on the highway but it's not bad. The 3800 V-6 makes it fun to drive.

My Intrigue now has 132,000 miles on it and it is running perfectly. Dont have any problems with it and it handles well on the road. The drive is smooth and has plenty of low end power.

This is a great car - the 3800 engine is dependable, and powerful. Handles like a sports car, only with a good ride. I bought this car with 50,000 and put another 75,000 miles on with only minor repairs. Super sturdy on snow and ice. OVERALL one of the best cars ever

This is a great car. Bought it with 50,000, put on 75,000 more miles and still going with only minor repairs to steering box. 3800 continues to be GMs best motor ever. Super power and handling. Sure-footed on snow and ice. One of the best cars I have ever had.

One of GMs Best

Bought this car new for my wife. After 7 years it still looks better than most GM cars on the road and handles like a sports car. We chose it over a Grand Prix (better interior) or a Regal (better handling/ride). Only consistent problem has been clogged fuel injectors which required periodic cleaning. If Oldsmobile had made more like this one, they might still be in business. About to trade in on a Buick LaCrosse and we hope it's as reliable.

Best Car I've Ever Owned

Other than routine maintance, my Oldsmobile Intrigue has been a champ through long trips and city stop and go driving. I had back surgery and this is the most comfortable car that I have ever sat in. The power is incredible for this style car and with the airbag system I feel safe. The sound system is awesome, it has the OEM sound I've heard - and I'm a sound man and electrician. My son is comfortable and safe in this car and that makes the differnce. It also has trunk space for many long trips. It saddens me that GM decided to stop the Oldsmobile line because if they came out with a new Intrigue I would buy it. Mine now has nearly 130,000 miles on it, but I'm sure she has a lot of miles left.

I bought my Oldsmobile Intrigue new and have been delighted ever since. I have not had to make any repairs to it outside of normal wear and tear. It has outstanding handling and good braking. It gets good gas mileage. Unfortunately, the seats can get a little uncomfortable over long trips. Also, I have experienced some annoying trim problems. Still, I was sorry to see the Oldsmobile brand eliminated.

I have had my Intrigue since new since '98. it is now 8 years old and is still chugging along. I had to replace the brakes, tires, steering rack, front hubs, and ball joints. the radiator is next. My car has 166,000 miles, so I can't complain. I wish the fuel economy was a little better. stereo upgrades were a sinch with the stuff that I got from crutchfield. I would buy another one today if the one that I have died.

Fine Overall Reliability!

This car has fine overall reliability. It is one of the very best cars I've ever owned! It provides an excellent combination of style, comfort, performance, and good gas mileage. Its build quality could have been better (door and hood alignment). One problem I've had (a common one according to my mechanic) is with the plastic intake manifold. I had to replace it because it had "bubbles" between the coolant ports and the air/gas intake (fortunately no leak of coolant into the air/gas intake at the time it was found out which could have been disasterous driving at highway speeds!). I wrote to GM but got no satisfaction! It is really an engineering design flaw! I pop the hood whenever I can now to let out the heat!

COST PER MILE

bought my car used at 20Kmile for about $13K, now it is 115Kmile and going. no trouble. Excellent bargain!thought about trading it in, say for a Passat ($,ignition coil mess), Camry ($ for the V6, insurance, premium gas), Accord ($for V6, insurance cost, premium gas), Maxima (rented one, it is OK, $$$ for the car, premium gas). It could be 10 cents per mile if I drive it to 130K. the old 3800 II V6 (also in the buick regal, LeSabre) have lasted to 250K and up. If I bought a new maxima/camry/accord for about $22K, I will have to drive them to about 190K- 220K to achieve that 10 cents a mile, and higher insurance and gas $.

Four Wheeled Hand Me Down

I got the car from my senior citizen parents. It has 36,000 miles on it. It is clean and good driving once in motion. It has a problem with not going into gear out of park when it is cool until the car is warmed up for at least five to eight minutes. No mater how hard I push that shift button, it won't budge. The dealer says "I don't know what it can be just bring it in. Right. But the car itself is very likable. It is bright and with good visibility. If it wasn't for the transmission problem (shifter), I'd keep it over my 1995 Cougar, but one has to go and with 127,000 miles the Cougar still purrrs along so Intrigue while it's otherwise a very pleasant car has to go.

Bought the car in September 2002 and so far have not had any major problems. 2 weeks ago took the car to the dealer, a sensor change cost $560 (good thing is I purchased the GM protection plan). I was surprised to find out how many of the complaints listed here actually are problems of my own: door panels have bubbles, climate controls refused to work one morning (that can drive you mad when it's winter and you live in MI!); previously owned a Buick Regal and the noise on the Olds is overwhelming.

Got the Intrigue in Nov of 2001 with 32000 miles on it, its got 54000 now. Was looking for a used car, hadn't really considered and Olds. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised upon test driving this one. The 3800 series II cranks out plenty of oomph when you need it. We've only had one problem with it so far, the idler/tensioner pulley failed - cost about 40$ to repair. Gas mileage always surprises me for the size of engine/car it is. Usually around 25-27 mpg on avg. Stereo sounds great, seats are comfy. I like the overrideable traction control feature.

5+ years with a 98 Intrigue

Car had drive shaft clunking noise, was replaced but would still intermittently clunk for no reason and occasionally would get a dramatic pull when backing down the driveway. Engine gaskets leaked. 44k, 56k, and 70k. GM paid half the cost for first two repairs. Car also had electrical short and all the dash lights would flash and gauges would jump occasionally.

This car has been an outstanding vehicle. Not wanting to buy an Oldsmobile, mostly from lack of anyone younger than myself ever having owned one and not being able to get a good feel for them, I acquiesced to my wifes desire to purchase it. I bought it used with slighlty less than 40k on it. In the nearly two years I have owned it we have pushed the mileage to 77k with no problems other than a derailed coffe cup holder that took two minutes to fix. Fit and finish are good and the car is a joy to drive. Quick, responsive and good on gas, it fits my family of four quite nicely. I would have NO problem entertaining the purchase of another Oldsmobile product.

Fun to Drive and ASTOUNDING Reliability

We bought this car new and have been absolutely ecstatic with our purchase ever since. The car is very comfortable, handles well, is fun to drive, seats 5 comfortably, and has been surprisingly reliable. With 115,000 miles on it since purchased in 11/1997, we have had to perform a grand total of 2 (two) repairs other than routine maintenance. The starter had to be replaced at around 60,000 miles and at 110,000, the automatic headlight sensor was replaced. The fuel-door release button popped off a few years ago and was never found (fortunately I can stick my pinky in and trigger the release), and the electric window control panel on the armrest has been loose almost since new.

Bought this car when my van quit on me. I loved it! It was very roomy and nice. Had a great sunroof, sound system, and 6 disc changer. The gas was great also....However, son flipped it 4 times, and rammed into a tree and walked out with no injuries. This car is extremely safe and built well!!

This car has over 120,000 miles. I bought it new and other than routine maintenance the only repair has been a new compressor for air conditioning. The leather seats have held up really well. My favorite thing about this car is the fast acceleration. It is like no other car I have driven and makes merging onto a highway a safer experience.

I love the way the car handles as well as it's looks. However, I have had many reoccuring problems when it comes to cosmetics. First problem I had on many occasions is the bubbling of the leather on the door panels. They were replaced on a few occasions while under warantee, again I'm having the problem. I have also had the windows sticking to the rubber which has broken the motors of the electric windows both during and now after the warantee has expired. I have already replaced the motors on both front doors and am now replacing the rear drivers. The replacement costs are an outrageous $400 each. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE AGAIN.

One owner car for 10 years

I bought this car new, put 60K on it in three years, gave it to wife who put 40K on it in 4 years, and my two high school/college kids put the last 30K on it in three years. Overall a very good car. Drive train is great with the Series II V6 and a strong tranny. A lot of electrical problems over the years. The interior has disintegrated and all the plastic stuff is broken. The windshield wipers have been a problem. The A/C crashed after 6 years and was too expensive to fix so we've done without. I feel like I've gotten my money out of it so I'm trading it in. If I found a clean one used, I'd buy it for the kids.

Not Perfect, But Good Enough

We purchased this car used from another owner at just under 100,000 miles. In terms of comfort and performance, the car was solid. Definitely a better experience than I expected. The design is great, but the car left something to be desired in terms of quality. I didn't end up spending a ton on major repairs, but I regularly found myself dishing out cash for minor issues like broken turn signal and power windows - both known issues with the Intrigue. Also, the car's fuel economy seemed to decline with time. In the end, I lost the car at only 140,000 mi to an intake and head gasket leak that was not caught in time to save the engine - yet another known problem with Intrigues.

I bought this when my Subaru wagon's engine died in e. Tenn., (still haven't hit 100k miles on 2 I've owned). Sonny, the owner of the towing/repair center only had 1 car to sell, a silver intrigue, w/147,000 miles on, and I had to go 650 miles back to Chicago with my friend bill & 2 bicycles & gear. The car was leaking oil/coolant, had the warped plastic engine manifold, no ac, worn ignition switch, broken stabilizer bar, rusted muffler, worn tie rods/engine mounts, tension pulley, (from the oil). All were replaced & the transmission was rebuilt too. But the interior & body are in decent shape, and with all the trouble I was getting 31 highway mpg! I feel I have a new car now, and hope to reach 200k miles.

This has been a great vehicle. I have had it in the shop once because of an actual problem. One of the pulleys was bent and it ripped off. The only other things I can think of other than that that aren't good is that it could use a little more leg room, a boost in hp, and the doors where the window controls are keep popping out.

Buying the Intrigue was an easy decision. The car was the nicest to look at in its class, it had a gutsy engine, reasonable interior and it was affordable. Since buying this car it hasn't spent more than a few hours in the shop for regular oil changes, tire rotations et al. The only problems I've had with this car is keeping it clean! Never before have I had such a hard time keeping the inside of a car clean... it attracts dirt like no other car I've owned.
