Nice Vehicle But There Are Better Choices

2018 Maserati Levante S 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A)

As previous reviewers have posted, this is a nice vehicle but there is nothing that is truly outstanding. First, it looks and feels great upon entry. This vehicle exudes a very simple refined elegance. Driving in sport mode is a must. The ride quality is nice but not overtly intrusive. The technology is fine but is a bit dated as there is no TFT screen nor heads up display which is disappointing. The breaking and the suspension are extremely capable. The exhaust note is quite nice and in sport mode the baffles open up when idling but upon acceleration, they close a bit so you get a great but not overwhelming exhaust note. Also the seats although nice are not as functional as other in this class as there are no thigh / side / shoulder bolsters. The rear space is also capable and provide more than enough room for a long weekender or the empty nesters. Quite honestly, this vehicle feels more like a super refined QX70 which I really enjoyed but per the competition, the BMW X6 50i, Audi Q8, and Cayenne S will offer more / better technology, much better seating and a sportier ride. This being stated, this vehicle has it own niche environment and there are some great deals as sales are very sluggish. Also note any vehicle in this class will take a major hit on depreciation and will prove in the end to be a gas / maintenance hog. Hope this helps!

Maserati!!!

Exceptional SUV. The handling, suspension and driving comfort are very good, the power and acceleration comparable to BMW M or Mercedes AMG. An SUV in the best Italian style and design with an unparalleled feature, it is a Maserati. I had a BMW X5M and beyond some technological sophistications that are not necessary, without a doubt in the sporting aspects of an SUV I stay with the Maserati Levante Modena.

Brace yourself. This vehicle is not for the timid. In sport mode it roars. It handles like a sports car but is as plush as a luxury vehicle.

Love the absolutely beautiful design and solid performance of my Levante, but in every day driving it is, sadly, the most annoying car I've ever owned. If you don't hold your hands exactly proper on the steering wheel (as I do when cruising on the highway), the car will continually beep annoying noises at you until you pull your hair out. The same beeping occurs if you wear the wrong gloves while driving. Unfortunately, neither my Maserati dealer nor I have not figured any way to turn off this beeping without disconnecting all the other important connections to the steering wheel. “Sport mode” may avoid this beeping, but then you are losing all the gas mileage and other benefits of the non-sport modes of the vehicle. Another problem, and potentially a dangerous one, is if you use left foot braking and then hit the throttle with your right foot to get the engine revs up, before you release your left foot off the brake, then after you release the brake the throttle can fail for a couple seconds (flashing a throttle failure warning message on the dash), leaving you stranded with no acceleration. This has happened to me a couple times, most notably one time when I was on the highway and had to quickly and aggressively brake and turn out of my lane because the car in front of me suddenly braked hard and made a last second lurch for the exit. To compound matters I had a big truck bearing down on my rear now that I had braked and changed lanes, so my effort to get my engine revs up by hitting the throttle early backfired, apparently then causing the throttle to fail for 1-2 seconds, leaving me sitting there with a huge truck bearing down on my rear and going too fast to stop. Luckily, my throttle finally re-engaged and I was able to give full power just in time to escape being rear-ended by the big and fast-moving truck. (I also reported this throttle failure to Maserati service, but they were unable to correct the problem.)
