Never fail to impress

I have driven Fusion's before and they never fail to impress me. I would choose this vehicle over several in the model comparision. Althought I find the new seat design an issue. I just could not get comfortable in the car for the first several miles. Luckily this was not a road trip vehicle for me.

Bought from a Chrysler dealer in 2016 with 64k miles on the odometer. Recently clicked past the 100k mark (end of 2021). The only thing that has become dodgy is the rear camera, which I don't see the point of anyway -- sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Still looks and feels like a new car. Replaced tires and battery at some point. The new tires have better traction and a smoother ride. Replaced the tranny fluid and spark plugs recently. The car handles well, although it's tuned to understeer near its limits like most appliance cars, despite the lightness of the front end made possible by the little 2l engine. The handling nannies don't interfere with wild driving; they only kick in when something ridiculous is being asked of the car. Steering feedback is light, but present -- it's easy to feel impending traction loss. It's super comfortable, no matter how long you may be stuck behind the wheel. Acceleration is brisk. Gas mileage is mediocre at around 22 mpg with maybe 30% highway driving, but hey, 240 hp, so what did I expect? A match to the EPA claims? Not gonna happen on this car. I do wish I could replace the shift table in the tranny firmware, though, to make the shifts occur at lower rpm -- this would probably increase the mpg, because boost or no boost, high rpm is the enemy of good fuel economy. At moderate acceleration, it shifts kind of hard from 2nd to 3rd, a well known issue, and Ford claims there is no firmware update to fix it, so if you're worried about damage, you can release the gas pedal for a half second when the shift is about to happen. I guess whoever wrote the firmware forgot to cut fuel and add delay during that particular shift, and there's no one maintaining the code. Anyway, I love the car and expect it to stay healthy for another 100k miles. Update: Early 2025, 127k miles. Added a tow hitch at some point. Plenty of power and braking for towing. One coil-pack failed a couple of years ago, so I changed all four, which is an easy and inexpensive DIY operation. (Diagnosis requires an OBD II code reader, which is cheap and easy to use, and the OBD connector is easy to access.) No change in the car's health or drivability. No squeaks or rattles. No rust. No decrease in power or fuel economy. Not burning oil. Also has had none of the supposedly common engine problems. Seems destined to be a nice car until at least 200k miles, namely another ten years.

65000 miles-my steering wheel has disintegrated, chunks fell out of it,it is worn as though someone took sandpaper to it.One shock mount snapped, problem with the front axel, protective underlayment broke away into pieces making aloud banging sound when driving, the entire thing had to be ripped off to prevent the noise, the drivers seat is faded and worn.I'm going back to Japanese for my next car.

I have had this Fusion back to the dealer 5 times for transmission problems. It sometimes slams into gear, stutters between gears, revs high and fails to upshift, seems like it gets confused between gears and can’t decide what gear it wants to be in. Each time the dealer says they can find nothing wrong. Give me a break. I wrote to Ford and they sent a factory technician to the dealer to check the car. Of course they said nothing is wrong. Now I am stuck with this car. I can’t sell it, since whoever buys it is going to definitely have the same problem. Never again will I buy a Ford. Update: I dread having to drive this car every day. The transmission makes it feel like you are in a bumper car. It jerks into and out of gears constantly. Gas mileage is fair at best. The most I get if I drive very conservatively is about 27mpg. Acceleration is horrible. It feels like lawn mower engine pulling a tank. Also, the Bluetooth connection only works sporadically. I hope the car blows up or gets stollen.

2.5L I-4 91,000 Miles, still loving my ride

Wife did not like seats in the '14 Focus SE, so we bought the basic Fusion S. Very quiet, smooth ride, good gas mileage. Getting 32.1 MPG overall. Did get 40.2 MPG in the first year a couple times, not since. Highway MPG is 34-35 summer, 31-33 winter. Like the roominess and comfort very much, a huge step up from my 2006 Focus ZX4-SES, 2.0L automatic. And, the fuel economy is about 3-5 MPG better! Have had a few hard shifts, and the battery had to be replaced early on (under warranty). SYNC system a bit quirky, have had to disconnect battery to reset it at least three times. Previously was a GM man, till Obama Motors took them out of the running. Ford sure has made a great car here (same car as Europe's "Mondeo"). Over 6 years so far, 91k miles, still very happy. Running on Mobil 1 full synthetic since first oil change. Never need to add oil between changes, and oil stays full level. Rear brakes shot (fully worn pads, corroded rotors) at 43,000 miles. Pretty disappointing! Rear brakes should have lasted at least 70K with my type of driving. Front brakes are still original and wearing normally. I do my own work, so I the brake work was cheap (Rock Auto). No issues since then.
