Great Little Cougar

I purchased this car used at 4 years old. Drives like a dream in the summer, bad in winter for slipping around! Only have had 2 major repairs and 1 minor repair since I've owned the car in 12 years; as others have stated, it blew the head gaskets (after the recall expired), a window motor on the driver side door failed, and the air conditioner failed. Paint has deteriorated after 16 years but the Cougar has been a great little classy ride. I'm just getting ready to trade now.

Good Highway Cruiser

I bought this from my grandpa with 108k and now have 168k. The only things I have replaced besides normal maintenance are the fuel pump and starter.140 hp will not win you any races, but the low end torque makes normal driving quite easy. City mileage is not good, but conservative highway driving gets me 27-28 mpg. Winter driving can be dangerous but having one or two sandbags makes a world of difference! I hear that the 3.8 had some head gaskets issues; luckily I haven't experienced them although I may still have a leak because my temp gauge can be fidgety sometimes, even after changing the thermostat. Regardless, wouldn't hesitate to drive it long distances

Great Car Shame on Ford for Replacing it

This car is very reliable, practical, comfortable, and has decent power. It's perfect for what it used for. It's in Bergundy, but we would have had a Blue one, if my wife's Toyota Corolla didn't fail us on our wedding day. The problem was too big to want me to keep the car being a mechanic, so we went to our dealer and bought this one. Usual wear has caused the power windows and AC to require replacing when the car was 11 and 13 years old. The only problem that was a bit premature was the odomoter went out at about 500 miles, but it wasn't a big problem.

Great for tall people, 6'6". Good power, handles very well. Incredibly reliable car. No problems in 200,000 miles. 302 engine is great. Would definitely buy another one if this one ever gives up.

i bought this car in 2002 with 92,000 miles, one owner garaged very clean. i put new shocks, struts, lower control arms bushings, strut mounts, flushed trans. 40,000 miles later the heads went out. $1100 later back on the road .the water pump was leaking at 165,000 miles . easy fix . the odometer stoped 10/20/2007 with 215,000 miles . car runs good. i drive it every day to keep miles off my 06 gto.
