Used 1998 Isuzu Trooper Consumer Reviews
Best vehicle I've owned
I've had Toyota, Mazda (twice) and BMW, but found my 1998 Isuzu Trooper to be, hands down, the most reliable and FUN vehicle to date. It's great off road and makes you feel secure in mountain snow and the wilds of Mexico. The size is ideal for threading through the desert scrub and squeezing into that "compact-only" parking space, while allowing you to pile items to the roof inside. The best.
Good SUV
The only downsides are low gas mileage, slow acceleration and soft suspension. No mechanical problems after 4 years.
Thom's Trooper
Excellent vehicle with no mechanical issues. I provide oil changes every 3000 miles and this vehicle has been very dependable.
Bang for the Buck
Great truck with lots of room and power! On a trip to Florida, loaded with 5 passengers, clothes and coolers for a 10 day trip, the trooper averaged above 20 mpg. I have driven more than 60,000 miles and except for new tires and a battery, have spent nothing. This truck is still on its original brakes and light bulbs!AMAZING!! The Trooper is the most underated SUV on our planet!
Family Car - kids, skiing and offroading
Great, save for engine trouble (mini me?) At 65,000 miles, the engine went out. McKenna Isuzu in HB, CA was able to get us a short block for free & charged us about half (~$700) on labor. This could have cost us $4,500. While this one was just out of warranty, newer Troopers have 120,000 mile warranties, so that may have played a part. We have been a customer of this dealership for 15 years - maybe even that played a part. My first Trooper, a 1986, went 190,000 with only a water pump and exhaust manifold replaced. My wife drives it - and loves it. I use it for desert camping, skiing and long family trips. It's big on the inside and small on the outside.
