Great roadster, minimal frills

This is a summer use car for us (we live high in the Colorado snow country and prefer to garage the S2K in bad weather). We've had lots of great sports cars and sports sedans, but this little Honda is really a gem. Not too expensive, highly reliable, and fast. Most of our driving is on open mountain roads, hardly any stop & go in-town sort of driving. After three summers of use, we have never gotten less than 30 miles per gallon with this car, totally unlike the experience that some others have reported. And no we don't baby it...love that VTEC zone! The trunk is big enough for two carry-on bags, a small cooler and a couple of parkas. Longest trip was 10 days, to Banff/Lake Louise.

Just finished my second cross-the-usa trip, 7500 miles, averaged about 30 mpg; overall fuel average has been 27 mpg covering a total of 45K miles. I'm 69 years old and this is my daily driver. Performance and dependability and precision control would best describe my driving experience. Yes, it's a small cockpit with not a lot of wiggle room but the seats mold to your body and I can go all day without body fatigue. Try it before you buy it, it's not a car for everyone.

I'm not going to lie, there are a few things I could complain about with my S2K, wind noise, lack of features, rough ride...whatever...but the truth is, I don't care. This car isn't for people looking for luxury, it's for people who want performance. No, not that American I'VE-GOT-MORE-HP-THAN-YOU performance, but responsiveness, agility and above all, fun. This is a car for people who love driving their driving raw and unfiltered. If you want a luxury car, get a Porche, if you're looking for a cute convertible, get a Miata, if you want to be one with the road, to hug every curve and to huge smile every time you turn the key in the ignition, then the S2000 is the care you're looking for.

I owned a 2005 S200 for about a year before it was stolen. The car is awesome, but have now learned that the S2000 is a hot target for parts. My car was stolen and found a few days later completely stripped (wheels, headlights, taillights, seats, steering wheel, airbags, door panels, stereo, etc.). This was my second theft incident with the same car and have heard plenty of similar stories. I would absolutely recommend the car, but only if you can keep it safe in a garage.

The Honda S2000 has a nice design and a rather tight interior. The quality of the vehicle is outstanding and the engine, transmission and drive train are awesome. The latest models have a nice range of refined low RPM torque and driveability. The Honda is quiet and behaved on city streets until you decide to wind it up. Then the horses kick in with a rush of power that is best experienced descriptions don't do the experience justice. Handling is crisp, responsive and predictable. The S2000 goes around corners like it is on banked rails and it stops quickly with good pedal feedback and linear response. The transmission is a joy short throws silky gear shifts. Puts your mind in another place!

Drove the Z4, 350Z, Boxster S, Miata, and Sky redline. Went with S2000. Best car decision I've ever made. Loads of fun to drive. Very comfortable even on a 3-hr trip. Excellent build quality. Very usable trunk (w/spare). Top notch handling and accleration. I don't see any problems with lack of low end torque. You get two cars in one: Shift at <6k and it's a tame roadster, shift at 8k and it's a road hungry beast. Gets lots of attention (esp w/top down). I look for every opportunity to drive it. It's my daily driver and couldn't be happier.

no one has reviewed a Stewie here for 3 years..............I just logged my 100,000th mile driving an S2000. I started with a 2003 for the first 6 years, and now driving my 2008 for 5+ years. If you fit in this car, and know how to drive it, you have just found the most economical path to Nirvana. The car is profoundly reliable. I commute with it in an environment perfectly suited to its abilities, and average 26-27mpg.........If you know cars, you can tell that it's hand built to a very exacting standard............For the daily grind, the S is more fun than the NSX, and a closer match at the track than most would think. If one truly loves to drive on the raggedy edge, and has the feet to do it, the little roadster is as capable as 95% of all that one can buy, let alone afford.

Major cosmetic defect on my S2000!

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to warn you about my S2000 experience. This past weekend, I bought a brand new 2007 S2000 from a dealership in Loma Linda, CA. I took a night delivery, so I couldn't fully inspect the vehicle, particularly the interior. Over the next 2 days as I spent more time in the car, I noticed "bumps" on the dashboard. Think swells, each the size of the top of a pencil eraser. Some were larger, totaling about 10 of them. I pressed on these bumps & found voids underneath (as opposed to the usual firm sponge). I attempted a swap, but the dealership will not work with me, & the car had less than 300 miles on it. I am now stuck with a $33k car, waiting to be disassembled.

This car is a poor man's world class car. Fantastic handling, hard acceleration, and great build quality combine with bulletproof mechanicals to make what I feel to be the greatest package for the money. This car looks like it could cost twice what it does. I can park this car next to nearly anything else on the road and not feel in the slightest way inferior.

I finally got my 2007 S2000 last Tuesday, July 29. I had been test driving different S2000's at dealers, reading road tests and reviews, and researching them on the internet for about 6 months. I have been an auto enthusiast most of my life and have owned many performance cars and two corvettes. I will have to say that the Honda S2000 is the most fun car to drive that I have ever owned. It's not the fastest or the most powerful or the most comfortable but it does so many things so well. I can't drive this car without smiling. By the way I'm 66 years old. My son told me the S2000 wasn't practical. I replied that I was too old to be practical.

I am the proud owner of a 2007 Silverstone/Black S2000. What a gorgeous car. Aging exterior design? The lines are simple, fluid, aggressive and classic. Beautiful today. Beautiful 20 years from now. Dated interior? Your speed in big red numbers so you can't miss it. A bar tachometer shaped like the horsepower curve. AC and stereo controls at your fingertips. Comfy leather seats hold you tight in turns. The top goes up and down in a snap. Engine performance? How many cars put out more than 100 hp per liter, even in 2008? Drive it like a Miata, and you'll get Miata-like performance/mpg. Punch it and you have a rocket. A 6-speed four-wheeled sport bike, pure and simple.

From the first day I took a test drive I new I was hooked, that I had found a true gutsy sports car. I leased my first S2000 (Red) in 05 and this past July I swapped it for an 08 Laguna Blue beauty. The driving experience, the amount of car for the money, the continual grin on my face says it all. Honda created a winner with the 2000 and although it's production run is ending in this model year (09) this car will live on as one of the few remaining true sports cars on the road today, and one which I will own till I give up my license due to old age!

This is my second Honda S2000. I used to own a Silverstone model year 2004. I sold the Silverstone to a friend and bought a New Formula Red model year 2007. Both cars have been daily drivers. I live in Michigan and drive my car all year round...including snow. The S2000 is simply bullet proof. With snow/winter tires on it, it handles even the worst days in winter and I've never been stuck. With proper summer tires it's a champ at the racetrack. All this and I still average 24mpg mixed city/hwy, and about 29-30mpg on the highway. Honestly, this car is the most fun for the money, period.

I just traded in an '06 base Corvette on an S2000. I thought I might miss the 'Vette, but after almost 2,000 miles on the little drop-top I can honestly say that I'm thrilled with my decision. The Honda feels like it is glued to the road; handling is incredible, much better than the Corvette. The S2000 isn't as fast as the Chevy. But, it's quicker than my 350hp 2005 Daytona Charger RT was, and faster than a base Boxster. Push hard through a curve and the little Honda simply begs for more...and the F1 bark of the engine at 6k+ RPM is a hoot! Fit and finish are impeccable. There's no downside to the S2000 if one uses it for what it was designed, a true, absolutely uncompromising, sports car

I have owned too many cars in life, from Porsches to BMW , several Miatas and many more. This car does the best job at what it tries to be-an uncompromising almost perfect handling car. I have run it on road courses and it rotates better than anything I have driven. Balanced, better than average brakes and the vtec surge of power when needed. I'm sorry Honda didn't continue with production. I was excited about the prospects of a six cylinder. But I'll trade a pound of power for a pound of handling all day long. This car delivers it! And it has Honda reliability.

I've owned many cars over forty years: Sunbeam Alpine, Alfa Romeo Spyder, MGB and BMW 2002, back when. With a family, later, I was lucky with more practical, fun cars: VW GTI and BMW M3. Last year, I bought my S2000 in rich, pearlescent Rio Yellow. My wife was worried about the yellow. After she saw it, she said it was a perfect color for the shape and character of the car. This is the most eager, engaging car I've ever driven. It doesn't isolate you from the road or insulate you from the experience of covering ground. This is the most reliable open-top sports car made. Its instantaneous responses to driver input make it the best performance value available.

You must be of small stature. This is no vehicle for a person who is much taller than 6' and not very wide. The cockpit is small and somewhat cramped. The car has virtually no low end torque. Only when you hit around 5,500 RPM (VTEC engagement) does the vehicle scream. Great looking and extremely reliable, parts are Honda, therefore not as expensive as say my Audi. In the ten years that I have owned it, my only complaint (at first) was that the dealership would not change the oil until the idiot counter was < 15%. I understand why. The engine leaves the factory with special brake-in fluids added to the oil, and if changed before, the engine runs the chance of leaking. I waited until < 15% (~ 4,000 miles) and have never experienced any problems. As aforementioned, the car draws a crowd wherever she goes. This is a second car in my state of West Virginia. You cannot drive it in the snow, even the owner's manual tells you that. I drive an Audi Q3 Prestige most of the time, presently (winter) with studded snow tires. The S2000 I only drive on nice days. It is not a trailer queen, but she has never been in the rain. As the saying goes, "I love my Honda." It's been a year since I last wrote this review and my thoughts have not changed. The mold was broken when Honda stopped production of the S2K. As of today, no other roadster delivers such as much of a fun drive, exhilarating, for such a low price. I have the standard roadster and am pleased with it. The dash is still simplistic, as my Porche 914 was. Yes, it's loud and high revving, that's the fun of it. Road noise is terrible, but I do not use this as a daily driver. It is my FUN car. I bought this roadster new, still < 8k miles, and you couldn't give me enough to sell it. I recently read that a senior executive at Honda said that there was NO plan to bring back or redo the roadster. The reason: "There's no money in it." Thank you Honda! Update 4/4/21 No change in my review except that the older one gets, the more difficult to get in and out. But, I will own this car until I am six feet under.

Beware to all, the CR is only for the track. If you are thinking about it for a daily driver or even a weekend getaway car, get the regualar S2000. I drove it less then eight miles on a "standard" road, felt like I went 10 round with Mayweather giving me kidney shots. If you are going to use it for what it was made for (track), you'll have a blast.

My Honda S2000 is worth every dollar that I spent. The S2000 is a true roadster from the ground up. I like to feel the roadway that I am driving on, that is the purpose of owning a roadster. The amazing feature of the S2000 is the driving compartment it holds you in place in cornering and accelerating. I like the design of the controls they are all within the reach of my fingertips. The VTECH engine is a powerhouse coupled with the smoothest gearbox that I ever shifted. The S2000 is a fantastic performing vehicle. The S2000 is a Roadster in a class of its own. Honda needs to continue to manufacture the S2000 for the roadster enthusiasts. This car is the average person’s dream for a high per

Honda Hits A Home Run

A practical sports car? I've owned and driven true sports cars such as the MGB and Fiat X-19. As all true sports cars are supposed to be, they were cramped, noisy, with no room for luggage -- in short highly impractical -- but a blast to drive. Here is a true sports car in every sense with high-tech handling and more power than all but the most experienced sports car guy can handle. The S-2000 has changed little, but when you've approached perfection, why mess around. Honda pays attention to critics. Although HP numbers have evolved downward slightly, the mid-band torque is now just right. 50/50 balance, a bit light in the rear for traction, but great handling.

If you want a fun car, this is it. However, it is NOT an every day car. I have owned several sports cars, the last being a 350z. The S2000, is much more fun than the Z, has a better road feel and is easier to drive. However, the inside is tight and there is not much leg room. If this is your 3rd you will want to drive it often. However, if this is your primary car, you will wish it had more room.

This is MY 3rd Honda (and my wife drives an '05 Accord EX). Had an '00 Si, '06 Civic EX, and now the car of my dreams for 8 years, the '08 s2000. The power is intense! The handling is spot on, and the fit/finish is perfect Honda quality. I loved the high-rev engine of the Si, so am excited to hear the engine spin high. There's never a whine though, it's beautiful. I'm 6'2" and fit tightly. Any taller and it'd be too tight. There is very little truck space, but I haven't yet needed more space. The cabin provides small hidden storage areas: two small "glove boxes", a couple small net pockets around the cabin. I'll miss my variable timer wipers and rear speakers, but have gotten over it already.

I fell in love with a cousin's red Austin Healy when I was a teenager. What a rush! Nearly 40 years later I get that same rush with my red S2K. We lost our 2000 Accord to a rear end accident earlier this year. I love Honda and felt it would be only right to replace the old Accord with another Honda. A wild hair steered me to the S2000.It's been only a month or so but I can't get enough of it. We went on a near 5 hour mountain ride this weekend through some winding roads in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. My "automatic transmission" legs were worn out but the thrill was a true "heart pumper". It's my version of a safe Harley (all the fun and none of the risk). Why did I wait so long???

This vehicle will not run with a Corvette so do not even try. However, with that being said there is no other like it! The S2K is in a class all by itself when handling and looks are considered. The S2K is typical Honda quality with a fairly good amount of Honda's racing heritage mixed in. The 2.2L V-Tec doesn't produce a lot of low end torque but above 6K on the tachometer you better hold on. I recently had the chance to trade for a 2007 Boxster S and I just could not bring myself to do it. I love this car!

Had this car for 2 months loved it, it's a true roadster convertible. A real Honda enthusiast's car. I miss it. See, some thugs ripped my top and stole the seats out of my car. Took 3 weeks to order them from Japan (they come in pieces) and couldn't drive it for 3 weeks! Worst of all it happened in front of my house. So I had to get rid of it. I regret it. But couldn't deal with the stress of getting up every day and possibly dealing with this happen again. If you get one. Please get seat locks, and a really good factory alarm, it will save you a huge head ache like I wish I had avoided.

Worth every penny! It's probably not for everyone as the ride is a bit on the harsh side. Actually harsher than my Miata (but that's probably due to the Honda feeling stiffer overall). However, the payoff comes in the first corner you take! The engine is amazing. The sound is unbelievable. The best gearbox I've ever driven. All in all I'm very happy with it, but might've liked a variable suspension setup to soften the ride a bit in town. (I'm getting old 8)

Truly a driver's car - pure and precise

I find myself driving this car far more than I need to, simply because it's such a blast to drive! The razor-sharp reflexes, the confident, solid shift action, the punch of VTEC when you crack past 6 grand (not to mention the banshee scream that comes with that)- need I say more? There is a surprising amount of leg room (more than my Accord), and the well-bolstered seats really keep you planted during spirited driving. While the storage space leaves a bit to desire, after a couple weeks I didn't find it to be an issue anymore.

Note: this is a summer car, about 4k miles/yr. I bought it with 18k on it and now have 24k. There are a few problems with this car - you're constantly smiling and you find yourself giving out a WHOOP while you're driving. This car is simply a motorcycle with doors. It can be driven hard by the average guy (that's me) without feeling dangerous, and can be push to the limit by the pro. You will love signs that say "winding road ahead" as it simply carves through them like an Olympic slalom skier. You'll take two-lane blacktops rather than highways, so you'll get 23 MPG (If you get 30 MPG, you're not having enough fun). And the top is down all the time. Maintenance has been $100/yr. + tires.

I've owned "lil red" for 3 months. This is the first sports/performance car I've owned so I can offer no comparisons, but can say I have no disappointments. Very impressed with the build quality and I see no flaws in performance. This car is equally at home cruising downtown or screaming through the hills, and it never gets finicky, just purrs along ready for anything. Hitting vtec is nice, esp if you have some room to play. 8k rpm = 70 mph in 3rd, and you still have 3 more gears! Steering is very linear, suspension is firm but not punishing. This car makes no mistakes but will certainly point out yours :) if you like sports cars you'll probably love it.

This is the second S2000 I've owned. The first one was the 2001 version. This car is amazing. The power curve is smooth and the handling is even better. The looks of the exterior is classic. Since I've owned it, I've added full race suspension to it and upgraded the wheels to forged 18x7.5 front and 18x9 in the rears. The car was also lowered about 2 inches all around. The car handles so much more better although comfort was slightly compromised, the benefits greatly outweighed the feeling of having just a "normal" ride, not that the factory suspension wasn't stiff enough. I'm an auto enthusiast and have owned more powerful cars in the past but this car the least say is the most fun of all!

Major Oversteer Problem

I have lusted over the Honda S2000 ever since it arrived on the scene. I have had a '91 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce and a '96 Mazda Miata. I love my new convertible except on the freeway. Driving above 60 mph scares me and I feel like I'm going to lose control of the vehicle around freeway bends. There is major fish-tailing involved and I oftentimes struggle to regain control of the vehicle if I am driving anywhere over 60 mph. In Texas, driving less than 70 mph on the freeway is a death- sentence.

I owned a 2003 and the 2007 has a little more giddy-up and better audio. My opinion hasen't changed since 2003. You won't find a better "fun car" at under $35G. This car will handle itself rather well against any car I've come across except for the Corvette. However, in a series of S turns the Vet couldn't keep up. It's insane how the S2000 handles all styles of cornering. I know the tires have a lot to do with it but still.

The S2000 is a driver’s car. The steering is quick and precise. It turns on a dime and handles curves like it’s on rails. The brakes are superb and it has excellent power delivery even below the VTEC range. For day-to-day driving the mileage is excellent, however, it does require premium gas. If you use the VTEC mode a lot, expect the mpg to drop significantly. The overall driving experience is exhilarating, particularly if you live in an area where there are lot of curvy roads, preferably mountain roads. It's best stress relief known. It's even fun to drive back and forth to work. In summary, this is a uncompromising sports car that will delight anyone who loves driving!

This is an absolutely fun car to drive. I use it as my daily driver and it is a blast. I have taken it on several trips to the coast and to Vegas and while there may not be a whole lot of extra room in the cabin, the seats are very comfortable and make it easy to drive long distances. That's the upside to this car. Now for the downside. I bought this car used in 2008 with 14K miles on it. I had 0 problems with it until this past year when at 55K miles the AC compressor decided to go out. $1,500 for that fix, then the clutch master cylinder went out for another $200. I hope that's the last fix for a while.

This is the best bang for the buck for a true sports car. When I run it in the mountains it wants to go harder than I am willing to take it and I run it pretty hard. The Corvette I drove had more power but inferior fit and finish compared to the S2000...and a much higher price tag. This is a fine true sports car in every way.

The S2000 is not for everyone. It can be noisy and it's small, but it handles great and is a lot of fun to drive. The resale value is above any car in it's class and undervalued by everyone including edmonds. Kelly blue book was the closest to suggesting the correct value.

I found a Laguna blue 2007, 73k miles listed on 'True Car' for $18,400 by Alpha Motorsports in Manassas Virginia, just outside DC. Carfax.... clean title, 2 owners, 2 right front accidents, no air bag deployment. K&N intake and HKS exhaust system, rear factory spoiler. This was the first time I flew somewhere to look at a car, not knowing the seller or the car, at a dealership. Beautiful car, clean, paint and leather seats looked almost prefect, new top, good tires. Took the car for a test drive, then put it up in the air to check the collision repair for any frame damage, no damage found...very clean undercarriage, no rust, wheel bearings all felt good, no engine or transmission leaks, axle boots good. The only problem I found was the car was going to need new brake rotors/pads front and rear in the next 2000 miles. They brought the price down to $18,000. So I bought the car and drove it back to Florida, non-stop, except for gas,18 hour drive, 912 miles. I did some upgrades....... slotted and drilled rotors, aluminum radiator, oil cooler, timing chain tensioner, strut bar, Eibach springs, factory lip spoiler, and carbon fiber wrap on some interior trim....Easy to work on, parts are reasonably priced, and it's reliable .....a solid well balanced car, probably the best all around car I've ever owned, great brakes, handles great, not the fastest car I've owned, but it has a nice balance of power and handling. It's definitely a car that was designed by someone that loved to drive and feel the road. Update..... It's 6 years and another 14k miles,, since the purchase of the S2000, and I feel even better about the car. Super reliable, just one minor fix. The radiator temperature sensor died. With an OBD-2 code scanner it was an easy problem to diagnose and fix. The value for the S2000 keeps going up....So if you're thinking of buying one, don't wait too long! Thank you Shigeru Uehara for designing such a great affordable sports car!

If you want a sports car to have fun with, to enjoy those sunny days, to take thos weekend cruises or, to just play...this is what you need. First, it is a Beautiful Little Car. Even as it is now 12 years old, I get lots of people asking me what it is and are admiring it. I must mention that my car is a “GARAGE QUEEN” - Kept covered in the garage and, NOT a daily driver!!! The Original Paint Honda applied is still like new with regular cleaning and maintenance. This car is reliable, Fun, Fun, Fun and a joy to own. This is a highly desirable car for Jim-Cana racing. It has held its value better than almost any car out there!! Most importantly, it is a Sports Car with Honda Reliability!!!

I purchased my 2007 Silverstone S2000 new back in 2007. I only drive it when the Sun is shining and no rain in site. Every time I buckle up and hit the Start button the car comes alive and wants to play. This car makes you feel like you are part of the car. The only modification that I made to my car was installing a K&B cold air intake, which adds an additional 10HP - 15 HP. What a difference when the engine hits VTEC. The sound and the rush gets you pumping this addon should be on all S2000's. I am 70 years old now and I get these feelings evetime I hit that Start button. If you like driving you will love this car.

Honda S2K crazy

I've owned two sports cars, a 1980 Corvette and the 2007 Honda S2K. The Honda gets my vote. I purchased the Berlina Black. The only color for a fast, stealthy sportster. I was a bit disappointed about 20 somethings not gasping at this beauty, but I guess they gasp at Prius' instead. Had to wait for mileage to reach 1000, before really turning on the V- Tec above 6000. Wow, this engine is incredible. Nothing like winding 8000 in third gear. Even the fellows in F- 150's take notice. Best features: external beauty, beautiful wheels, "clean" interior, exceptional assembly. Best attributes: loud, throaty roar of the engine; stiff, hard, solid ride; this is a car for drivers.
