Used 2004 Lexus RX 330 Consumer Reviews
Rattle and thud
Has been in the shop to fix rattle for three days. It has come back again. Transmission is not smooth at all and transfers with a thud. Dealership tried to fix it and replaced the software to no avail. Very disappointed! Dealership and service department are great
Engine noise too loud
When accelerating the engine noise is loud and rough. It doesn't have the smoothness of a Lexus sedan. I wonder if Toyota forgot to put extra sound barriers around the engine. Paid a whole lot of money for a car that sound really cheap.

Lemon by design
Don't trust other reviews. This vehicle has many issues impacting driveability, reliability and safety. We've had to replace the power steering rack on ours several times due to leaks that would have eventually resulted in an unsafe failure state. The throttle response is terrible, and the vehicle tends to lurch and surge when you least expect. Transmission hunts, skips and juggles gears resulting in rough and unpredictable on-power drive feel. The radiator is known to burst as well. The anti-roll bar mounts are prone to cracking along the length of the part, suggesting poor quality cast parts in the suspension. This car should never have made it into production, avoid at all costs.
The RX 330 "has no clothes!"
Seats do not compare to our Porsche or SAAB. Tilt function is simply inflation of seat's leading edge. Arm rest way too short to be useful. Major fatigue on long trips, never really get adjusted. Lines of sight to check for vehicles in prep for lane change are awful. Again, comparison is to SAAB and Porsche. Throttle response delay is shameful and dangerous. Toyota excuses it as computer seeking correct response -- lame. No road feel. Wind noise and engine noise unacceptable for Lexus -- had an LS 430 that was whisper quiet. It was great in all respects -- this 330 is not great in any respect -- below average in many. Sorry we bought it within a month of purchase date.
4 Months and It's Gone
I traded my GMC Yukon for my RX330 to be very disappointed. I was very excited to hop on the "Lexus Reliability" boat and got a 2004 with only 60k miles on it. Within the first week of owning it the check engine light came on, shortly followed by the passenger air bag going out, needing all new power steering fluid (which had to go back to the dealer twice to actually get done correctly) and my transmission fluid was a mess. All of that I could forgive, its a used car, things happen. But the thing that I couldn't forgive... There was a hole in the frame of the car somewhere that leaked when it rained. It filled the floorboards up with water and soaked through the foam, and the carpets.
