Used 2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive Consumer Reviews
Great overall with, like any car, a few shortfalls
After one year of driving... Still love this car. The radar interval control will not override the cruise control, to me this is a safety fault. No Apple Play or Android, the Garman maps are a POS. Software and map updates are not free and are expensive. Voice control is minimal, can’t say, “directions to...” and have the maps plot a course, or input destination with Voice. Voice control of the phone is OK but could use some refinement. Below 58 degrees the mileage drops into the 60s, above 60 degrees mileage is in the 80s on a full charge. Using the extended range 100 miles is easy. ORIGINAL REVIEW #1 is this is a city or commuting car not a Holliday car. It has about a 100 mile range and no level 3 charging capability. Instant power, would be a formidable stop light racer. #2 it is all Mercedes and what you would expect from Mercedes. Love all the technology (you will see lots of electronic controls as you open various doors and hatches) and if I could add one improvement it would be a touch screen - I am so used to my iPad that I want to use my fingers. #3 To me at 5’ 10” and 250 lbs the seat could be an inch wider. Run flat Mitchelin tires so no spare and storage room under the rear deck where the spare would normally be. #4 Items not installed that I believe help define a Mercedes. No control to lower and stow the rear headrests. No tool kit. Miniscule first-aid kit. #5 Safety, all the usuall items like ABS, traction control, stability control, radar assisted interval control, etc. However this is so neat. The car essentially weighs you, calculates your height from you foot position, and in an accident scenario will independently tighten your seat belt with an explosive charge, and deploy the airbags in a sequence to best protect you. Driver and passenger each has four airbags.

Over $1 per mile driven cost of ownership
I added up my cost of ownership (purchase and repairs) divide it by the miles driven to the point where the repairs exceed the value and got $1.01per mile driven!! big mistake. The cost of the motor replacement was $8,600 and the internal charger $9,800, plus other repairs totaled over $22,000.

Underdog
We've been leasing the 2014 (without range extender) for a year and a half. It is our second car, used for SF Bay Area local driving. There are many reviews complaining about charging capabilities and technology and range and value. For us, this was the best value for our small family. I'm 6'2, and frequently ride in back with our small daughter. There is as much space for me as in my Audi A6 wagon. We got this car instead of the i3 because of the subtle styling, and the fact that it handles worlds better, and is more usable in the real world for a family. I'm a big fan of the concept of the i3, and all of the technology it brings to the auto industry, but Riding in the back seat of the BMW is a horrible experience, without operable windows, no handles, and the squirrelly ride, not to mention the suicide door entry. It's great for a work commute, but not for taking the family to the grocery store or the beach. If you want a premium car, and need it for real life short trips, this is it. Pros: interior space. Fit and finish, quiet, quick, regenerative braking modulation by paddle shifters , safety. Cons: should be rear wheel drive (too much torque for front wheel drive), needs charging port lighting.

Buyer beware- Tesla motors fail regularly
I’d love to love this car, but it is fatally flawed. You'd think the Tesla powerplant would be a selling point. Instead, it is an Achilles heel. These early generation motors fail 2/3 of the time before 60,000 miles. The repair is $16,000 to $19,000. I know because after four months at the local MB dealer in Santa Monica, the car still isn’t repaired. Don’t buy this car.

Great bargain as a used EV
I've had my 2014 model for 5 months. I paid around $17,000 for it. If you can live with the limited range (perhaps 62 miles in winter, as high as 100 in spring) and 3-4 hour charging it's a wonderful car. New, this one had an MSRP of almost $50,000. You can find these cars at various places around the country in the $17k-$24k range, some with very low miles. Mine came from Maryland originally, but landed on a used car lot here in N.C. So what's the car like? Well visibility is superb. It seems to have no blind spots, but just in case, the blind spot monitor indicators are large and bright. The rear view mirrors seem extra large too. Leather-like seats with umpteen-way adjustment are excellent. For a 2014 car the tech is excellent (I guess that accounts for the high MSRP). Still seems current in 2019 (as long as you don't drive a Tesla). Acceleration is very exciting, faster than M-B wanted to admit (it made their other cars look sick). Cargo space is large and easily accessible. This car has the Harmon-Kardon sound system which is very impressive. Like somebody else said in comments, I enjoy this car every time I get to drive it. Local M-B dealer here in Raleigh, NC never sold the car, but offers full support for it. I had some repairs (NAV died, steering loose, struts replaced) done under warranty, so I don't know the cost outside of warranty... could be fearful from what I hear about Mercedes (this is my first). I was able to get a 3-yr extended warranty for $2600. I have a Tesla Model X as well, and this car is still the car of choice for shorter trips and places with tight parking. Seems like the best car on the market right now, at least for me. Reviews of Chevy Bolt, e-Golf and BMW i3 indicate much less uncomfortable interiors. The i3 in particular does no favors for the rear passengers. In my car they have their own fold-up tray tables!
