Great vehicle overall, nice job Hyundai!
I purchased a 2022 Santa Fe Limited in Lagoon Blue and have been really impressed. The vehicle is incredibly comfortable, has great technology, plenty of room for 5 tall adults, awesome surround sound system, handles well and has good fuel economy. My wife drives a 2020 Toyota Rav4 XLE and by comparison the Rav4 is a small cramped vehicle which I think is overrated personally, and no chance I was getting a Rav4 Prime due to that fact. There are some misses by the Hyundai engineers in their design though so it's not perfect. No automatic seat and steering wheel heating feature which is a pretty common feature. Remote starting does not include warming up the heated seats. The heating and cooling systems for the cabin must have the internal combustion engine running which kind of makes it hard to save on gas in winter and summer months. I've been an owner of Chevy Volts for many years and now I realize how great a job the Chevy engineers did with designing that vehicle because I would go months without needing fuel but so far I'm lucking to get 2 weeks with the Santa Fe before needing gas. I know it's not fair to compare the two because both have their limitations and also have their strengths. Overall, the Santa Fe PHEV is a great vehicle that I know I will enjoy for many years but wish it was more electric reliant in its design.

Santa Fe Limited PHEV
My normal daily commute is a mixture of country roads and city driving, covering about 35 miles per day. Babying the accelerator the first day, I did all but about one mile in EV mode. More practically, the electric range is as advertised, and I expect to use about a gallon of fuel a week. I'm still familiarizing myself with the vehicle features, and thus far have only minor quibbles. The wireless charger accommodates most typical phone cases, but thicker ones won't fit. The phone gets much warmer on this wireless charger than any of my other (fast) wireless chargers, likely because it's essentially a pocket without good air flow around it. Initial highway mileage seems somewhat lower than I expected, but conditions weren't favorable with low temperatures and a brisk headwind throughout our 900+ mile journey. On the positive side, the cabin is quiet and the seats very comfortable. The user interface seems fairly intuitive, and the sound system is quite good. The assortment of driver aids functions as designed, with the speed-compensating cruise control a particularly handy feature driving through Chicago traffic. If you're looking for the flexibility of usable electric range combined with a gas engine for longer trips, a great warranty, and high-end touches in a modestly priced vehicle, the 2022 Santa Fe Limited PHEV is a solid choice. If your normal driving routine includes more than ~50 miles per day, you'll be better served with a standard hybrid as lugging around the larger battery of the PHEV reduces highway economy in comparison, and with a small fuel tank the true highway range is a bit limiting. Alternatives I considered were the Rav4 Prime and the Tucson PHEV. I had no luck locating a Rav4 Prime anywhere approaching MSRP, and the clock is ticking on its federal tax rebate. The Tucson PHEV trades a bit of size and weight for a bit better economy, and also includes a faster on-board charger, cutting charge time in half versus the Santa Fe when using a suitable level 2 charger. The Tucson interior styling strikes me as less satisfying, particularly using a plastic "sheet" with integral buttons for many functions versus the dedicated buttons in the Santa Fe, but this is an entirely subjective evaluation. I would give five stars but for the combination of middling highway economy and a small fuel tank. These won't affect my normal daily drive, but for that occasional road trip, having a real world highway range of ~300 miles is a bit disappointing.

Great overall car but some things to be aware of
If you live with a daily drive of less than 30 miles or have charging near by, this is a great vehicle. We bought one of the first ones in Oct 21 from a dealer in MD after we waited for several months for a regular hybrid close to home with success. After the tax credit there is pretty much no price difference between the PHEV and the HEV depending on the markup, if any. We now have just less than 5,000 miles in a 50/50 mix of Highway and city. Pros: Extremely roomy both in the cabin and storage- it feels significantly bigger than the Volvo XC60 it replaced. The features for the $ is excellent- the side view cameras when turning or lane changing are a game changer. The ride is a bit harsher than expected but the seats are great and make up for it. The EV range is as advertised- when running in full EV mode we often get more than the advertised 30 miles. Also the power is surprisingly good on the ev motor alone for the size of the vehicle. I wish it had 7 speed transmission instead of a six but it’s power curve is good. Things to know or I wish I had known (but likely still would have bought it): 1-The onboard AC to battery DC converter maxes out at 240v/16amps (3.7kwh) so it makes charge times longer - 4 hrs or more even on 240 so it can’t use the full charging capacity of a level 2 charger. I read in the European version they used a 7.2 kWh converter but went with the cheaper one for the us market to save costs. This really limits the effectiveness of public charging while running errands, eating etc because one hour of charge only gets you about 25% charge or about 8 miles. I bought and had installed a level 2 charger at home (it’s a 40 amp charger which is wasted on the Santa Fe but I guess I’m future proofed!) and 99% of the charging is done at home. 2- There is no onboard heat pump so in the cold it has to run the ICE engine to produce heat. The car compensates by driving the vehicle on the battery (in normal or ev mode) and just idling the ice motor, which drains the battery at a lower rate, but uses some gas, and is not zero emission. Once warm, the car shuts the ice motor and circulates the warm air and runs true EV, until it determines it needs more heat. Doing this we found the car gets about 50-60mpg, still better than the regular hybrid even,. The amount it runs the engine depends on the outside temp and your climate settings- I’ve found that if it is in the 40s and I’m wearing a coat and turn the seat heater on, I can turn the heat off and then it runs full ev. 3- The gas tank is only 12 gallons which is hidden in some promotional materials and buried in the specs. In the city it’s not a big deal, because even with the heater running we regularly go 700-800 miles between fillups. But it’s a huge problem on the Highway- because my one really big con is that the Highway mileage is way worse than advertised. Hyundai says in Hybrid mode on the Highway it should get 29 mpg, and we have not been able to duplicate that. Living in the central plains where Highway speed limits are 70-75,,and driving about 5 over, we have only gotten 22-25 mpg. With only a 12 gallon tank, that yields a real life range before the fuel light goes on of about 225 miles. So be warned when planning a road trip. I’d still buy the car as that Highway fuel mileage is about what any similar mid size suv gets, but the compromise of the battery weight really kills any fuel savings from the hybrid motor. I also suspect fitting only a six gear transmission means that in cruise at speed it’s pulling more rpms then it would need to with a seven speed. Overall, this car is all, about compromise and it fits our lifestyle well.

Still awesome
PHEVs are taking off, for good reason. Most of my travel is less than 30 miles a day, I plug in every night, so most of my miles are EV. Still have gas power there for longer trips. Great value, roomy, good turbo power for passing, SUV utility. silent and smooth. Excellent acceleration. I got 30 mpg on gas only on a recent trip. Voice controls and Android Auto work flawlessly. Real knobs! Controls are excellent, I think a close to ideal mix of buttons and screen. Has 4 wheel drive, excellent headlights, top safety pick. Been driving it almost 2 years, free Hyundai oil changes.

2022 Santa Fe PHEV Limited
This SUV is amazing! It is well made with an apparent focus on quality construction based on the tight tolerances. So far, I've driving my vehicle in 10" snow and -26F weather without a problem in either case. Unfortunately, the design of the SF PHEV requires that the gas engine is running for interior climate control but for myself that is not big deal because I'm ok to where a coat in my car or have the windows down in the summer. Big Kudos to the Hyundai engineers, the 2022 Santa Fe PHEV is a well designed and constructed vehicle.

Great interior, quiet ride, and EV only mode!
After 8 months driving the limited trim Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, it's still as great as the first day out of dealer lot. I mostly drive in city within the 30 mile range on EV only mode. EV only can use more pep but not complaining when gas is over $6/gal. No range anxiety when on a road trip but mpg suffers when electric is depleted. Love the quiet ride, seats comfortable with memory of seat and mirrors for second driver. Cooling ventilated driver and passenger seats (yes 3 levels of cold air through your seat) on 100 degree days and sunshades for rear passengers. Heated steering wheel and heated seats front and rear during winter. Driver-only A/C mode to save energy. Automatic almost everything..parking brakes when on incline, wipers, lights, wireless phone charger. Engine transition from electric to gas smoothly without the loud engine sound and car shudders. Spacious trunk for Costco and Home Depot runs. Navigation update was easy to install using USB. Easy latch for carseat. Amazing panoramic moon roof. The driver assistance system already helped prevent a near accident when I didn't see a car coming on the side and started to pull off from curbside when the car stopped itself! Adaptive cruise control worked well on highway. Love the 360 camera view when trying to parallel or back up the car. Harmon Kardon sound system is good. There's a regular 110v in the rear which allows work on laptop during long road trips. All the bells and whistles of a luxury car without the price tag plus unbeatable warranty and free maintenance. My last car was Acura and don't feel like I downgraded at all. Highly satisfied with this first Hyundai!!!

Best car ever owned by a 71 year old
Have 8500 miles and averaging 72 mpg overall. Travelled on trips 300 miles 4 times and several 100 mile trips. On electric only have averaged 33-34 miles with a range of 31 to 37. On hybrid only average about 33-34 mpg. Love the interior with beige leather. Plenty of passenger room and cargo space. Like the buttons on the dash as opposed to searching for features on the display. Very quiet and comfortable. Has all of the latest features. Safety features are wonderful. Last week, I felt confident driving in AWD (SNOW mode) on icy roads, while vehicles around me were sliding off the road and spinning wheels. I have found many free charging stations wherever I travel including British Colombia a couple of months ago, so I have saved about $825. since last February over the Subaru Outback it replaced. Most importantly of all I have reduced about 1000 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere using 200 gallons less compared to my previous car.
A Brilliant SUV
For Limited Model- great ride, excellent interior features. Brilliant EV mode. For the first 30 miles, it feels just like a Tesla. After 30 miles you have a peppy turbo charged engine running on gas. If you drive less than 30 miles you never come out of EV mode. Ride is superior to Model Y from Tesla. Smoother.

Do NOT buy this piece of junk!
0 star for this PHEV! This car is NOT safe to drive at all! Since I bought it in April, this vehicle had 2 MAJOR electrical system failures that stranded my family on the road. It spent 1/3 of the time in the shop and we're still waiting for the backordered part! After the car STOPPED in the middle of driving on city street(glad I pulled over right the way), a new battery with the electronics was replaced and was told I shouldn't have any problem going forward. Now comes the 2nd MAJOR failure when we had a family weekend trip 450 miles away from home: we stopped to switch hands and the car AUTO SWITCHED to Neutral and COULDN'T shift gears nor able to start/stop! Long story short, the car was towed to the nearest dealership(after we got stranded and worried for our life throughout the whole night inside the car) in the morning and still waiting there for over 3 weeks for a backordered part! I'm dealing with a lemon and working with Hyundai's case manager to address this BS. This is NOT a matured or safe designed car nor anything you want to buy unless you want to risk your family's life and anyone around while this vehicle is on the road. Stay away for this vehicle, speaking from personal experience! Super frustrated and still dealing with Hyundai on buyback and reimbursement for the associated costs for this disastrous incident.

Take too long to charge
Before my purchased, I did not know it would take 11 hours to fully charge a 31 miles range. I upgraded to 240v, but still take 3.5 hours. At this rate, it is impossible to charge at public station or cost more to charge because the car won't charge above 16Amp. We often travel over 60 miles per day. Regret buying it.

Nice car but crappy dealership network.
9000 miles on a new leased 2022 santa fe plug in. No complaints other that the push button tranny is a bit clunky. But the dealership network is terrible. I leased the car and was expecting reasonable service just like I got from Honda and Toyota. It's almost as if they don't care that I can trade the car in and get a RAV4 . . . multiple calls, few call backs, multiple dealers. Just to get an oil change and the instrument cluster electronic recall (also annoying but it's new). If you're leasing please consider this . . . "free oil changes" are only helpful if you can actually schedule them. It's taken me several months in Northern California.

Love the idea but unfortunately it doesn't work
I want to love this car and it gave me great gas mileage. When all I did was drive only around town it went 2,000 miles on 20 gallons of gas with just running errands and charging at home overnight. One long 2,000 mile trip gave 35 MPG in hybrid mode which I think is low compared to other Hybrids. One big issue is that once it gets cold outside they heat the cabin with engine water heat so the engine must run to heat the cabin. You'll be running on battery with the engine idling in the background to create heat. AC works on battery so you get better mileage in the summer than in the winter cause you drive around with an idling motor. Turn off the climate and only turn on heated seat and steering wheel to get better mileage, just silly!!! I love the interior and the basic car but once you get to the tech and electronics it all falls apart!! Very little of Bluelink actually works as its supposed to. If its associated with Bluelink, be doubtful. Hyundai tech will not take responsibility and will push you to Bluelink team who will just ask you to wait till the next SW update. I can only speak to my car which was an Santa Fe PHEV Limited and it would not keep a charge schedule so that means what Hyundai touts as Charge reservations doesnt work at all. It just charged whenever its plugged in, which until you have an EV and want to charge when energy costs are low, doesnt seem like a big deal but it is. Hyundai acknowledges that there is an issue with the software but they do not have a fix for it. Additionally, the Santa Fe is limited to 16 amp charging so even at 220v it takes almost 4 hours for 100% charge/31 miles. I've had repeated headlights going out, taillights going out, EV drive failure, Brake system failure, Sensor failures, check engine lights and system failure indicators, all within 6 months and less than 4,500 miles. After jumping through a lot of hoops and Hyundai declining multiple times, they have finally decided to buy my car back but now I'm stuck having to buy a new car again and my old-reliable truck that I traded in is gone. In hindsight, wish I had just kept my old truck and not had this ordeal.

We are believers- Go plug In!
The plug in is fantastic. We can go for weeks without needing gas. Most of our commutes are within the electric range. Additionally, the SUV is trimmed out beautifully.

As expected
Very comfortable and quiet ride. Plenty of power. Fits my needs for mostly short trips close to home without going full electric.
Great for short milage trips!
I have just over 8,000 miles in six months with my Santa Fe PHEV. I charge it at home only used the 110v charger that came with it three times. I average 34-38 true electric miles on a charge. Hybrid milage is in the 31-33 range. My overall is at 80.2 mpg . Very comfortable ride and very quiet on electric only mode. As I live in the desert I'm using the a/c quite offen. It hasn't effected the milage like the heater or cooler temperature do. No squeaks rattles or wind noise while driving. My son is 6' 3" and the back seat is perfect he says. He enjoys the adjustment of the back that leans more than any other vehicle we have owned. I wish it would charge as fast as the Tucson PHEV. Also that you could adjust the seat memory when you open the door. My F-350 has that feature. Like others have said shifting between R and D there is a lag but no big deal in my opinion. Overall is it perfect, no but the pluses outweigh the few negatives. I will say if you don't have or install a level 2 charger just buy a hybrid not a PHEV!

Love my 2023 Santa Fe PHEV limited
Bought new in September 2023. Traded in my 2018 Santa Fe limited that I really liked but wanted a hybrid. Intended to buy the hybrid non phev but couldn't find a white with black interior one so I drove a PHEV with the color combo I wanted. Very happy that I did. I love it. On top of that Minnesota had a $2500 rebate program that made it a better deal. I have 220v in my garage so I got a level 2 charger and that makes all the difference as I charge it daily during off peak hours. After 11,000 miles I'm averaging 51 mpg combined. I use it mostly for around town commuting so I don't use much fuel even in the cold Minnesota climate. Getting around 32 mpg hybrid only fuel economy. I love the looks (not a fan of the new Santa Fe design - too boxy lookingfor me). Super comfortable ride. .
