2023 Niro EX is very practical, but it's not SUV

2023 Kia Niro EX 4dr SUV (1.6L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid 6AM)

I've had my EX for 2 months now. I'm really liking it. It gets super gas mileage in ECO mode which I use almost all the time. I've been getting about 53 mpg (using a lot of regen braking). The ride quality is pretty good considering the wheel/tire size. It could be improved if the wheel/tire size is increased but then you wouldn't have the super mileage it gets. By comparison I believe the Prius wheels/tires are even smaller so I think this is a good compromise. The build quality is very high, to me almost feels like a luxury car. I was blown away when the sales lady popped the hood at the dealership to have hood raise up by a pair of gas struts. 1st car I've ever owned that doesn't have the prop rod. Interior room is very generous. It has very roomy back seats. 4 adults can ride very comfortably in this car. For me it would have been better to have cramped rear seats and a bit more cargo room behind the seats since we have no kids, just 2 small dogs. The seats are very comfortable. In fact that was one of the selling points for me. One of the more comfortable car seats I've ever sat in. Since the driver seat is all electric it can remember the adjustment settings between different drivers. There is a lot of tech in this car which I'm still getting used to since I'm coming from a 2003 Subaru. Kia recommends you either use top tier gas or add fuel treatment on a regular basis. I'm using Chevron gas which isn't a big deal given that I'm getting 53mpg. Kia classifies this as an SUV which is kind of silly. It's a compact hybrid wagon, 2wd. As a compact hybrid wagon I would say it should be at the top of your list if that's what you are in the market for. I think the Niro will give the Prius some serious competition. I kept my 2003 Subaru for times when I do need an SUV such as the snow storm we recently had.

After being a customer with Hyundai for 15 yrs I’ve decided to switch to Kia. Kia brand appears to be much more futuristic, both exterior and interior . So far I’ve enjoyed this EX touring Niro hybrid. May not look that big but it does have plenty interior space.Nice modern looking dash Ride is pretty good just remember this vehicle only cost 33 grand but has quite a few options Wish I stepped up to the SX version but a few more options I would like to have, but on the lot models were kinda limited. One thing I miss is the upgrade sound system. Again for 33 grand delivers enough power as far as I’m concerned Nice Navigation system and delivers what’s on the sticker as far as MPG . Lowest reading was 47 and highest was 52 mpg. Will keep you up to date as time goes on in my Kia UPDATE: My four month update w 2,500 miles on it. Still enjoy my E X touring . If driving aggressively and what I mean is keeping up with traffic on the highway in Jersey your mileage drops to about 37-39 MPG , otherwise around town 45-49 MPG. Climate and audio controls at first I thought it was pretty cool but now find it annoying taking your eyes off the road to toggle between radio and climate controls Update 17 months 15,000 miles As of May 2024 car still running fine No issues other than the GPS half of the streets Does not display on the screen had a reset of the GPS from the dealership but still the same Car gets usually 54 MPG city driving, Highway 42

Update: August 26, 2024: 21,600 miles. Calculated cumulative fuel consumption between 8,000 and 20,000 miles: 53.7 mpg. OEM (Nexen) tires wore quickly. Replaced on July 8 with Goodyear Assurance MaxLife. Much quieter. No significant issues in first 20,000 miles. Still the best car I have ever owned. Update: August 22, 2023: 8,000 mile service on August 4, 2023. No significant issues since purchase. However, hydraulic fluid reservoir for engine actuator clutch appears to have been grossly overfilled at the factory, and was badly contaminated at 2,900 miles. I sucked out the contaminated fluid and replaced it with fresh DOT-4. Repeated at 6,000 miles. Service manager looked at my photo of contaminated vs fresh fluid, and agreed to replace and flush as part of 8,000 mile service. Calculated cumulative fuel consumption between 3,000 and 8,000 miles was 51.8 mpg. _______________________________________________________________________ I was looking for something with more cargo room than my 2018 Buick Encore, and originally thought I wanted a Kia Sportage HEV. After a test drive of both a Niro and a Sportage, I decided that the Niro SX was a better fit for my needs. The Niro has significantly more cargo space than the Encore, better handling and performance and gas mileage, far better ergonomics, and about the same ride and seat comfort. My Niro is approaching 2,000 miles and even after 7 weeks of ownership, it seems like I discover new features every week. On a 900 mile road trip, with a passenger and about 300 pounds of cargo, it averaged 46 MPG; for mixed urban/suburban driving it is averaging 54 MPG. Power has not been an issue; it climbed to steep grades across the Appalachians without running out of breath. In 58 years of owning cars, the Niro is the first car I have ever fallen in love with.

my 2nd Niro, this 2023 EX hybrid is great

I had the 2018 Niro LX and drove that to 100K miles and decided to trade it in on a new one when it came out. I liked the old one and it never had any problems besides oil changes. I drive for those rideshare companies so I put on about 1,000 miles per week. Overall I give it 5 stars because all of my complaints are little things. Most are the same for the new one. Even if this sounds like a lot of negatives they are all small things. I will probably buy another one when this one gets old. Here are the good parts for anyone interested in buying one: I just have mine in eco mode with the regenerative braking at normal and I am getting usually 60mpg, but sometimes it goes between 58-64 depending on where I'm driving. My old one was always getting 60 also until I changed the tires then it dropped to 54. So I assume the same will happen to this because I'm pretty sure they are running with low rolling resistance tires and I will want something quieter and softer when it comes time to change. It comes with all the safety features that the old one didn't. It has blind spot monitoring which has saved me already, adaptive cruise control which I don't use, auto steering on the freeways which I turned off because I don't like my wheel moving on its own. It has a better backup camera than the old one, especially at night. It has lane departure warning which I turned off because it beeps so much. It has an upgraded suspension so it rides a little smoother, I noticed that right away. It also has more sound deadening which I noticed right away, but it it still noisy. The back area is bigger than the old one so it can hold more suitcases and the floor can drop down a little which helps. The dash looks amazing and I get lots of compliments when people get in the car. It has charging port on the sides of the front seats too, so people in the back can charge up without me having the run a cable back there like I used to. Now for the stuff that bugs me: 1. The dealers and their ridiculous markups. This was being advertised for $35K which was $5K over MSRP. Every dealer in my area was doing this. Then trying to say it's because of inflation and costs of labor, which is total BS. I was able to eventually get this EX for $28K which is the LX MSRP. I went in wanting the LX but since the dealers were just ordering the higher trims at the time, they didn't have one. When they asked why I wanted that one I said I didn't need the fake leather seats the EX comes with, nor the metal wheels I will just scrape up. I also didn't need the navigation screen since my phones do that when I am working. So in order to get the sale they gave me the EX for the LX price, but then tried to lowball me on my trade in, so I gave it to Carmax for $4K more. Then he asks me to send some referrals but don't say what I paid because he won't do this deal for other people. So why would I send friends to go pay more than they should? I hate dealers. 2. The intermittent wipers dial is useless. The car has a sensor that detects rain and adjusts the speed of the wipers accordingly...in theory. But just like my BMW that had this feature it doesn't work properly. Sometimes it doesn't go when the glass is covered in rain and I can't see and other times it is going full speed like crazy when there is barely a drop on the window. Please just make the dial like a timer so I can control the speed. 3. The little knob that controls the volume/temperature is so small every time I try to touch it my knuckle touches the auto-climate button next to it which then goes and changes all of the heater and vent controls. Either make the knob stick out more so we can grab it, or just make a separate area for the different controls instead of trying to be cute and having 1 touch panel handle the temps and radio. 4. The radio power on the stock unit is awful. I don't know how the fancy upgraded one sounds but the stock needs a big upgrade. I added an underseat sub just to give it some lows that it didn't have before, but the unit has to be turned up so loud to hear music over the road noise that it needs it's own amp. And don't forget, I drive rideshare so I don't play it loud anyway since there are always people in the backseat. Having even a 50watt per channel boost will help a lot. 5. The sideblade thing is just a design choice that they tried to justify adding by saying it helps wind resistance. But the air just goes to the same place it would go if it wasn't there, and the mpg is the same. Most I have seen for sale have the panel the body color already, and I think it only comes in gray or black anyway. But it will really just be a place for pine needles to get stuck in and you'll have to blow it out when washing the car. Just say it is Audi R8 inspired design and leave it at that. 6. The EX comes with everything inside being gloss black which shows dust and fingerprints like crazy. The LX has a matte surface. But it also has a bigger screen which looks better than the small one in a square cut out like the LX has. It also comes with fake leather seats which I'm not sure how long they will last. We will see. I prefer cloth. 7. Finally my biggest complaint, power. This thing is slow. Our other car is a Camry hybrid which blows this thing away. I get 10+mpg more in this than we do in the Camry, but the Camry is much quieter and goes up hills easily. The engine in this car sounds like a semi truck when you are trying to go up a hill. Especially if you stopped on a hill to drop someone off and then try to go. It does not want to get out of second gear and when it gets close to 3,000 RPM it is so incredibly loud I can't believe it. I try to force it into 3rd by going into manual mode but I shouldn't have to. I think the redline must be 3200 judging by the noise it makes. It sounds like I am revving the heck out of it when I'm not. It just has no power. Getting onto the freeway you need lots of room. I know this sounds like a lot of complaining, but believe me, it is a good car and I am going to consider getting a 3rd one when the time comes. Unless the Seltos becomes hybrid by then since it has AWD or some other AWD hybrid comes down in price. The Sorento and Rav4 AWD hybrids cost too much. So we will see what is available in 2 years.

I run long haul auto parts delivery so, although I have a 2023, as of May, mine has 45,000+ miles and increasing by about 2500 miles a week. In warm weather, I get about 43mpg on my mostly highway route and about 48 at lower urban speeds. Fairly disappointing figures considering the rating of 53 city/ 54 highway. Hybrids always suffer at higher speeds so I am not sure why it's rated this way. Context is everything so here is how it compares to other vehicles I've ran on this same 500 mile per day route; 2022 Sienna Hybrid: rated 36 hwy, actual 32-35, avg 33 (best ever 36) 2017 Pacifica non-hybrid: rated 28, actual 27-30, avg 28 (best ever 31mpg) 2007 Prius: rated 51 hwy, actual 42-44 (best 46) 2023 Niro: rated 54 hwy, actual 42-45 (best 49) These are fairly accurate figures and were calculated using same pump refills dividing gallons replenished into trip miles which were cross referenced with garmin trips. I can get 54mpg city but only if I hyper-mile. 55hwy only if i stay below 55mph. This car is a bit more boxy than a Prius and has a drag of .31 to the Prius .27 so will obviously not get the same fuel economy. There are a few quirks to note; The piano black console looks dirty constantly. Please, auto makers, stop using this stuff! Rattling sound emanating from the turn signal stalk. It is mild and only at 15-25mph. If I hold the stalk, the sound stops. The passenger side B pillar door trim clicks like a button if you push on it. My 2022 Toyota Sienna had that same piece of trim fly off the van with less than 10k miles on it so we're improving with this Kia! The rear doors and hatch tend to need considerable follow through to close. I drive Lyft part time on top of my auto parts route and passengers constantly have to reopen and shut the door harder to latch. If you change your oil, the filter and drain plug both have little doors that you have to carefully remove and painstakingly reattach using those retarded push/pry fasteners. I tore the doors off and threw them in the trash. And you can't fit a filter wrench in the opening to tighten or loosen the filter so you have to take the whole underneath panel off which uses those same terrible press fasteners. Took about a half hour to loosen my filter the first oil change. Now I just hand tighten/loosen and hope for the best. Good times!! The dual purpose auto climate/ radio feature is terrible. I would switch to radio to use the main knob to adjust the volume and later forget and reach to turn up the defrost fan higher to clear the fog and suddenly have the stereo blasting at max volume!!!!! Now I just keep it on climate and use the steering wheel up/down to slowly adjust. Yet, because the knob for the volume/ climate fan speed is small, my fingers will regularly brush against the adjacent touch screen. One small caress and it throws everything out of wack. You then have to sit there adjusting different buttons to return it. No, I don't want auto climate: click manual-- No I goddamn don't want the defrost on high: turn it back down-- WHY IS THE AIR ONLY COMING OUT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE!!! There is a nifty feature that has the recirculate come on automatically when you enter a tunnel. But it comes on randomly sometimes. One night I had to turn it off five times in ten minutes. So you have to keep an eye on it esp. at night so your windscreen doesn't start to fog. Speaking of adjusting controls. Because I drive 10 hours a day, I like to listen to podcasts. But I also like taking a break with music. Bass up with music and down with people talking. Simple enough! At least it use to be when we had that beautiful bass knob right there on the dash. Now, you have to swipe the screen, hit settings, then hit sound, then find the tone button amidst the many other options, then hit the bass button over and over again until the screen recognizes your finger. That's four button filled menus to adjust the bass. Four! The original tires only lasted 25k (I drive 90% hwy and always got 50k+). A tire pressure sensor reads 7lbs low in one tire since new tires were installed. Perhaps the tire shop damaged it. Dealer wants $400 to replace it! But the very worst feature of this car and a reason not to buy it is the fact that there is NO INTERRUPT FEATURE FOR THE WIPERS!! Yes, you heard me. If it's not raining, no big deal. If it's raining heavily, fine, just turn the wipers to the on position. But if it's lightly raining, you have to manually bump the stalk to clear the rain if you want to see without having the wipers slide across dry glass making that lovely sound. Now there is an auto setting where the sensor decides how often to wipe. But it is awful. It works right once and a while but typically, it doesn't come on often enough though sometimes it comes on too fast. And when you are driving in winter and there is a light salt sheen forming it will make sure to turn on high suddenly, smearing salt across your screen. There are four settings (auto low through auto high) but this is essentially just a decoy. Low is too fast half the time and high is too slow the other half of the time. Funny, I think I remember this feature wherein you would pick a setting and it the wipers would come on at preset intervals. I seem to remember that working really well. But it's okay. Now I get to exercise my right arm. Now that I'm done complaining, I can say that I am mostly happy with the car. The ride is decent, considering it's a hatchback, the seats are comfortable and supportive with my EX edition with adjustable lumbar. At 6'0" I can ride high like an SUV with the seat up and my legs fully stretched forward between the pedals and a very adjustable telescope wheel in easy reach. I tend to have back and neck pain after a few hours into my trip with other vehicles. My Sienna was so bad I had to sell it after only a couple months. This car is really good. Not as good as my Pacifica but as good as my Outback. The brake regeneration feature is interesting. You can push the brake a little to utilize the full regen feature without engaging the brake. I know this because I don't see the brake lights come on at night but see full bars on the regen meter. I can charge the battery to full sometimes if I have a long 5% grade and then go electric only for over 3 miles when I get to the bottom if it's relatively flat. I've occasionally gone 4-5 miles like this before the motor kicked back on. And mine is the standard hybrid, not the plug-in. The best feature with this car is the lane centering feature. You can turn on lane assist or whatever Kia's version is and take your hands off the wheel for anywhere from 15 seconds if you are going fast and the highway has harder curves to up to 2 minutes if the road is straight. Then the dash flashes and you just tug the wheel to reset. I used to attach a 1lb exercise ankle weight to the side of the wheel on my '23 Outback which would trick the sensor into thinking a human was applying a slight pull input and the car would self drive for a really long time. I once did over an hour with the cruise set, completely hands free. Could have taken a nap!! Okay, don't try that, you'll wake up dead! The weight doesn't work on the Kia but it's better than my Sienna (15sec every time). I am happy with this car over all. No car is perfect. I am crossing my fingers that this one lasts to the half million mile mark on its original engine like my 2017 Pacifica did (youtube).

I owned a 2017 for almost 6 years. Loved it. Got average of 55 MPG. My new 2023 is awesome. Since my purchase average mpg 58 to 62. i get up to speed and let off the gas pedal and the niro goes to battery. I live in florida, so granted very few hills. Plus warm weather. When 50° or below mileage drops a bit. i have gone on short in town trips and have gotten 80 plus mpg.

Moved up to this Kia Niro Touring model from a 2013 Soul. It's like going from a covered wagon to a space ship. Amazing amount of features. All the safety driving tech like lane monitoring, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, etc. I was on a busy Interstate highway today. Set the speed for 70 mph. Set the safe distance for the car in front for 10 car lengths. The car, by itseft, maintained the lane through curves and slowed or sped up based on what the car in front was doing. While I was touching the steering wheel, the car did all the work. Also, the engine turns off and on depending on the load. The only was to know is looking at the tach. If it's at 0.0, the gas engine is off. You don't feel or hear anything while the engine does it's thing. The car is much more roomy than on would expect. I'm 6"2' and I don't have the the electric seat all the way back. The huge dash entertainment page and is completely easy to see in the bright Florida sunshine. I was originally looking at the Sportage but this car completely fit the bill for me. The car, based on the model, comes completely equipped with no options to speak of. UPDATE: Just passed my one year anniversary of owning this car. So far, the Niro has been trouble free. I don't drive very much and only have 3,500 miles on the clock. I did do an oil change, if not for the mileage but for the original oil being a year old. In checking the owners manual, that's all that needed doing at this point. I have read on owners forums that there is an issue with the brake fluid that is used in the dual clutch actuator. Reports state that the fluid gets very cloudy with a white deposit in the reservoir. Sure enough I noticed the DOT 4 brake fluid in the actuator reservoir was more cloudy than the brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. There was also some white particles clinging to the bottom of the reservoir. It is easy to disconnect the reservoir tank and clean it out. I did so, reinstalled and then poured in fresh brake fluid to the fill line. There are online videos suggesting you do this at every oil change. Just replacing the fluid in the reservoir tank doesn't replace all the fluid but it is thought doing the above at every oil change will keep the brake fluid fresh enough. As Kia has a 100k/10 year warranty on the drive train I'm assuming this would be covered if it turns out to be a serious problem. Update. Still enjoying my now 3 year old Niro. It's been trouble free and a perfect vehicle for now $4 gas at I'm still getting 50 mpg.

Kia hit a home run with the fun, reliable Niro EX 2023. Kia combined the advanced driving assistance system with user friendly instrument panel, sustainable materials for the spacious interior and snappy driving experience. Kia gives the driver many options to tailor their experience: Smart key/Remote start, or digital key 2 smart phone access, Driver 1 and 2 auto seating adjustments, Blue tooth-Apple or Android and Kia connect for your smart phone. A sleek driver display panel and center consul don't distract and are easy to navigate and synced with the steering instrument controls for easy operation. Convenient Multimedia USB ports, 12 volt and wireless phone charging. The astonishing 53mpg is a winner at this price point.

It seems that the reviews are missing the Sport Mode feature on this Kia. Hit Sport mode, the second clutch kicks in and the acceleration is much better. It is a great feature and blows my wife's Prius out of the water.

First three weeks in the Kia Niro 2023

2023 Kia Niro LX 4dr SUV (1.6L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid 6AM)

My last (and only car, the one I inherited as a 17 year old close to a decade ago now) was a 2012 Lexus ct200h. My comparison is really only to that. The Kia Niro 2023 so far compares -interior and size wise- to the 2023 Mazda cx - 30. The Mazda felt closer to the Lexus luxury-wise. But the Kia is still spiffy and spacious. It smelled badly of off gassing plastic when I got it, but the plastic sheeting was still on the seats when I drove it off the lot with 5 miles on it. The gas milage has been consistently at ~51 mpg driving around the suburbs of DC. It handles well in rain, but it does not accelerate quickly in eco mode. You can not play aggressive east coast driver in this car if you’re in eco mode. Sport mode will let you, obviously at a cost to fuel efficiency. The car takes tight turns well, is very easy to park and feels like a nice medium between a sedan and a suv. I can comfortably drive the four teen girls I babysit to sports practice with their gear. Compared to the decade old Lexus hybrid, the Kia gets better gas milage, has better visibility, and feels sturdier on the road. The blind spot detection is really nice, as is the lane assistance/cruise control. The apple CarPlay is well integrated and smooth - something I wasn’t used to with the Lexus and the screen is at a nice height for following the GPS. The brakes can be a little grippy at times, but that could be an issue my driving. While I was on a budget and confined to the LX base trim, I do think it would be worth it to upgrade the trim if you can. I say this only because I have to manually lock the car (press the button on the key instead of tapping the handle to unlock) and also have to physically turn the key to start the car. That is my biggest complaint with the car, and barely one at that. I’m very happy with the car I chose, so far.

We first leased an SX Touring, mineral blue with a black aero-blade. A lot of folks complement us on the vehicle. It’s got virtually everything I want in a vehicle: auto cruise control, all other driving safety features, power lift gate, memory seats, heated steering wheel, heated/ventilated seats, and much more. We are getting almost 50 mpg—wow! Liking it so much, I traded in my 2020 Honda CTV Touring Hybrid (averaging 39.3 mpg) for an SX model. It’s virtually the same as the Touring with what’s important to me. Averaging 52.6 mpg—double wow!! I bought this one and, more than likely, will buy the Touring, too.

I purchased the vehicle on 9/1/2023. I've got just under 2,000 miles on it. My commute is about 25 miles one way on a 60/40 hwy/city loop. I'm averaging about 51 mpg driving 70-80 on the highway and usually closer to 75-80. My last car shared a lot of the running gear with this. We still have a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid SEL with no tech package. Both use the 1.6, but now the Niro doesn't have a reverse gear, just uses the EV motor. The Ioniq because of its shape is more aerodynamic, weighs slightly less, so returns marginally (2-4mpg) better gas mileage, depending on how quickly I drive. The Niro is nearly 4 inches taller, and this time I didn't skimp and buy what was on the lot. The dealership found the exact car I was looking for in about a month's time. The only features it doesn't have are the bigger wheels(which I didn't want, bc the fuel impact) and the LED headlights (not worth 2+K cost). The Ioniq I bought in 2018 didn't have Highway driving assist, or any of the excellent driver aids. I really made a mistake not purchasing that in the Ioniq. The Niro can literally drive better than me at times. Other reviewers who complain about beeping of lane warning etc, are driving bad and the car is warning them of it. If you engage the auto-steering it won't beep because it will fix your bad driving. Also, if you're passing too closely it also beeps, to warn you are making an unsafe maneuver, which again isn't the car working improperly, it is you making a risky move. I am so appreciative of the driving aids and use them every trip, because it decreases the demand on me when I am driving. Night and Day, when I drive the Ioniq, it needs lots of steering inputs to continue driving straight versus the Niro that just needs your hand on the wheel to provide occasional inputs so the car knows you are still holding the wheel. Having driven this hybrid system for nearly 5 years including my time with the Ioniq there are a couple of things to know when trying to get the best mileage out of the system. Manufacturer tires are generally more efficient than the replacement tires you will buy. Also your tire pressure is critical, if you do not maintain the correct pressure, your mileage will be impacted (4-8mpg) so paying attention to that is important. Hilly driving conditions will impact mileage too. Ambient temperature and use of the climate control can significantly impact mileage (5-12 mpg). This is more for cold weather as the air conditioner will run on electricity, but the heater uses the engine to produce heat. Additionally winter gas is less energy dense because of additives so mileage will decrease because of that too. Additionally cold weather makes the battery less efficient. In the coldest of weather (-5F) with climate control, winter gas, my fast driving and probably not optimal tire pressure would net me 42 mpg in the Ioniq. This is still respectable given the conditions. In my old 2012 Ford Focus that was about the size of the Ioniq would get low twenties in that weather. The last thing that can have a big impact is the speed at which you drive. If I drive the Niro at a strict 70 on the highway, I have gotten more than 54 mpg. Unfortunately, I’m too impatient and don’t like driving that slow. When I drove home at 80 and accelerated aggressively, I got a little bit more than 48 mpg on the trip. Take all these factors together and yes, your mileage probably won’t match the lab tested numbers that aren’t truly representative of normal driving. I’m still extremely happy with it. I love all the tech features. Love the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. Getting the SX means it has additional side glass lamination, so if you want a quieter cabin, you have to get an SX or more. The one upgrade I bought aftermarket which I highly recommend, especially if your phone has wireless charging capabilities is to buy a wireless apple carplay or android auto dongle so that you don’t have to plug in your phone. My old phone wasn’t new enough to work with the dongle, but my new phone is and it really impacts how you interact with the car because you don’t ever have to plug in your phone to the car again. What a game changer, kinda like push button start, once you have it you never want to go back. [Dealer experience redacted]

I really like my 2023 Kia Niro. I have the hybrid model and routinely get 58.3 mpg. My last car, a 2010 INFINITI G37x got between 16-21, so I’m ecstatic. When I went to test drive cars, I was in a hurry because the engine quit on my INFINITI and I needed something ASAP. I looked at the Hyundai Sonata and the Niro and REALLY preferred the Niro. I drove it and bought it the same day. Compared to my G37x, the car stereo isn’t quite as nice, though it sounds good. I had the Bose system previously and it was stellar. The road noise is more noticeable on the Niro. My G was pretty quiet (other than engine noise). The safety tech and the gas mileage more than make up for those short comings in my opinion. What I really like is that the car is very stylish and modern, the safety features work really well. I sold cars for INFINITI in 2018 and their blind spot monitor was unreliable, but the one on the Niro is perfect. I’ve never had it miss a car. The car basically drives itself when on intelligent cruise control. The lane keep does pull to the left side slightly, and when driving on mountain roads, it picked up on the car in the next lane over and slowed down. I don’t like that it brakes WAYYYY TOO LATE when using cruise control and coming up to a stop light. If there isn’t a car in front of you, it stops really fast and it’s scary. It’ll also slow way down and alert you to stopping cars a bit too sensitively. Better safe than sorry? I wish there were more USB ports (regular, not “C”) in the front area. There is one regular that I use for my dash cam, one I use for USB music, and one type C. I wish they had one in the center console, too. I’ve hauled an entire lounge chair in the back, so there’s plenty of room. Comfortably fit 4 adults inside. The toggle between the radio and climate control is a bit annoying, but you get used to it. I miss old school buttons…. Overall, the car is great. I love it. I’m extremely picky as a person, and this ticked off my boxes. I think I may have a few days in the snow here where I can’t get around because it doesn’t have AWD, and I did get stuck already during a big storm last winter, but I just won’t push it in the future. I drive for work going to client’s homes, so I’m excited about the cheap fill ups I get at the gas station. Super cute car.

After buying this 2023 Niro Ex in October of 2022 car was really great especially on gas.Now 14k miles later ( not even 1 year old ) car broke down being parked in garage.Dead hybrid battery(12v battery reset does not help) Road side assistance came to “jump started “ after 4 h of waiting. Car was towed to a Kia dealer and now sitting for few days and nothing was found, they don’t know what to do and I got no car and no loaner from a Kia dealer. If car brakes down so fast it must be way far from being reliable.

* Car drives well and has lots of interesting tech features * USB port works inconsistently -- I've tried different cables and still doesn't work properly. * Apple Carplay disconnects at random due to USB issue, so navigation and entertainment becomes unavailable.

I have almost 20K miles on my white LX. Great Lakes winters and still 52 MPG average! 50/50 highway/city use. The car is very comfortable (6'2") and smooth. A bit more noise on rough surfaces than my previous VW. The sound system and wireless Apple car play work well. LOTS of backs seat room and reasonable storage. I have had many compliments on the design.

My 2023 Niro is 18 months old with 33000 miles. It has averaged 50.3 mpg. We have had no problem's. Plenty of power to get on the local turn pike. We are a retired couple that like to travel. The Niro is comfortable on long trips with plenty of room for our luggage. This is our fifth Kia. Have had nothing but good luck with all of them.

You’re looking to buy a 2023 Kia Niro hybrid, my advice is to purchase literally any other car. Three weeks into my four year lease with the temporary tags and plastic still on the floor mats, this car just abruptly stopped in the middle of the road saying hybrid system failure. It has 1100 miles. What a joke.

Pros- nice looking, economical, enough power. Cons- no spare tire of any kind, limited cargo area, have had issues with dash light screen going out, like driving with turned off tv screen. So far dealer unable to locate problem. So sorry I decided to purchase Kia product with so many other brands available!

44mpg is what I'm averaging on my new Niro EX. The up-to-date safety features, comfort, and, of course, the mpg on this hybrid are what I was looking for. That said, getting off from a standing stop is a bit slow. But once you get the feel of the automatic (not cvt) transmission , you'd be fine with it UPDATE: I love my Niro hybrid. The only problem is the difficulty of switching functions on the 12" control panel, which can be very distracting while driving.

Buying a car is like speed dating—you're given twenty minutes to figure out if there is a possibility of romance. It's a terrible way to buy car. File under :" If I only knew now what I didn't then" I would have passed on this car. First and foremost is the utterly complex and anti-intuitive dash panel. To get to the radio, you need to switch the air conditioning button—one is always shutting off either radio or the air, and at some point, it is exhausting. Who thought this was a good idea? Basically all panel controls have some anti-intuitive aspect to them. I have owned mine for less than a year and I can't swear but my mileage is decreasing. Do I need top get service already? AND, there is already a recall on my model (wind). Lastly, there is the sad and succinct fact that very often you leave the car only to be reminded that the engine is still on...yes, it is that quiet, but also that annoying. To say I. have regrets about his purchases is putting it mildly. A year in here is the update: Electric cars require planning. You cannot simply get in the car and drive—you MUST take into account how many miles you have, where the charging stations are, and have a ALOT of patience. There are few charging stations and they often have long waits. The other factor is that not quite revealed is that if you are driving on a freeway at a fast speed, your mileage will DECREASE significantly. About that interior control panel (radio, air, etc.) I have never disliked any car feature more. I have in fact, looked into getting in and any car that does not have this car's media panel. It is a nightmare. It is one of the worst thought out systems, and dangerous. It requires a lot of attention while driving, while you should be keeping your eyes on the road. So, for the moment, an unhappy Kia buyer. Still.

The pros: The car is efficient! great gas mileage, spacious; all the things people have already said they liked about it. The heated seats are nice. If you're looking to buy a car that will be cheaper to drive once you own it, why not this one? The cons: How come it seems that every major advancement in the last few years has been to make cars more annoying? I have turned off every so-called "safety" feature and still the car backseat drive's me like a bitter spouse. Things I cannot turn off: - Wrong-way detection (It has been wrong every single time because a car is incapable of understanding temporary lane splitting). - Steering wheel vibration/beeping if I want to keep lane collision lights on. - "smart" cruise control: there is no dedicated speed cruise control. - Location tracking And in no particular order, here are my other gripes about this car: 1. The center console area has a shiny black plastic, which looks slick but collects fingerprints and dust in the most visible possible way, as a bonus it also is reflective enough to get in your eyes on occasion. 2. Nowhere on the steering wheel or in the 'small' touch panel is there a 'pause' button. I repeat, there is no easy pause button. Instead, there is a 'mute button' that I occasionally press by accident and do not need. 3. Plugging a phone in to charge will automatically connect it to apple carplay/ google auto. If you are privacy conscious, your apple carplay will not work unless you give Apple permission to give them all your data in exchange for the 'benefits' of siri. If you use an android device that's been degoogled, android auto will not work. However, you can not simply connect the phone via bluetooth while it is plugged in, so you must plug it in to a cigarette adapter in order to charge while listening to music. The pause button is hidden behind the 'media' screen in this case, but! You cannot access the media screen if an iphone without apple carplay is plugged in and charging. In that case therefor your only choice is to change media on your phone. 4. Let's talk about that 'screen bar' or whatever it's called. I thought I would get used to it, but I haven't. It's bad that all of the buttons there could be one of two things unless I look to confirm. It switches between 'favorites' which I dont need and volume which I do, and control over AC/heating which I also need. As it's touch sensitive, I often bump my hand while adjusting one or the other, switching the action I am taking mid-action. I will never buy a car with this sort of arrangement again in my life. 5. Every car is uncomfortable on long enough drives - that's a fact of mid-range cars. This one gives me a neck cramp reliably on any 1hour+ drive, no matter how many different ways I've adjust the seat and headrest. 6. The auto crash detection believes that cars turning are just fully stopped and will blare an alarm alongside flashing red lights when this happens. If you live in a city, this is constant, and makes for a deeply unpleasant drive. 7. There are a bunch of buttons in this car I will never use including dedicated Kia whatever service buttons, which makes the absence of a dedicated 'pause' button all the more bewildering. I'm serious, why is that missing?? 8. You cannot turn off surveillance properties on the car. The location tracking is always on, despite nobody I know using a car's built in map. 9. There is no 3.5mm headphone input. I know this is where things are trending, but my last car had it, and it worked fine- great even! 8. Oh yeah! If you're listening to something on bluetooth while someone else is charging their phone, if they accidentally listen to something, such as an instagram reel, it will switch focus to their audio, pausing yours. There is a hierarchy of audio input choice, and the one at the top is not the one you explicitly are listening to, which is nuts. 9. It's almost all touchscreens so you better believe you're taking your eyes off the road to adjust something. 10. The oil change reminder would be fine, except that it bothers you about it for weeks, if not months. So I turned that off too. Buddy I know. 11. If you need to refill your tires, the car will absolutely blast you. This is reasonable, however you need to refill it all the way up- it will not stop yelling if you fill the tire 95% of the way. 12. I turned off the 'safety' features because they will make your car lock up at the absolute worst times: trying to make a 3 point turn around? there's a car 25 feet from you, so the brakes are applied. Someone is trying to push their way in front of you in locked up traffic? you might crash! Better lock up the brakes! I am by no means an aggressive driver, but if you live in a city, you know that being overly 'kind' essentially puts you in park in rush hour traffic. This car will not let you drive yourself. 13. Overall: This car will not shut [non-permissible content removed] up. It is a frustrating car to drive and makes me wish I had simply bought something from a decade earlier. I have been driving it for a year now.

To start off- I do truly love my 2023 Kia Niro SX. It has a lot of bells and whistles that the base versions of many cars that cost tens of thousands more don't even include, like ventilated front seats and comprehensive and well-designed ADAS features. I would buy my car again in a heartbeat, and have in fact recommended it to several friends who love theirs too!

This is my first hybrid (only 1 month with it), and the Niro fits the bill for my needs. It was purchased Certified Used, 22k miles from a Kia dealership. I needed something with better gas mileage than my old Santa Fe. So far my Niro is averaging 46 mpg with mixed hwy/city driving, twice what I was getting with the SF. I bought the car during the winter, so we'll see if the mpg improves even more as the weather warms up. Space behind the back seats is fine, better than a Soul I used to own, but not as much as the SF of course. Other pros: The car is comfortable to drive, and generally not noisy. Quieter than the Soul. Acceleration is fine given the engine size (1.6L). This LX has more standard features than any other base model I've owned (blind spot monitoring, heated side mirrors, auto high beams, etc). Cons: I understand the complaints about the climate/audio touch panel. But since I rarely use the radio (instead I use my cell for music & SiriusXM thru the car's bluetooth), the panel is most always on the climate option. I can adjust the volume and maneuver thru my saved tunes on the steering wheel. I hate digital speedometers! But they're all going in that direction unfortunately. My biggest complaint concerns the warrantee with regard to the battery. While the battery itself is covered, anything connected to it isn't. In order to get complete and total coverage (which I felt I needed as a rookie hybrid owner), I needed to purchase extended coverage. Potential hybrid owners should carefully check this! Find out what is covered and what is not! Overall, though, I'm a happy camper.
