We bought our 2012 Odyssey, which was 3yrs old with 30k miles, in Spring 2015. That means as of this writing, we've had it for 4.5 years and put on about 50k miles. I came here to tell everyone reading this and anyone researching Odysseys that it's not only an amazing family minivan, but quite possibly the best vehicle we've ever owned - and that's coming from a crazy car guy who can't keep a car longer than 3 years. What we've owned include: Accord, Camry, WRX, Legacy, Tribeca, Prius, TSX and TLX. Our Odyssey has stood the test of time, already outlasting 3 of those other vehicles. We have no reason to even shop for another family vehicle anytime soon. What's great: -Our Odyssey Touring is built like a premium vehicle. It might as well have an Acura badge. It has been 100% reliable (only one heater seat TSB fix), is powerful, smooth, comfortable and quiet, and has leather and almost every gadget and gizmo imaginable. -Power sliding doors made it easy for us to load our kids into the van as babies in travel system carriers, then allowed them to climb in as toddlers so we could buckle them, and now our kids climb in and buckle themselves. Plus we never had to worry about smashing doors into cars or garage walls. -Power tailgate has been used thousands, maybe tens of thousands of times, allowing us to load groceries, furniture, sports equipment, you name it. The back row typically stays up leaving the deep well available for us to fill. -It has enough space to haul family, friends, luggage, equipment, furniture... almost anything in your home... sometimes all at the same time. -It towed our popup camper for years like it wasn't even behind us and now tows our small travel trailer like a champ. What's not great: -VCM. I forget our Odyssey had VCM because I disabled it long ago with VCMuzzler. This invaluable device stopped all the goofy engine vibrations and instilled confidence in our van not having oil seepage, plug fouling and misfire issues. You should be aware of the engine misfire lawsuit if shopping for a Honda years 2008 through 2016 or so. -Lack of AWD. Honestly, this is the only thing preventing this minivan from being the world's most perfect vehicle, in my opinion. But I'll still take it with FWD. It has been and continues to be a remarkably awesome minivan to us, whether knocking around town or driving us across the country to a vacation.

This is the first Honda we have owned, and I am still positive over 200,000 miles. I like the feel of the van, build quality, great use of space, and general quality. We treat the van very gently, but we have still had a fair number of issues: 1. The entertainment system is proprietary, and now that the CD player which is tied into the whole entertainment system has failed, my only repair choice is to go back to the dealer. 2. The V-6 engine which I thought would be bullet proof continue to have issues with oil burn. We have babied this van and done all maintenance, but it is still burning a quart of oil every 2,000 to 3,000 miles. Update: I had the same engine missfire issue again, and Honda did a more thorough fix. Over the last 80,000 miles, oil usage went down to the point I haven't had to add any oil between oil changes. If this holds until the next update, I will increase my rating. 3. At 120,000 miles the timing belt broke. I had replaced the belt myself and used a non-OEM belt, so that could be the cause, but it was still surprising that it happened. We were able to replace a couple valves and the van is running again like it should. All OEM parts this time. 4. At about 155,000 miles, the passenger window mechanism broke. I was about to take everything apart and get the window up. Although the van is getting older, we do not use the windows that much, so this shouldn't have happened. 5. The passenger side sliding door failed open. The door would not even shut manually. It seems like something in the motor failed and will not let the door move. 6. The van has been rough on tires. The alignment checked out ok, but the rear spring don't hold up as well. This could partially be my fault as the van has been overloaded several times, but the springs are very difficult to find. I ended up adding air bags to the rear, and I will update next time if this helps tire wear. At 185,000 miles got the first emission system trouble light. Hopefully just an O2 sensor. Stay tuned. 200,000 Took the van to Honda Dealer. The issue with the engine was a control module for the cylinder deactivation. Also had the dealer replace the motor assembly for the passenger sliding door. At 13 years, I am still satisfied with the van, and parts are plentiful which makes it a good choice for a vehicle that needs to be kept a long time. Doing the minor repairs and maintenance myself and including insurance, fuel, and maintenance, the average cost of the van is $415/month and $0.48/mile (assuming current fuel prices)

I just brought it last week, by my experience, the worst part of this vehicle is its Navigation System, I bet, nobody can find the AT&T sore in it, I tried for 2 days to search just to check if it works. They charge 2000+ for Navigation system whereas for 300 we can get the best from Garmin or Megellan so never buy with a navigation. If i place the child seat in the 2nd row middle seat the enterance to the 3rd row is blocked because the bucket seat doesnt fold then. No place to put children toys etc.

In the last year I have been in the shop 7 times for failed mechanics. The spark plugs have been replaced 3 times due to failure (this is a known Odyssey issue), leaving me stranded. Both sliding doors have failed mechanically. The brakes stopped engaging a few months ago. An engine mount broke. And the transmission has had problem after problem, transmission was flushed, had a software update, replaced the torque converter and still there is a loud vibration from the engine.....the dealership will not acknowledge an issue but there is a class action lawsuit out there (google "Honda transmission vibration problems"). I will never buy a Honda ever again after owning this vehicle.

I bought this van a year and half ago. It was the best purchase I have ever made. I haul around 3 large dogs, 3 children from 5-13 and there is still room for the husband and our luggage.. I put 25k miles on the van in less than 2 years. I only ever had in the shop for routine oil changes and tire rotation. I bought this van for its convenience, comfort and above all safety. The van is loaded with safety features. Sadly, just this week I was t-boned from the drivers rear by a driver speeding off an exit ramp. The van performed exactly the way I had hoped it would should an accident occur. The van is totaled and I am walking with only minor injuries. If you want safe, get Honda!
