Used 2021 Honda Ridgeline Consumer Reviews
Audio system in Sport edition is crap
Having an issue with my brand new 2021 ridgeline. Audio when I'm hooked up with android auto OR with bluetooth does this weird volume adjustment thing when standing still. I've reset everything done all the troubleshooting, even took it to dealer who said oh it's normal to have a crap sounding stereo in your new $38k truck... Oddly enough my brother's new 2021 crv with the same basic stereo does NOT do this. Nor does my wife's rav4 2020 when we use android auto,,,, dealers suggestion "maybe you should upgrade to the premium stereo"

Quiet and Comfortable
When we were looking for a mid-sized truck, we went and drove all of the usual suspects. A Toyota Tacoma, a Ford Ranger, a Nissan....whatever. They were noisy and seemed underpowered. Small-ish in the cabs and the driving experience was decidedly truck-like. When we couldn't find a Ford Maverick to test drive, a friend told us we should try a Honda Ridgeline. We were really glad we did. First off, I really like the look of the HPD Black edition. The bed is easy to use, and I never thought I would like the in-bed trunk and side swinging tailgate as much as I do. The interior is really comfortable, and the drive is settled and quiet. The handling is solid and we have experienced 29 mpg on the highway (eco-mode, no towing) on long trips. Overall, we are super pleased with the purchase. It hauls, tows and travels everything we need it for - which is light duty truck use. We are complimented by friends on how nice it looks and looked down upon by the giant F-250 drivers (NART anyone?). What do I NOT like? The driver assist controls can be obnoxious. I have turned off the lane-keeping. The auto high beams are constantly hunting hi-lo beams. The adaptive cruise control turns itself off at 25mph which keeps you on your toes in traffic. But for all of these things, I love to drive it, it hauls what we need it for, it gets decent MPG, and I think it looks really good.

Excellent all-rounder
Have been using 2021 Ridgeline RTL-E for more than a year - about 6K miles driven. Love the new vehicle design and its on road manners. The ride is super smooth even compared to heavy weights like F-150. Interior space in the front is very good. The fact that bed is almost flat for rear seats gives you room to walk in the back if seats raised. This is a very practical approach for storing real world items like 4+ suitcases if you have to absolutely rainproof them or a truck load of costco items or whatever. The truck bed is accessible for me with a height of 5'9". But a bit difficult towards center unless I climb on tires. The fact that bed is almost flat (most other trucks have wheel wells raised significantly above the bed) has significant real world advantage when you are dealing with items like lawn mower or tools or various machinery. Has enough tie down points in the bed, but their fixed orientation can sometimes be challenging depending on what I am trying to tie down. Though a great concept, I am finding less and less practical use with the under bed storage area since it is very difficult to access if you have heavy items on top. And most of the times, it is an after thought at least for me to access items from that area (like rachets / blankets etc) or put items there. But I will take that convenience any day vs not having it at all. I am not at all impressed with Econ mode or auto idle feature for fuel savings. It is affecting my experience as a sporty driver. But if you don't mind a 1+ sec delay with starting from complete stop, you should gain on mileage with those features. For me, with econ turned off and additional exterior accessories fitted (side rails and roof rails) and driving slightly on the sportier side, I am getting about 18.5 - 19.5 avg for mostly short distance driving. I am sure that number would cross 20 mpg for long distance driving / highway driving even with Econ turned off and sporty driving. I think it is a very good mileage number. I would definitely recommend Black Edition if you can afford since it adds elegance to inside plus more usb ports and 400W power from truck bed. All of those have become standard convenience features nowadays. I also upgraded my speaker system /subwoofer / dsp amp combo. The best part is that all of this fit behind the back seat, so interior looks stealth. I also attached a surface pro as my primary screen, so not stuck with the archaic OEM screen or its functions. My interior setup is -> Surface pro as my central unit powered directly from vehicle battery (direct connection). Audio out through a DAC into the DSP hidden behind back seat. From DSP to speaker and subwoofer as usual. Rear speakers will play system sounds and radio while aftermarket speakers in the front will play PC audio out. Phone connected to surface pro through a USB hub and provides internet /gps connectivity. USB hub provides a lot more USB ports if I need it. This setup gives a Tesla kind of feel to my infotainment, but super practical since I can take my office calls / teams or zoom meeting while driving. With this setup, I feel like I have my perfect driving vehicle with road comfort, tech features, great audio sound, plentiful storage and seating capacity and towing ability. Have to confess that I have soundproofed all doors and the roof to keep inside noise minimal even in heavy highway traffic and during rain. While these are not needed in city driving, they make a meaningful difference for long distance driving. My future plans include changing tires and wheels to add a bit more style :D

Amazing truck for great adventures
Owned my Sport for a year now with almost 20,000 miles. No problems or mechanical issues. A great road trip vehicle with amazing storage options for all my gear. I love the in-bed trunk, which is big enough to fit all my camping stuff while leaving plenty of room in the cab. Back seats fold up so my dog can stretch out on the floor. The bed is big enough for my kayaks and bikes, and I like the dual action tailgate. The AWD gives me peace of mind when I’m driving through bad weather. Other trucks claim to be more rugged, but what I really need is a truck that fits all my adventure gear and is small enough to be able to comfortably drive around a city; Honda delivers. My only complaint is with the infotainment center. The screen is a decent size but the system lacks some of the tech that other new cars have (like the Santa Cruz). Apple car play can be a little glitchy, but my wife’s android works fine for some reason. The 3.5l V6 is adequate, but may feel a little sluggish. I’ll take the reliability of the Honda engine over a more speedy turbo though. If I was going to do it again I’d get the higher trim level with navigation and sun roof. I haven’t had any problems with leaking or water under the carpeting like some people have, and I’ve driven through some heavy rain storms.

Ridgeline is the bomb!
After driving a Jeep Wrangler for a bunch of years, I decided to get back into a pick-up for my daily driver and occasional household use. Through the years I've driven the F150, Silverado 1500, and Toyota Tacoma. The Ridgeline is by far the best yet. Such a smooth ride and handles like a dream. Plus all of the features I could want and more. Get one, you won't regret it!
